tonight at the underworld.
that is all.
stop being so pointedly obscure!
cos it was too cold and i got home late. baroness were SICK last year, i am sad to miss torche though :(
how scary was the look on the singers face, he was possessed.
It was worth blowing out all my work colleagues at my leaving party for, and I'm getting a real earbashing this morning.
That's TWICE i've missed them live.
and im going to blame you. just because i can.
Mono in Leeds tonight. You SHOULD be going, but you're not. THat's YOUR fault.
its everyone else's fault for having a shit taste in music
Torche were a revelation. The singer's moustache alone has changed my life. Capricorns were good, Baroness were great, but Torche.... fucking hell.
I'm off to Brighton tomorrow for some more. Hurrah!
All should invest in their record.
on Wednesday - Baroness were fab, Torche even more my thing. Aceness, dodgy facial hair notwithstanding. I am glad I did this instead of watching Celtic @ Benfica:(
The facial hair was the centrepiece. The piece de resistance. The cherry on top. The... [fine, I'll stop now.] Seriously though, his moustache was a thing to behold. The amazing thing was how he'd hit upon a riff he was clearly really pleased with, grin like a child molester, and his moustache would spread across his face from ear to ear. It was incredible.
I found Torche very disappointing. Caught em in Birmingham, and just found the sheer volume really overbearing. 2 full guitar stacks and an ampeg 8x12 cranked right up meant the vocals were just lost underneath pure distortion and noise. All the intricate guitar lines weaving above the riffs were also inaudible.
When you have tunes as huge and powerful as Torche why would you choose to bury them under a wall of guitars? They could easily be as big as Helmet but choose instead to go for power over clarity.
Quite a few ppl at the gig thought exactly the same. Plus the girl I'd met there had to sit in the other room as it was just way too loud. And yes, I left her there. Ahem.
Baroness weren't as bad, but still their technical stuff was nowhere near as clear as it should've been.
