the funniest, most enjoyable rap album of all time?
wasn't it the very first album by the man now better known as MF Doom, the currently very much loved by indie folks bloke?
it is and its probably one of the best things he's ever done, well worth a download
i might just check it out then, hopefully some other people on here will too!
I think not.
Although, having said that, I've never heard this! I like his debut - guesting on 'the gas face' by 3rd Bass. Now THAT is a tune.
they use loads of samples from fifties instructional recordings to make a character called mr hood who is completely demented, and they use samples of bert from sesame street humming as a backing tune, and lots of other fun stuff. download.
'Mr Hood meets Onyx'
I'm not a law-breaking, file-sharing type, but I'll see if I can pick it up cheap on amazon.
it's nonstop goodness, all killer no filler.
Yeah - great album, not my favourite from KMD though. I think 'Black Bastards' is a more enjoyable listen.
'Mr Hood' has been out of print on CD for years, but I noticed that CD City in Soho have some legitimate looking reissues in stock. It used to go for 30-40 quid on eBay, but looks like you can get it from Amazon for a sensible price now.
'Nitty Gritty' is my favourite track - RIP Subroc.
i couldn't get hold of the 2001 reissue, but i did get Black Bastards which is one of my favourite ever records.
i've only ever heard the singles off Mr Hood :(
I still have a Mr Hood CD from first time round but its pretty fucked, so i'm definitely going to pick up a reissue.
Yeah - Black Bastards is such an amazing album. That reissue from 2001 or whenever is, apparently, mastered from a cassette bootleg version of the album by DOOM himself. From what I heard, Dante Ross owns the actual masters and refuses to give them up.
it's a good quality cassette though if that's the case.
god, i'm completely going to dig it out later.
Yeah, it may be bullshit, but hey, its a good story.
The sound is definitely fucked up on it though, but I dig the rawness.
Listening to it now. 'Sweet Premium Wine' is THE definitive Friday afternoon pre-booze up anthem.
"You're drinking too much of that WINE of yours"
