in that they both have a handful of songs that totally outshine everything else they write...
...I think Guillemots have more at the moment, but Fields could well beat them in a couple of months time.
If I had a choice of who to go and see right now? I'd choose Fields.
Seen both bands live.
Was more impressed with Fields, but was actually quite bored by Guillemots live.
Fields gave me more of a 'wow' factor live, but when I first listened to Guillemots on record I was more excited hearing them, than Fields on record.
I think both bands are excellent, they are needed and shows there is good stuff out there.
saw them both live before I heard anything on record. In the case of Fields i think it was their first ever show - i didn't even know who they were and they completely blew me away.
Guillemots didn't do the same for me, even after seeing them a few more times since. Their singles are quite good though.
'Trains to Brazil' is the only standout tune that Guillemots seem to have, whereas Fields seem to have a lot more at their disposal.
Guillemots are still a treat to watch live though. Quite moving in fact.
whereas Fields are incredibly dull, derivative and completely lacking in merit. The both times I've seen them I've completely lost interest and actually ended up wandering off because they were so dull.
No doubt Colin will inform me that I'm too ignorant too undertand them or not listening properly since DiS are seeming to love them at the moment...
At a push, Fields.
you literally are the biggest cunt ever.
I like Fields a LOT. Guillemots just make me cringe a bit.
They only have a handful of really good songs, but it's more than I like by guillemots, which is about... one... really. And I probably prefer their overall sound.
I'd give guillemots another chance live though, the one time I saw them was clearly a bad night for them, but it put me off somewhat.
are much more interesting to mine heathen ears - more strings to their bow, you see
but i do like fields, so i would say yes.
supporting the Spinto Band earlier this year and they were pretty forgettable. Hope this helps
so I'm going with Fields.
an odd comparison to make, as musically they're completely different. The last Fields EP was excellent; 'brittlesticks' is easily as good as 'song for the fields'.
Trouble with Guillemots is that everyone assumes the album will be a collection of 'trains to brazil's, when really it's their pop anomaly. Awesome album though, so i guess it's a big 'yes' to both from me, despite them being nothing alike.
have these bands got myspaces?
okay- so I found Guillemots myspace
Listening to madeuplovesong43, and trying to verbalize what it is I don't like about it...and then it hit me. It sounds like coldplay. The other ones don't sound like the 'play, but they aren't great, in my opinion. At least they have melodies rather than just shouting, I guess...but its all a bit too ambient for me 'through the windowpane' has some nice chord changes on it, but his voice makes me think of David Gray
the first song on fields website wins them the prize for me...not amazing, but better than Guillemots- song for the fields.
Points deducted for 'if you fail we all fail'...horrible
They don't really sound similar to each other, though...are they both 'three blokes and a bird' bands or something?
