So who's next for the firing line?
Me? My money is on The Automatic (yeah it'll be a while, but I can hope)
but it's completely pointless outbursts like that ^ which earn you your reputation.
you had the opportunity to be the bigger man. particularly with sean being in NZ, he won't even see it.
And who says I have a reputation? And if I do what is it? And I am definitely the bigger man, in height if not in waistline.
I'd reluctantly say the Mystery Jets.
Why? Dunno really, as they're one of my favourite bands, and yet for some reason they haven't caught on half as much as I thought they would.
The last single didn't even chart (as in Top 40) and they've already gone down the path of re-releasing old singles which would suggest someone somewhere doesn't think they have enough quality material.
I hope I'm proved wrong, I really do.
...the kids off at the pool.
The Automatic, The Kooks, Jet, Boy Kill Boy. None of them are even 1 album wonders. Successful almost entirely on the style of music and haircuts.
Unfortunately, the other three, I fear, are 'too popular' with the masses in that I think they have at least a couple more 'successful' albums in them.
I hope I'm wrong, though.
Thing is, the Darkness were rediculously popular with the masses and look what happened to them. The masses like things that are new and exciting, and there is always going to be someone new to replace The Automatics and Kooks' of this world.
However, the Darkness really were a 'novelty' band, whereas I can't quite place The Automatic in the same context. OK, they had that novely 'Monster' hit, but they're generally well liked by the masses as they don't polarise opinions as much as, say, the Darkness did.
I still don't see what people like about the Kooks. Awful music. I hope they fuck the hell off soon.
Maybe I'm just speaking out of hope rather than logic, and just coming up with pretend reasons as to why these bands will be dropped. If it does happen, it should be from quite high I think.
it's much easier for a band to get their music heard and distributed through the internets now than it was even 5 years ago.
So if a band remains popular, and surely the Futureheads will, it's likely that that they won't just disappear and be forgotten about. There will still be an outlet for their music.
Long-view and Thirteen Senses will be dropped shortly after.
And I second Boy Kill Boy.
Might happen to the Delays too.
They sold out the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth twice over recently, if that counts for anything.
for pure rofl.
I quite like the Delays and really like Thirteen Senses...
I'm such a sucker for pseudo-epic indie bedwetters sometimes...
also in 2008.
have Warp ever dropped anybody?
have 'dropped' bands ( arguably more like just didn't accept to release another album )
Not sure of the exact details but i think they have a 4 album deal with their label, once they have released 4 albums then the label can do what they want with them. Which is fine by me because I love Long-View. So seeing as how Mercury has been re-released then I guess thats 2 so far! Thirteen Senses are a band that I really like but I can quite easily see them getting dropped if they don't come up with the goods. However, releasing their next album in January will definitely work in their favour. Indie bands always seem to do well in that month (Editors, Interpol, Kasabian). Boy Kill Boy, they'll be dropped soonish.
So one album left on their contract.
It might even have been issued four times... but I think it's three.
First release in 2003, second release was in 2005 with the two extra tracks.
First time was with a bonus CD of remixes, then the next time round it was just the album, but with extra tracks.
means, generally, that the first album has to be released (or a big payoff if it's not), and then the further three albums are options - ie. options on the label's behalf to carry on with the band. so there's nothing contractually to stop the label from dropping the band, and no one at 14th floor cares about longview anymore...
theres no way a bloc party or a maximo park will get dropped after two albums like the futureheads did, its mainly bands like boy kill boy, the automatic maybe and other bands who only have one hit single and then really average albums.
are a different class than most of the bands on the list. i might well be wrong, but their song writing is much more thought out in terms of their own sound. in a similar way to the doves have their own sound, but there are similar bands who just don't work.
also they get moer play on the all important football focus type slot
I love him which is why its so heartbreaking to say this but him for definate. He did raise a few eyebrows, but I was probably one in about 3 that bought the album. I know hes been working on a 2nd album (as well as the Cable and YCNI:Milo stuff) - so I dont think that will be well recieved. Other than that possibly Get Cape Wear Cape fly?
delays got dropped months back
They left the label of their own accord. But yeah, currently they are label-less.
that posted months ago that Rough Trade was happy with the Delays was wrong...
It actually has happened to Delays... Poor little blonde monkeys.
What the fuck's this doing down here?! Balls to the internet, it doesn't work...
Lush Cocteau Twins-inspired indie-pop.
If they haven't already.
milburn. they should be deal-less soon.
the holloways. gonna be dropped fo'shaow.
and The Bravery.
The Paddingtons will get dropped real soon I think. New songs are cack. And after seeing Boy Kill Boy perform new songs recently, it won't be long. I hope the new Bloc Party album gets the right response, they might get dropped but it will only inspire them to make better music.
They're probably one of the only bands with both underground credibility and Silent Alarm sold very well. Depends on how the second album does. And not that i'm pretending to know much about record company politics (someone can enlighten me on this...) but Wichita don't seem to exactly be the type of company to drop a band easily, especially one of their best selling ones.
Regarding the Futureheads, aren't their former label a division of Sony or something anyway? Making them more likely to be dropped. (Again I may be talking bollocks here...)
I meant underground/indie credibility and commercial success. And add loyal fanbase to that too.
i believe it was warners who told 679 that they wouldn't continue funding futureheads related activities...
seriously doubt wichita will drop bloc.
so doubt they will be next.
They're not very good.
Dogs Die In Hot Cars, though - they're quite good.
New album soon! Huzzah!
already got dropped.
appeared as a contestant on a Soduko quiz with that prick Eamonn Holmes, and she said they'd split.
dirty pretty things?i am praying for the day.
Surely Barat can't live off the reputation of one album (Up The Bracket) forever?
expect a libertines reunion
The feeling yes please ho ho ho
Whatever happened to Kubb?
I nominate them by the way.
this lots necks may be on the line...not just by labels dropping them but by public opinion also
we are scientists
the young knives
...the indie rock scene in the UK is the stalest it has been in years. I can't name one band in that genre which even slightly impresses me. Fortunately there is amazing stuff coming from elsewhere, and there's also artists of other genres in the UK who are making nice sounding stuff.
Will not get dropped. They're still getting bigger. their last tour sold out, they still could still break america. They're big with The Bloggers and are a band with a personality.
(besides, anyone who finishes a set with a Boyz 2 Men cover is deserving of a lifelong record deal)
i don't know why, the futureheads bore me to death.
