Hugely and obscenely overrated. Woefully lacking in choruses. The single most baffling success story of 2006.
Of corse hes not the best in his feild and the album isnt that great but he was pretty good when I saw him support the Flaming Lips
very dull and samey, not seen him live yet though
I've heard of him was when I saw him supporting the Flaming Lips last month. He was such a likeable and sincere character that I wanted his music to be great. But it really wasn't. This may have had something to do with Deerhoof laying waste to my preconceptions about half an hour before but still - it all seemed a bit safe and boring to me. I was at least hoping for something with a bit of character but I didn't even really get that.
because Daytime radio 1 has discovered "emo" and now its cool.
hes just a bit MOR really.
all said. Extremely over-rated..

is vomit inducing.
When the fuck did a laptop become an instrument in the context of "he plays the guitar and a laptop" ?
around Spring this year.
Then I saw him at Leeds Festival, and he spoiled his set by telling me not to vote BNP.
It wasn't just 'Don't vote BNP.' It was a big five minute speech jobby... 'This country is succumbing to a fucking evil bunch of people.'
I've never been a fan of politics being so strongly featured in music, but I admit I was pretty charmed by a few of his tunes that day.
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. is oftened shortened to simply "Get Cape.","Cappa","Fly Dude", "GC.WC.F", or "Cape."
is incomprehensible. as far as i can tell he's just incredibly average emo
..i'm not the only one! I heard of him 2 or 3 years ago, when there was a bit of punktastic buzz around him. checked out his tunes and found they left me completely cold. Saw him live and at a gig I happened to be at and thought 'Nah, him plus laptop is just not substantial enough'. So I was rather bewildered when I heard he got signed to Warner, and now he's actually sold quite a few records! not only this, a whole host of music journos appear to be creaming themselves over him. Madness.
It seems to be proof that if something is sufficiently cleverly marketed, it will manage to shift a certain number of units. quite depressing really.
At the begining of the year everyone here loved him and said how awesome he was. Now no one does and thinks hes bland. Of corse there are exceptions but do you think the majority are just bandwagoning
so you have a specific cross-section of the DiS people on here.
Midday on a weekday it would probably get a lot of positive replies. Still will today I'd think.
get cape wear cape fly are hideously overrated. he just has one of those faces, and voices. ok the music in general, i cant stand it.
in other news, ballroom danicing to madness? saturday night TV is weird.
when "really cool" types would say he was their favourite artist, purely because he records under a slightly quirky name and they're all so KERazay and WANDOM!
past him at Truck this year.
He's quite chubby.
not great or the best of the current billy bragg inspired brit folky punky types (thats almost certainly frank turner) but get cape is enjoyable.
i thought the album was a bit flat, i prefer the older versions of those songs
Tracks like Whitewash Is Brainwash and Call Me Ishmael could have been really good tracks. There's just something wrong with them.
Apparently they do self-induced stage invasions as well. *snigger*. And the shout outs to the ANL are well meaning but more than a little patronising.
"Get Cape's debut album, Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager has been decribed as an indie–emo fusion, suggesting that it blends the line between emotional rock (typically, Panic! At The Disco and My Chemical Romance) and indie music (Razorlight, Fratellis and The Futureheads for example)."
is a disgrace. Someone PLEASE sort that page out
ok on record.
Why do people say he's emo though? He doesn't sound like any emo band I've heard.
But I get what people mean.
Anyway, I *hate* so much. One of my (probably too) many 0 ratings.
I think he at least tries to expand on the singer songwriter thing. He's quite creative, his songs have hooks, his lyrics are interesting. I don't get the emo thing, ok maybe a a bit vocally but he's actually quite life affirming on occasion.
Maybe the record was a bit over- produced and he's still mainly potential, but I enjoyed it. A bit Over rated maybe, bad? no.
a random trip to the Barfly, and get shushed by someone for talking too loud during his set. Rubbish!
Also: Rod Thomas does it better.
when he was still a 'local' singer songwriter in kingston, supporting some other band.
we thought 'hey- cool name.' as we wanted him to be good.
but i really do agree- hugely overated.
but hes doing well, good for him.

Despite us repeatedly changing the page to read his official biog.
Do people know if you can get a block on people editing wikipedia pages!?
