Cats and Cats and Cats
The band can barely afford to tour, so people selfishly sharing their songs before they've even managed to put the record out is pretty unfair.
I hate the internet sometimes. Just watch Eastenders or something.

so: file sharing
a bad thing then?
i personally have heard about half a song by them on DiS radio, and if that link had worked, i would have listened to them more and been more likely to go see them live, and if it was only one or two songs, buy whatever record they had on them.
i suppose i should just go to their myspace.
yep
just go to their myspace, listen to what the band would like you to listen to.
if you like it, message them and ask for more.
the fact is, the stuff that was being shared here has yet to properly leave the 'grasp' of the band and it certainly hasn't entered the public domain per se.
i think we should respect the wishes of artists a little more.
Should I feel guilty now
about starting that thread ? Im still gonna buy it when it comes out. And I would go to their shows if they came to scotland (and if i would get in).
Whatever.
Nice reply from the horses mouth.
Though sometimes, a band's demos sound better than the finished article.
People shouldn't be castigated for wanting to hear them, or indeed, deciding that the rougher mixes are to their preference, and loving and cherishing them. If they are recordings that are not likely be passed on for hard earnt, what's the problem. We're probably only talking about twenty-fifty or so people downloading that material, and anyone of those could be fans for life.
Though I understand why you are precious about your creativity. It's important.
tear & share
Name me a small indie band that can afford to tour?
I know of a band who played 10 days in Europe supporting an established American band. They spent 2 grand of their money doing it, some nights they made £70 on merch others £450. They also gave away demo cd's to some fans who bothered to buy their cd single and T-shirts. Fans have been encouraged to tear & share the cd to spread the word.
If C&C&C tracks have leaked out early then the band only have themselves to blame for being to trusting. I suggest they look at who made them available and batter them.
I thought...
the comment, "[t]he band can barely afford to tour" was pretty strange. Since we're talking about a relatively young and new band, who haven't released much yet...and haven't got anything to sell.
I can definitely see why the guys don't want dodgy versions of songs flying around, but surely the scale must be pretty minor?
the tracks are
from a new EP which is out later this month on unlabel.
it's their first commercial release and they're doing a short tour to promote it around the south east. i imagine colin is referring to the fact that the band would have liked to tour further but couldn't afford it at this point.
Well said
I tend to agree with that.
If you didn't want them to be heard then you should have made sure that they were not given to someone who put them online. Find out who it was and give them a slap!
Anyway, lesson learnt. Looks like Cats and Cats and Cats are playing the STA Alldayer aftershow and I'm really looking forward to it.
good shit...
so bands playing at the Aftershow now include Cats3, 4 or 5 Magicians and The Young Playthings? That's good shit...anyone else?
fickle public
and distophia
and then music until we get kicked the fuck out :D
