razorblade suitcase

I've just put this album on for the first time in years, and I'd forgotten just how good it is. Gavin Rossdale is a rockstar celebrity idiot, and I'm sure (not that I've heard it) that his output since has been utterly bollocks (science of things and the one after were anyway) but this record has a great empty kind of atmosphere - I especially like the guitars, not really anything like it to be found anywhere else in musical history. I mean, I know it's very Nirvana, but the way the two guitars work together is unlike anything Kurt and whoever his backup guitarist had.

Second, and probably more controversially, I actually think it is Steve Albini's best production work.

I'm not expecting anyone to agree here...

  • Kill yourself.

The world must be protected from the spreading of your foul seed.

    • i want to hate it

I was almost sick when I went to see Bush once - Rossdale is filthy.

But some of the guitar on this album is really good.

I guess it does take an indredibly cold objectivity to be able to accept this though.

  • i have this album

i have never listened to it

    • I would never advocate killing yourself

just because you think 'Razorblade Suitcase' is a good album.

Unless you've got this far (ie. 5 posts) down and haven't yet realised that you're wrong.

In which case, kill yourself. Immediately. You'll have children one day, but they'll be deformed.

      • without wishing to be really put in my place

why is it that bad? Or are Bush just an easy target?

      • Incidentally,

'Razorblade Suitcase' had the greatest review in the NME I've ever seen.

It said, quite simply, "Shit suitcase. (0)"

The only time I've ever felt my money was justified.

        SeymourMBA @SeymourMBA | 9 Aug '06, 03:11 | X
        • if you had the one with the "comeback" pixies on the front

My chin and arm were in it so that was probably also money well spent.

I guess I have pulled the musical equivalent of having a ginger fetish.

          Apologies.

          dan_thw @SeymourMBA | 9 Aug '06, 03:20 | X
          • I'm ginger

            but I cover it up.

            So your fetish is justified.

Actually, I'll be the first to admit that Gavin Rossdale is well fit.

And Boy George agrees with me, so I'm in good company. And that's alright.

            Huh!

            SeymourMBA @dan_thw | 9 Aug '06, 03:28 | X
            • just to qualify

I don't have a bush fetish. Especially not a ginger bush fetish.

But I still like the dual guitars on Razorblade Suitcase.

              dan_thw @SeymourMBA | 9 Aug '06, 03:40 | X
              • Duelling guitars?

                Is that like duelling banjos?

I now want to hear this album due to the Albini production. I guess I must have done in people's houses 10 years ago.

I'm sure the first single of the Science of Things wasn't that bad? I probably own it. Maybe I'd hate it now. Maybe? Hmm...Definitely?

                • i think you mean Swallow

                  it's terrible.

                  guntrip @TheoGB | 9 Aug '06, 10:14 | X
                  • I think that was The Chemicals Between Us

awful song title, was it Suede had a song called The Chemistry Between Us?

                    moribund @guntrip | 9 Aug '06, 10:22 | X
                    • Yeah, the Chemicals Between Us

That's the one. I will have liked it due to some fancy little sound somewhere, I think.

And yes, I think you're right about Suede having done that, but then they don't really matter much (apart from b-sides) after Butler left.

                      TheoGB @moribund | 9 Aug '06, 13:01 | X
              • i actually

                LOVE ginger bush

        • .....

I saw Bush live in 1999 with the school "rock society". They were so boring that I tried crowd surfing for the first time. Then went to the back and did it again six times until security threw me out.

        • LOL

at Nigel Pulsford's little bald head

          moribund | 9 Aug '06, 10:05 | X
        • i won't leave you standing alone

i've never had a problem with Bush, Rossdale's a little OTT with his vocals but i've certainly never understood why they catch so much flack. Musically, on Razorblade Suitcase especially, i really like them.

Disclaimer: i also think Pablo Honey is a fantastic Radiohead album.
