emo shit or actually quite good?
so i've not actually listened to them.
but then enough people on here think its good, so maybe i should?
but then lots of people on here thought the black parade single was innovative and experimental, so its moodswings and roundabouts init?
Their first album has some awful lyrics, but they seem to getting better with age.
it doesn't have as distinctive a sound as Deja Entendu, although it has grown on me. Having said that, the lyrics are absolutely shocking, especially considering some of the wit on their last album, and I think if it weren't for Jesse Lacey's voice, it would be difficult not to dismiss them as just another emo band.
actually very, very good. I love it, and don't really like very much emo at all.
In fact I don't think it's THAT emo.
Especially on the new album, they're way more subtle. The songs don't just rely on obvious hooks and big choruses (although there are some present) and really grow with repeated listens. I wouldn't call them an emo band at all in fact, more just a rock band. And Sowing Season is pretty much my favourite song of the year.
why they still get the emo tag. Ok their first album was emo in the way The Get Up Kids etc are emo. But not in the MCR/Panic at the Disco sense of the term that people use it for nowadays.
Deja and Devil are just two great rock records. The new is is more of a grower though.
with the 'lazy' comment, I actually never believed up until I saw this thread that people actually lumped them with MCR et al. To my mind they've always been a really well respected, innovative band, just like any other band. In fact, they're one of the most credible bands I can think of mainly because of the way their albums chart their progression from straight up punk-rock to some brilliant 'alternative' music from Deja and The Devil And God...
One of my favourite bands of all time, basically.
one of my albums of the year. Top 3, definitely. There's not a bad tune on it, and the best tunes, like Millstone, Jesus Christ, Degausser and Archer's are amazing alt-rock tracks.
It's not emo, either.
listened to it all day and its quite impressive. i will continue to listen, might even work its way into my top 20 of the year. i really like the first track and choir thing on degausser.
New album is awesome, not a bad track on it, and not like anyone else they're lumped in with, either.
Or PM and I'll email you stuff. My album of the year, for sure..
And to be totally honest, it's not emo. It has a lot more in common with Modest Mouse than it does with Fall Out Boy. In fact it has fuck all in common with FOB.
Go download Jesus Christ, incredible song!
They dropped the "Christ" off that song for the album.
I also instantly recognised the Modest Mouse (Degausser) and Bright Eyes (Luca, Jesus) influences. Fucking brilliant band, brilliant live, complete tear-aways, to be frank.
If people avoid them cause of their tag it's them who's missing out
but his singing has improved a great deal for The Devil and God...
I know it's purely subjective, but I'd say 'Jesus' is far more influenced by Modest Mouse, repetitive riff, little guitar licks, the the cracked, off kilter vocal. It sounds exactly like Good News... era MM. Degausser doesn't sound anything like them though!
And 'Luca' IS Zombie Eaters by Faith No More. Seriously, play the opening bars one after the other. Shocking. Doesn't stop it being a good song, mind!
i don't like brand new alot, but i think they're the most innovative and creative 'emo', band out there right now.
some very good lyrics actually.
and not emo at all. I don't know why it still seems to surprise people that they're an awesome band.
WHERE'S THE REVIEW
sorry. my fault.
then change the name at the end.
It's really good though.
world right now.
Its a load of bollocks....Ive had to turn it off! I can't cope with the whining
