Really. What do you really want from a song?
and plenty of them.
At least bit that makes me rewind to listen to again. Bonus points if it makes me want to bore friends with the same bit.
is the answer I was looking for!
You win an imaginary medal. Here it is.
Sometimes that, but sometimes a feeling that your bowels are about to spontaneously open like a man hanging in a noose while your mind fragments into a thousand glittering shards of pure, brightly coloured emotion.
and everything just seems to work and you know in an instant that you're going to love it?
I want five minutes of that.
Wide eyes and that feeling that if you let yourself laugh you'd never stop?
I didn't describe it very well. I find what makes a song great is often indescribable. Some of my favourite bands, like Galaxie 500, seem to have these disparate elements that individually don't seem to work but put it all together and it's almost the most perfect thing imaginable.
unrequited love songs with an approximate 70/30 misery/hope ratio. And songs about how tragic the transitory nature of existence is.
TORTURED EXPRESSIONS of EMOTIONAL PAIN!!!!!!!
or pedal steel.
