I went Christmas shopping this weekend and started with my favorite person. Me! With Tower Records closing and 2nd Spin offering such fantastic deals I ended up buying shit I already have...which at the time seemed logical (but now I've buyers remorse and will be returning Diamond Dogs (Ryko) and Raw Power - bought it just it's the re-mixed version, but it sounds pretty much like the original).
Prisoners of Love - Yo La Tengo ($15.99) This 3 disc set of greatest hits and rarities/outtakes is really fantastic. Perfect for the fan such as myself who's not gonna buy their whole catalog but really likes this band. 8.5/10
Diamond Dogs - David Bowie ($9.99) Under rated, this album sees Dave break away from Ziggy by playing most of the parts. Sweet Thing/Candidate is amongst his best vocal performances. 9.0/10
This Is Hardcore - Pulp ($7.99) Pulp albums range from sorta tedious to outstanding. This one falls into the latter category. 8.5/10
Feels - Animal Collective ($7.99/free) Eclectic bands such as Architecture in Helsinki or Fiery Furnances often disappoint me. This album doesn't. 7.5/10.
Mcluskyism Limited Ed. - Mclusky ($7.99) This 2 or 3 disc set, which I've not yet listened to, was such a bargain it feels like I practically stole the darn thing!
Holy Bible - Manic Street Preachers ($7.99) I've been looking for this sucka for a long time...and it was worth the wait. Fan-freakin-tastic! 9.0/10.
Complete B-sides - Pixies. ($7.99) Any band would be thrilled to have A-sides which sounded this good. 8.5/10.
Raw Power - Iggy and the Stooges ($6.99/free) A classic. 9.5/10.
Television - Television. Haven't listened to it yet though I'm guessing it's not gonna be nearly as good as Marquee Moon.
Be Your Own Pet - BYOP.($4.99) Heard very good things about this Southern punk band, but it's still in its shrink wrap. This six discs I've got in my car changer from the above purchases are so damn good it may be a few days before I get to this one to be honest.
Soulvaki - Slowdive. ($2.99) I already have this but for some reason I think I lent it out because I've not seen it and anyway it was only 3 bucks. 8.5/10
Darklands - Jesus & Mary Chain ($6.99) Though Psychocandy gets all the attention this one is actually better. Maybe even better than Automatic. 8.5/10
