... but if you like the kind of tunes that Green Man puts on (and what tunes they are this year), I'll hazard a guess that, no matter what age you actually are, the last place you'd want to be is a youngies festival. Jus' sayin'...
then I'd much rather go to a festival for old folkies like Green Man. Wilco and AC are playing too...ok maybe Wilco aren't the best example...
If anyone is going to this and needs an extra person pm me. :)
I thought there was a pretty good mix of people last year. A few crusty old druids maybe but plenty of younger folk who turned out in droves for the likes of Los Campesinos. Lots of families too.
His last album is superb. Richard Thompson was great, Junior Boys were another band I got into that weekend. In fact that run of bands on the Saturday (when the rain was at its worst and having got as wet as I was going to) was the most fun I've had at a festival in years.
There's actually a nice mix of older people and young people and families and there aren't really any wankers there. It just means that the campsite is slightly quieter :). I'm going again this year and I can't wait.
Anyone who has travelled down from Scotland before...what's the consensus on best way to get there? Was thinking of just getting the train down but it seems a long trek with the changes and everything.
It has an amazing atmosphere and a great mix of people, oldies like me (31), kids (like, proper kids), and a few polite teenagers (none of those Reading ruffians) probably at their first festival without the folks. This yr though they seem to be pushing the psychadelic dance tent a bit more, with Beyonds the Wizards Sleeve and the 12hr pysch marathon, so it might be a bit more lively and druggy than the last couple.
cant wait for this, really want to see grizzly bear and bon iver :)
Watching the Glasto coverage has got me really excited about Green Man. The lineup is better than any I can remember. I'm hoping the recent announcement of a Tortoise date in London is no coincidence, after all ATP are putting on Grizzly Bear, Gang Gang and Animal Collective as well.
And I know a signficant number of my age group get very, very excited about this - and not just because its local. Similarly, since moving to uni, I've found that plenty of people my age generally regard GM as one of the best alternative festivals going. I can't say I was particularly struck by the fest having an aging population when I attended last year...
Having a bit of trouble deciding how to get there though. Me and a mate could split the petrol, which would be cheapest, but I've driven back from a festival once before and it's really, really horrible. Can't seem to find any return train or coach tickets less than £50 or so, though, which is mental considering that's half the cost of the entrance fee.
I really really want to go to this...
mainly for Grizzly Bear. I don't know anyone else who wants to go, maybe cos its seen as an oldies festival. Such a shame... :(
It's a lovely mix
of all ages. Sitting round the bonfire http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3293/2775254478_b41cdc58b1.jpg?v=0 is a perfect way to while away the evening. Flagon of traditional scrumpy a must.

If 'youngies' festivals are V, Reading and Glastonbury

We're all going!
Be there. Just bring your flask of soup, lap blanket and a copy of the Readers Digest.
I'm going

I was also there as I will be this year
There was a great mix of acts last year from The National to Caribou to Fuck Buttons & Majik Markers.
But the great thing for me was discovering bands I did not know like The Yellow Moon Band, James Yorkston, and most memorable of all Richard Thompson.
I discovered James Yorkston after that performance too

I went last year and had a brilliant time

Second from bottom row, photo number 2. It would seem that the typical Green Man punter is....Bill Oddie!
Buying a ticket for myself tomorrow

not too old or too young

I'm giving serious thought of going but can't persuade any mates for it.

Well, I'm a 19 year old local to the festival site...

Only a week and a bit to go now, who's definitely going?
I'm going I'm going I'm going!
I'm most excited. Sounds like a lovely festival, perhaps a lot tamer than Reading (the last camping festival I went to).
Really getting excited about this now.
