...anyone know, for sure, when this is announced????
They've relegated it to a channel that not every licence-fee payer can see.
...I'm sure the winner's announced before that show, though...
it isn't important
I can never remember it being on live on BBC2 anyway and it's on live on BBC4, which most normal people have access to and it's their big "arts" channel, so it makes sense really. It's probably on the radio live too.
so it must have been on BBC 2
they show it a few days after on bbc2
it wasn't live last year and it's on this year on Thursday or Friday on BBC2 look in the Radio Times or something.
Too young to remember.
Recorded, usually hosted by Jo Whiley, she was always joined by two "experts."
Why not live on BBC3 surely thats more its target market?
Are you saying that the Mercury Prize is only for those with more disposable income ?
BBC 4 = 'highbrow' arts, educated, over 30s
BBC 3 = 'yoof', entertainment
so it could go on either really. You don't need much 'disposable income' to get these channels, it's a one-off payment of £30. Unless you have a crap TV like me, then it doesn't work.
It's about £20 for a digital box and most the artists featured appeal to the White Middle Classes
Is far more BBC4 than BBC3. BBC3 is basically nowt but Two Pints Of Shite And A Packet Of Wank.
It was on BBC4 live last year, I can remember watching the gimp from NME telling Jo Whiley he didn't think his readers 'were ready' for Antony & The Johnsons.
It'll be on BBC2 in the next few days. I'd take a TOTAL guess at it being in the Later slot on Friday.
the cameraman is crazy for hot chip. them to win :D.
"most the artists featured appeal to the White Middle Classes" DUMBEST STATEMENT EVER!!!!! How can a style of music's appreciation be dependent on the income levels of the people who like it?
target audience then if you wish to be pedantic.
after last years controversy. Doesn't make it right though :(
Hahahaha wtf is the point of this award!?
Watch. Arctic Monkeys will shoot to number 1.
the mercury prize?
for further DiScussion: Fyfe Dangerfield and Colin Roberts. Separated at birth?
Shouldn't he be a Private Detective or something?
It's all about some decent albums getting the recognition they deserve.
I was a bit pissed off about Sika Redem not being nominated, but there was alwys a fat chance of that though wasn't there?
That Thom Yorke performance was astonishing. I really liked the Guillemots one too.
I think I'll go check out that Mark Lanegan album- after all, that's the whole point.
album is great
Just sounded like interchangeable sugary indie tripe to me. It's what I imagine people rave about when they're talking about "good indie pop". It just seemed so...plastic. It didn't do anything for me, sorry.
it's on bbc2 on friday
the bbc are showing it live on bbc4 this is better coverage than in previous years, so give it a rest would ya?
