On first listen it is a pile of average hip-hop bollocks. Going go back for a second listen to see if I am right.
your first impression is/was fully accurate.
nothing lasts forever
where did it all go wrong? this LP is awful, Endtroducing... is INCREdIBLE.
There's still some incredibly good shit. The only 'dated' aspect is true of all my older favourite records: That I've listened to them a LOT in the past.
but I am ready to extremely disappointed. He was amazing at Wireless though. He keeps explaining himself on his website, which leads me to think he's expecting a huge backlash from this album because he knows it's shit...
Kasabian are on this album
Dear Christ, you're DJ Shadow, you could have Radiohead or anyone. WHY
to work with...Keane.
but what i have heard was really well produced hyphy/crunk tracks
which leads me to think: why didn't he just do that for other people rather than putting it out as solo material?
I'm glad he's tried to do something different. Trip-Hop has really been done to death, there's nothing to be gained from further flogging that long dead genre.
On the plus side the Crunk tracks are incredibly well produced, it's amazing how well he's turned his hand to that genre. But as Matt said why not just produce for other people? Because the stuff without guest rappers is pretty dodgy, I mean what the fuck is up with those Cheesy neo-soul tracks?
In conclusion he should give up on solo albums and stick to that shit hot production sound he's got going.
Always been tremendously overrated if you ask me. But I liked his cut on the Cage album.
the track they did was good
