who are the best producers for punk rock bands these days?
steve albini (yes hes not a "Producer" ETC)
Best tin can snare drum sound 2k3.
Doesn't Lanois produce U2 or someone? He ain't a punk rocker like.
yet you recommend albini?!?
i put albini down because i like the sound of records that are made with him. whether he likes the term producer or not, i like his production.
what he does in most cases is simply use his knowledge of mic technique to capture pretty much precisely what the band sound like live.
"and i think he works like an artist not an engineer...
producers who are basically glorified engineers annoy me..."
albini, as far as interviews ive read with him say, does not have an creative input in the records - i believe many producers will advise the band on arrangements and strcuture in the song, for example.
when this is taken away, all you really have is an engineer who takes on the administrative role often given to a producer, which, if youve got some problem with engineers, leaves you with a "glorified engineer"
want a direct record of what theyre doing. i cant for the life of me work out what the fuck youre trying to say. if theres a "producer" around who is essentially an engineer, its albini. and thats brilliant.
explain what you mean by a glorified engineer then.
and could you please note how retarded this strand of teh thread looks, with you posting three abusive replies to my one inoffensive remark?
about Lanois and punk rock?
or apologise for being stupid and bizarrely argumentative?
wikipedia is crap
he has done punk...
why don't you just go straight to wikifuckingpedia if you want the advice of morons instead of people who know music?

explain what you mean by a "glorified engineer"
i believe that your definition will either fit albini, or be completely nonsensical.
do you have an attention disorder or any language comprehension difficulties that would explain your inability to see peoples points and progress a discussion?
yes, id call albini a producer, hence my post at the beginning, and he is good.
all i was saying was that he doesnt do as much "producing" (effects and arrangements) as many producers, and more "engineering" (mic placement, room sound).
so with your definition of "glofied engineers as "crap producers", your earlier statement reads as: "producers who are basically crap producers annoy me". which kind of doesnt need saying.
you keep putting things in quote marks as if theyre direct quotations when theyre not.
i said " he doesnt do as much "producing" "
note the quote marks around producing.
they serve to distance me from this definition of production, which, as you point out, is wrong.
we both agree on albini's talents.
the only reason this conversation is continuing is that you are REALLY STUPID, and im unemployed.
But Raz was asking about Punk Rock. He hasn't produced a punk rock album. Wikipedia does not lie.
More often than not
Someone go and look at the DJs thread. You can never discredit wikipedia.
instead of just talking nonsense, just show him that hes wrong
I dunno if that counts though. Otherwise it's Peter Gabriel and Paul Oakenfold and ting.
I used allmusic this time. He also played the pedal steel on a Charlatans album.
gilby clarke (srsly)
and Matt Bayles probably
and bizarrely ross robinson seems to have a certain way with punk bands.
bob rock should not be allowed near a mixing desk, the man is a bollock.
oh, and the lovely man from liberez who's name temporarily escapes me but has produced the new trencher album. Good ears.
he produced that lump of turd that was the last incubus album, non?
Rick Rubin doing Reign in Blood = ace
Rick Rubin these days letting Brendan O'Brien do all the work on crappy albums and stroking his beard = crap
although i really didnt like the forward russia album as much as i was expecting
Pelle Henricsson, Eskil Lövström, Pelle Holmström and Magnus Lindberg.
are great producers at everything, especially the last Refused album and both Hell Is For Heroes albums.
These are some bands from the website: Poison The Well, Hell Is For Heroes, In Flames, Cult of Luna, Refused, Bombshell Rocks, Breach, Jeniferever, KVLR, Convoj, Starmarket, The Kinison, Waver, Amulet, Disco Ensemble, Fireside, Khoma, Blindspott, Dukes of Windsor etc etc…
