It's all a hoax, the whole piece.
we are still talking about the kooks. there is did it again, argh argh etc etc.
I said it was all a joke too
were Stylus hoaxed, or was it they who came up with the piece?
that kind of stuff probably goes on, and the kooks are still shit.
....... to be honest if i was in charge of pushing them in the states, i would have said/done most of this.
I would be smug but it may change again and be true tomorrow.
did anyone actually take it seriously?!
But anyone who was skeptical was sneered at by the people who were getting aroused by it! ;)
and I still do.
Want to make something of it?
Printed it all in a news story, oops!
Because, as far as I know that's what actually happens. I was surprised that that kind of thing would get leaked but the content seemed quite plausible.
and a little to perfect and seemed like it was the work of one person.
come on folks... the reviewer has just used a different style to emphasise his opinion on the commercial nature of the Kooks' music....
for chirst's sake.
I've never seen Stylus do a thing like that before. It seems out of character for them.
If it was supposed to be serious they'd have put it as news/a feature, surely?
I believed it.
I still do actually.
if it was a 'concept' piece, I suspect they would have written it in a more obviously joking way. Rather than make it so realistic that people actually believe it, and risk getting the site into hot water.
GAH. I'm just gonna stop arguing about this now.
I just really hate people's "omg people actually BELIEVE this?!?!?" attitude though, it's incredibly patronising and insulting.
but honestly it didn't actually occur to me that it might be real.
It was more in the thread yesterday.
obviously contrived. Just the way its written. It's just too calculated. That isn't the way people write emails. There are no spelling mistakes etc.
it even says at the top.
"Spelling and grammar errors have been left in, however. "
maybe it does.
and it was just too funny, too many classic quotes, im sure the actions and attitudes are spot on but dunno it just seemed too knowing internet homour for souless execs.
that made me think it was real was that:
- it was reported by Playlouder
- Colin said he'd seen the original emails
that made me think it wasn't real was that:
- all the emails were too long. the emails I've seen from music biz people are rarely longer than a paragraph...
that might be what the reocrd company IS TELLING Colin to say!!!!!11111
Not that i particularly care really, i think the Kooks are shit regardless.
the original thread has been deleted.
Just thought I'd point that out.
has been taken down.
it's still up
it's not on the front page any more though.
it were true or a hoax, im not sure
I can't really think of a reason why you'd need to delete it if it were just a hoax.
If anything I believe it's real even more now. Nothing personal to Colin though, it's not that I don't trust him or anything.
go to the stylus review and look at the bottom line like I did? It took me 3 and 1/4 hours to realise my mistake.
Good luck keep up the good work.

'comments (18)' is uninformative. I presumed Colin meant the 'reviewed by:' thing.
as a figure of speech.
so I assumed that meant it was fictitious.
Though to be honest it bored me trying to read it so I gave up after a while. I've never heard a Kooks song so that probably doesn't help.
Have you been living under a rock? Their music has been so ubiqitous this past year
I don't really watch telly and I only tend to listen to Radio 4 and BBC 7.
and stuff. In clubs, pubs.
I don't watch much telly, never listen to the radio, have never intentionally listened to them but I seem to know all their songs pretty well.
unless I really like it I'll check I guess.
And clubs too, I don't normally know unless I make the effort.
So I guess if I have heard them I don't like them.
I have this with other bands. also by 'all' their songs I meant their singles...
Editor of said webzine e-mailed me, informing me that it was, indeed, a hoax. Additionally, Virgin have consistenly assured me that it is all made-up.
As such, I have no reason to believe otherwise, particularly when both sides are telling me it's fake!
that's a 1 not an l in his user name.
it's someone from Virgin posing as Colin???
I reckon it's Branson himself.
... oh, wait. never mind. :-P
that would have been scandalous!
who sent you the 'original' emails was winding you up?
where i end up looking really stupid, but essentially yes, you're right.
the bottom line is: it's a hoax.
I believe you then. :D
I want to read it now...
Yep, I'm surprised how something we all agree on can get so many replies.
you touch yourself at night.
in the original thread is how everybody assumed the "[Major Webzine]" was either Pitchfork or DiS, and not Stylus itself. I love Stylus even more now.
you said virgin denied it...
Now we know who the [Uk record label] that DIDNT send the emails was. You really can't keep a secret...
do you think that conversation would have happened at a label that had nothing to do with the kooks?
the kooks are signed to virgin.
what the fuck are you on about?
you really are obsessed.
What? Has he been deported?
Attemping to derive humour from the fact that although you revealed who the "secret" label was, it was completely irrelevant because the whole thing was hoax.
Please don't ban me, sir...
