It's a common enough story: indie act makes a couple of quirky lo-fi albums that a few thousand fans take to heart, indie act then procedes to hook up with a producer and make a slick shiny record amid the cries of sellout.
So it's reasonably predictable for Spektor fans to turn on her after hearing the slick pop sounds of 'Begin To Hope'. Trying to escape this preditability i've tried hard to like the album but it's simply a bit shit.
The quirky vocal mannerisms are all but gone, the simplistic but charming piano and chair arrangments have evaporated, only to leave songs groaning under the weight of a million shitty drum beat are super slick guitar work. Bar Samson (and another Piano only song I can't remember..) this album is total toss, Better is so incredibly horrible I can barely listen to it.
So what does everyone else think?
