on Sympathy for the record industry.
I thought they split after the 'officially dead' EP but apprently no !
Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on that in my record shop...
What is now being called Veruca Salt does not include Nina Gordon. She left several years ago after her boyfriend, Dave Grohl (yes, that Dave Grohl) cheated on her with-surprise-Louise Post. So Veruca Salt will never really exist again. But then again, I don't really know why you would want them to. You have them to blame for Kitty as well as the proliferation of those dreaded "Women in Rock" issues of all of the worst magazines. Leave it to that band to make a commercial mockery of everything that the riot grrrl movement had set out to accomplish. Yuck.
But why blame them ?
Surely the people responsible for hyping this bands and putting them on covers are more responsible...
As for Nina Gordon, her solo effort aren't that good...
Oh yeah, she sucks too. I blame Veruca Salt (including Gordon-I would never absolve her) for all that stuff because of the way they carried themselves, for playing into nearly every stereotype of what a girl rock band is, and because they were so very self-consciously "GIRLS WHO RAWK!!" And the worst part is that I think some people actually thought they were punk rock, but they were really kind of like "what if the girlfriends of the guys in Motley Crue formed a band?" They were silly hard rock party girls who had nothing to say. But perhaps I shouldn't blame them. The public has never been able to resist something that was vapid and cute.
For me they were MTV-friendly indie-rock with catchy tunes.
Never ever thought someone might have take them for riot girls or punk !
Good fun music.
But it's just me...
i'm excited about this news - louise post decamped to australia a long while ago and they released an album and an ep post nina gordon (who's doing some quite nice stuff as it happens). Its not the same, but i really hope i'll get to see them live round these here parts.
and I think I've only played them once or twice. Good but rather unremarkable, an Elastica-light even if they RAWK harder than Elastica. I'd rather listen to Sleater-Kinney, or Throwing Muses if I'm in Rockin' Chicks mood.
???????
wut ?
ah, louise post
my teenage fantasy.
I wasn't a teenager anymore
when 'seether' was released...
I'm feeling so old right now !
i have one of their albums
i've never listened to it.
which
one ?
American Thighs
i bought it from a charity shop for £1.50.
the 'classic' then !
'seether' is one of the best indie-rock single ever !
i'll give it a listen
then. i probably should, i've had it for about three years now...
they're all good
give it a spin.
did you try
the new one ?
not yet
got a big listening list today, will see if i can fit it in tomorrow.
it's heavier
than ever...
My question marks
Were of a 'wut' nature. When was this out? Over here, or just in USA?
I didn't even know they were still together. I frickin' loved American Thighs.
USA only I think

me too...
Or Forget Cassettes, or the Grates, or the Keep Aways...
But I've always think of Veruca Salt as a POP band i disguise...
