I don't think Damon Albarn gets anywhere near as much credit as he deserves for the stuff he's done
Granted, that may be because he's a bit of a prick...
Not a big fan of the first Gorillaz album but I like the second one and I think the Mali Music album is amazing.
The man comes across as a complete dick - when you read interviews, if you've read the Blur book 3862 Days and so on.
But he also happens to be a complete genius who can turn his hand to anything. I've no doubt that this, yet again, will be nothing less than ace...
Allbran + Coxon = Well good
Allbran + anyone else = Not well good
I've never understood it. Granted, he is capable of producing the odd pop gem. But, really?
He leaves Blur because of the direction they were heading in (although imho Think Tank is pretty brilliant) and he goes back to making the same music that Blur were 10 years ago. Why's that so impressive?
I've never understood why he's regarded as such a legend. Anybody care to shed light on this?
but I think higely overrated as a solo artist.
See Thomfa's reply to mine.
My favourite period of Blur was when they changed from the Britpop stuff to the low-fi Pavement sounding stuff from their self titled album. Beetlebum is ace, which was I presume mainly down to Coxon.
I also don't get why he's gone back to the Britpop sounding stuff, after moaning so long about Blur being a circus act etc, but as Thom_fa said, top guitarist.
but it does seem strange that he hated it at the time and wanted Blur to become more out-there..
Coxon + no one else = Not well good.
