When played through the Low Gain setting, which takes out one of the preamp gain tubes sounds utterly gorgeous, with a shimmery quality. And earlier Marshalls that were pretty much copied from Fender designs also sound rather lovely for indie, in my experience.
Mesa Boogies and Ampegs are two sets of amps I wouldnt want to use for indie, though.
And that's that.
you're as bad as the people you hate seymour :)
It is preposterous of you to posit yourself outside of opinionated discussion. You cannot suggest a topic for discussion unless you are forwarding a definite reasoned argument that supports a view that is pertinent to the discussion.
can you see the first reply in this thread?
the fact that someone put forward a reasoned response indicates that i can suggest a topic for discussion and get replies
are you just angry because you don't have a clue about how to respond to the topic?
My complaint is that by suggesting discussion and not offering a definitive biased view you are perceiveing yourself above the discussion as an overseer, which is wrong.
so let me get this right traynor: you're perceiving raz's psychic construct of himself in relation to this discussion, and then invalidating it? well done.
it's easy to suggest a topic without taking a side. raz simply biased the perception (and ensuing discussion) of the topic.
the question will now be: will anyone pick up the actual topic. i myself don't know shit about amps. so any stance will merely be blowing shit out of my ass. but most of my best pontificating comes in this manner.....
Such behaviour is the practice of social worker types who are evil.
wooooo someone's been through counselling
it's merely remaining objective. but yes, i despise social workers as well.
is socially unacceptable because it takes a class of people to a place above those around them
what if i knew little about the topic and the topic was actually something someone had said to me that i didn't understand and so i thought i'd post it on a music forum to see if anyone would explain it but instead became embroiled in discussion with a pernickety old man who didn't get it in the first place?
why not ask a question rather than suggest discussion?
come on now. try harder. you're trying to be clever on a message board so BE clever.
get out more.
Mr_JDTraynor is the most moronic post I have ever, ever read on this forum. Seriously.
theyre not the most versitile amp, but theres still a place for fuzzy warmth for the rhythm guitar
so yes, you're right there.
Peavey amps are shit for all music: discuss.
are amazing for people to slay with at home. And they never break. Vive le Peavey.
Mine blew up.
Or was it Top Shop?
Yeah! They're fucking bollocks all round! well said.
marshall amps are just wrong in general.
orange amps are teh sex
peavey are one dimensional and lack any depth at all.
Marshall are good if you like messy.
Orange are just weak.
There were several reasons i bought a fender.
anyway my marshall rules once the valves have properly heated up. Bit big to lug about though when playing shitty london gigs on their shitty london stages for dick head promoters who do everything apart from "Promote" and care nothing for music. Kinda wish I had a fender sometimes.
and Line 6 have that fairly useful built-in effects bit for swells/reverb etc. Downside is that the computer in the back means a Line 6 combi weighs a fucking ton
thurstan moore uses a peavey amp.
fender hot rods are best. because they are small(ish).
amps are a lot more clearer than muddy old Marshalls. I prefer Fender, yaarrrrr.
Marshall amps are SHIT. When I use one I feel like a fat man at a blues jam night.
I have one of these:
THe tone is somewhere between Vox and Fender I reckon.
that link is stupid. It's a peavey Classic 100.
I stupidly bought a Marshall DSL100 head+cab a few years ago back when I didnt have a clue. I've been really unhappy with the sound ever since. Its decent if your playing metal/hc/heavy rock but for anything that needs a good clean sound its rubbish.
I recently bought a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp and it has a lovely sound perfect for Indie or postrock.
the last three words off your sentence.
but Marshall Stacks look the tits when you've got a line of the fuckers behind you onstage.
That said, my Marshall's only the cheapy MDFX100whatsit head and I really love the clean sound for my solo stuff. And it's a good rhythm guitar sound if you've got a proper lead guitarist wailing over the top. When I'm the only guitarist in a band, though, I prefer using a Fender.
marshall or fender heads on orange or mesa cabs
sound immense! I dislike the amps though.
can't go wrong.
that is, if you want your guitar to sound like anything other than james hetfield's
in 'Some Kind Of Monster' sounds 1000x more amazing than a Marshall combo. He has a big line of vintage amps. The album's still shit, but those amps!
I use my Marshall head through one for recording and it sounds FAT AS.
like mine. Its been pretty good so far. Unfortunately, were not.
What is a good CHEAP valve amp to buy? I'm looking at about 50 watts.
Ive got one ! Its good ! 40 watts but sounds great.
