Fly On The Wall
You have the unique opportunity to sit-in on one of your favorite albums being made. Which would it be?
You'd love to see history being made. How cool would it be to watch the Beatles record Revolver or Sgt. Pepper? "Martin," you say to the producer, "you've absolutely gotta let John keep the weird shit on A Day in the Life stand." Or see Kurt Cobain at work on Nevermind. Kevin Shields creating Loveless. Thom on OK Computer.
Maybe you're into lo-fi. Given your druthers you'd love to watch Malkmus' and his buddies lay down the tracks for Slanted 'n Enchanted in a California garage. Or Liz Phair (Exile in Guyville) in a Minnesota basement. Or Robert Pollard downing beer after beer, creating melody after melody, for Bee Thousand or Alien Lanes.
Maybe you're into twidlin' knobs and such and would want to watch musician masters like Steely Dan or some such. Or maybe you're a drug addict who loves to hang with other drug addicts and you'd love to be in Philadelphia when Bowie recorded Young Americans. Or maybe in L A to see Guns 'N Roses make Appetite for Destruction. Iggy making Raw Power. Or ....the list of drug addled rock stars is a bit lengthy (hehe). Maybe you'd love to see one of your heroes whose passed on: Jeff Buckley, Jimi Hendrix, Ian Curtis etc.
Or maybe it doesn't matter which band it is as long as it's Steve Albini producing. (In which case I'd choose PJ's Rid of Me, personally...or maybe Surfer Rosa...that right? Albini did produce Surfer Rosa, que no?) Maybe you'd just love to watch an album recorded at some cool place like Abbey Road or that famous place in Memphis where Elvis did his stuff or whatever.
Enough speculation. Tell us.
