Where's the love?
Okay, they don't actually sound much like the velvet underground really... but I still prefer them.
BUT it's so difficult to get any Os Mutantes stuff, the LPs are like gold dust.GOLD DUST I TELL YOU.
Os Mutantes are pretty good, but better than the Velvets? What are you, some kind of mental?
to get the first Os Mutantes record on import. It was worth it. Equally good to the Velvets. Not really similar so pointless linking the two. Someone really needs to reissue them sometime soon.
I was just being silly... just both vaguely psychedelic-y bands that were around at the same time. Ish.
Amazing songwriter, wrote hit singles for other bands but due to being marketed in the wrong way never got any herself. Miles ahead of her time. Crazy time changes, beautiful voice, fantastic piano playing and orchestration. I'd be very suprised if Ys by Joanna Newsom and the new Regina Spektor record weren't directly influenced by her. My favourite artist of the 60s.
Synthesized sounds were done by acts before but they did it so similar to modern electronica it's mad. The vocals date it a bit but the drums sound so like a drum machine it's brilliant. The fact that you can get both their first albums for £6 is insane.
are pretty great. You can get their first album for even less on amazon at the moment.
Underrated 60s: The Music Machine
Not particularly underrated, but there is so much more to this band than Talk Talk.
How about this one:
Caetano Veloso > The Beatles
caetona veloso > beatles.
but the velvets...that's sacred territory. they're like the best band...ever.
actually os mutantes remind me more of the beatles than either the velvets or veloso.
os mutantes are classic, but the velvet underground are a separate entity all together, and the first 3 albums are still so staggeringly brilliant that i think it's not too wrong to call them one of the best bands ever.
her whole career is just Venus In Furs.
Venus in Furs is almost the only Velvets song I like though.
I'm pretty sure it's just the production that stops me from enjoying them. It's so tinny in places. It's just like 100% treble.
I'm pretty sure there's more to it than just that.
Velvet Underground > Os Mutantes > The Beatles > Caetano Veloso > Silver Apples
but then, i've hardly listened to Silver Apples, so i don't know yet if i'm going to think they're the best thing EVERRR
still, mmmm 60's brazilian pop :D
The Sonics > every other band ever
silver apples are too low down there
but because they haven't had nearly as much attention as the rest, they go to the bottom
it'll be remedied, i promise :)
that just doesn't feel right.
Caetano Veloso > Mutantes > Velvets > Silver Apples > Beatles
