Ugh mainstream music journalism
I'm currently doing some as yet unpaid work for the arts section of the Independent on Sunday.
I was just talking to the music editor and something struck me. She was talking about the fact that she was pissed off because Razorlight's PR had offered to fly her out to Tokyo to do something with the band.
I conveyed my utter contempt for Borrell et al and she was like "Oh I think they're quite good."
I've long been preoccupied by the fact that much of the music industry is controlled by money, but this really brought it home. What music critic is going to pass up the opportunity for a trip to Tokyo? Giving Razorlight a good review is a small price to play, whether you like them or not. And lo and behold, they have basically bought critical approval, and hence popularity, and hence more money.
This whole business is bullshit. Discuss.
