I strongly recommend Catherine Anne Davies
Great voice and fine songs, and she does not fall into some nice category or genre, so there.

quite good but not a fan
For me Josephine Foster, Carla Bozulich or Marissa Nadler are doing this kind of thing far better.
they are not as bluesey as Catherine, and some of her songs are like P J Harvey with a deeper voice.
true
but not for me !
Have you listen to the enw Lisa Germano.
I so wish I was in Paris to buy it...
as I suppose this was for me :
( and I couldn't imagine my single opinion voiced in 2 lines was so important ) :
1. I respect was she is doing and said I found it good but not for me.
2. I didn't say she sounded like other people just that I liked other singer/songwriter with the same kind of influences better.
3. I'm no critic ( and never wanted to be a musician ) just someone listening to a lot of music. As such I think I'm allowed to give my opinion on this forum. That's why I said :"FOR ME".
You don't agree with me, I don't see a problem with that but apprently you do.
I said 'quite good but not a fan'
And if I can completely agree with what you say in general about songwriting, you won't make me change my mind about the fact that I find some similarities ( which isn't a bad thing ! ) with the artists I cited. Not saying that their music is the same but that I found them having a kindred spirit.
Maybe I should have expanded my opinion in my original post.
Maybe you take one post on an internet forum too seriuously.
Still haven't seen her live
:(
She's on my Facebook.
I didn't realise she was a singer and don't know how she got there.
Will listen.
she's ace
a friend of mine described her as "like a beautiful bleak rain"
or
"A voice like a lake of black honey"
My 2 cents
She looks like St Vincent's prettier sister, has the voice of Tori Amos, slow burning piano melodies, and an heart wrenching string section... she does sound like a "beautiful bleak rain". If I have one complaint, it's that (based on just those 4 tracks) Davies occasionally needs to break free of her restraints. Maybe pick up the tempo or toss out an orgasmic yelp, I dunno. As Paul Draper is producing (or something) for her album, I suspect my impressions of Ms Davies will only improve. 7.7/10
Frankly, I'm not usually fussed about Traynor's recommendations... but this time he scored.
I'd love to see her live, too. And, well, I think I'd like to have sex with her. Erm, yes, I'd absolutely like to have sex with her.
I didn't realise people had heard of her
she's a friend of some friends of mine and I used to see her play all the time at really small shows as the Hope and Anchor about three years ago. She was really good back then, will be interesting to hear how she has developed.
Well
she is playing the Royal Festival Hall later this year
"Davies occasionally needs to break free of her restraints. "
Pah!
Why does she have to do that?
