Slowly creeping out as one of the best bands of this decade?
and they also look like cool motherfuckers. love them.
overrated (on here).
a bit whiney. i saw them live and it was a different story though, quite a glorious wall of sound. but for sitting and listening it doesnt do it for me.
But "Wolf Like Me" is my favourite song of the year.
is the best on return to cookie mountain. that song live was glorious. great band.
but I somehow find them easier to admire rather than adore.
The more I listen to return to cookie mountain the more I realise that its really, really, amazing.
download cookie mountain. and i never really got into the last album.
and since i didn't like the other one too much i don't really want to risk it.
200 times better than the first one. i thought it was abore on my first three listens, and then suddenly the stupid bubble in my brain popped and the pure ejaculatory wonder of it flooded in. probably album of the year.
Anyone heard OK Calculator?
Is worth getting? Is it anywhere near as good as the other two albums?
but that can work in its favour
But it's beginning to work it's magic on me. Wolf Like Me is unbelievably amazing. And it reminds me of Bloc Party. Which is always good.
very lo-fi and silly. like the first album but more basic and mixed with gbv's alien lanes or summint
but now they've taken over as one of my current most listened to bands.
And liked that a lot. Sounded spontaneous, like something they recorded after a session in the studio and then tweaked. But I could never get into Cookie Mtn. I guess I expected something like Sufferhead-era Fela. What I got was wandering jam band.
EVER. It is the most wrong thing. Like comparing Martin Lawrence to Eddie Murphy.
I prefer Desperate Youth, however much I like Cookie Mountain. It's odd cos I remember in interviews them saying they wanted the second album to be more rock-y so they could have fun live, but Wolf Like Me aside it's quite the opposite.
more of Brian Wilson than anyone else
remind me of Bloc Party. Nothing else. You gotta admit there is a resemblance in that song.
I don't think it does
I like both bands as well. Wolf Like Me is pure sonic youth gone gospel.
I've never liked Tv on the Radio as much as I thought I would after reading this review:
"We went and saw these dudes, and they slayed. The bass player looked like he was in N.W.A and had learned to play bass the day before, one of the guitar players looked like Omar from The Mars Volta after a month long Krispy Kreme binge, and everybody had fire shooting out of the ends of their hands. It ruled. Their album rules too, but doesn't "officially" come out til this year, so we put the e.p. on here. Boo yah."
I'm listening to the new album for the second time at the moment and its sounding pretty average.
Its very underwhelming at first, but it develops inside your mind, and you just have to keep playing it time and time again. Certain contender for album of the year.
I think "Young Liars" is their high water mark to date by a long way though. Which doesn't mean to say I don't like bits of the albums - I just think they've tried too hard to generate a "sound" at the expense of musical substance. Nothing on either Desperate Youth or Cookie Mountain grabs me the same way that "Blind" does. Even the album version of "Staring at the Sun" has the amazing intro lopped off for some unfathomable reason.
So yeah - I think we may have to wait for the album that proves it but they certainly have the potential to be amongst the best.
was double bill of the year
agree. I think they're utterly delightful.
