wow that's a strong start
sweet!
Where did you get that from?
not on the website and no email alerts. But looks utterly plausible.
Email from the press office
Decent start. Might actually see Bob Log this year, and all of an Efterklang set. Whoop for Joe Gideon and the Shark.
woop!
bring it on
Charlie Parr, Howlin Rain
and Steve Earle would be good, not so keen on the rest that i've heard
Dates?
11th-13th September
tsk
atp new york weekend! will i ever get to go to end of the road?
bugger
can't really take days of in my first week at a new sixth form college can I?
Yeah you can bring someone
its a plus one type thing.
If I was going
I'd definately watch William Elliott Whitmore.
Very exciting
Can't wait to see Peter Broderick, his album is my favourite of last year (despite only hearing it in the last week of 2008). Need to sort out a ticket soon, I get the feeling that it'll sell out much more quickly this year than last.
it will
the early bird tickets went very fast
so far no one i'm into on that list
but i'm going to go regardless on the strength of last year, one of the nicest places i've ever been
God, I'd love to go to this
but alas I'm doing a Jamie Summers and *hopefully* going to ATP:NY that weekend.
steve earle..
..is an early blow. god i hate that manly forearm school of roots rock - roll them plaid shirt sleeves and show us yer tatoos and the scars of all those years of substance abuse. if mark lanegan also gets booked, then nick cave, then will oldham... what a hoot we shall have. hopefully there'll be plenty of pop to leaven the earnestness...
tallest man on earth, and bob log III......
woop! a great start.
i'll be there, it was so nice last year
but i'm also going to try and see if i can get the organisers interested in Trouble Books. (theres a load of links in the my music page) I've been trying to get the band over here for ages now and i just think their stuff is perfect sunday stuff, ambienty pop goes down a treat. i can live in hope, ha. anyway i have to wait to feburary i think before i can apply on their behalf.
Still can't believe the early birds were £90
What a bargain!.
Anyway, am pushing for Sufjan and Shins as headliners, plus Fionn Reagan, Chad Vangaalen, M Ward, Winter Olympics in the Bimble Inn, and Buck 65. Ambitious.
how about..
m. ward
jeb loy nichols
dananananaykroyd
jenny lewis / rilo
the leisure society
wheat
my sad captains
shelley short
pelle carlberg
harriet bartlett
...and, er, crosby stills & nash
Teaser email yesterday
We are very excited because next week, on 10th March, we will be announcing another bunch of bands for End of the Road Festival.
I wonder who?
i would very much like
bonny prince billy ,wilco,animal collective
but i cant see wilco playing as they doing green man. also animal collective doing atp ny same weekend. but to be honest im not to fussed who plays. the place is just beautiful. its just a lovely festival.
I would very much like:
M Ward
Fanfarlo
Bonny Prince Billy
Loney, Dear
All touring this year, all perfect for EotR.
I already have Efterklang though, so can't complain!
i'd like some of:
joanna newsom
bonnie prince billy
mount eerie
a silver mt zion
grouper
bright eyes
okkervil river
beachwood sparks (if they are still reunited)
sufjan
beach house
Ô paon
Broken Family Band
self confirmed in a mailout last week.
And maybe it's just me, but given that they're playing Bestival just down the road the same weekend, perhaps Fleet Foxes might be on the way...
Fleet Foxes have got to be doing this
or Green Man havent they?
There's been a rumour
that Fleet Foxes have signed an exclusivity contract with two UK festivals - they've already been announced for Bestival and it's assumed Glastonbury is the other, although who really knows.
The interesting thing is the EOTR Facebook page specifically promises "A VERY AMAZING HEADLINER" in next week's announcement.
I am wary of those sorts of announcements
Amazing is way too subjective. Amazing to me would be Swervedriver. It wont be them.
If they nailed Sufjan though they would basically be hero's wouldn't they?
It's EoTR lineup update announcement day!
Consider me excited.
...and...
Dear Friends,
Woo hoo! Today we have an extra special announcement - the next bunch of bands who will be playing at End of the Road Festival! We are very excited to announce that FLEET FOXES will be headlining on the Saturday, with EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY taking the Friday headline slot.
Here is the full list of artists announced today, in alphabetical order:

OH. MY. GOD.
EITS are PERFECT for EoTR!
Consider me very very moist.
Some good additions
will go see Fleet Foxes and I bloody love The Dodos.
few surprises
but solid stuff. I was expecting Bill Callahan, but there's still time I guess...
So that's the headliners all in then?
Steve Earle
EITS
Fleet Foxes
EITS? Really?
Not bothered about FF either. I'm disappointed.
I think someone said
Steve Earle wasn't headlining (maybe he opens for Fleet Foxes?), so that may be another headliner slot still open. Good choices so far, but I'm still waiting for some leftfield suprises...
EitS is fairly surprising
And yeah, Earle's not headlining AFAIK.
Yeah
Email today said that Sunday headliners would be confirmed soon. My money's on PJ Harvey. Local girl n'all...
Pj Harvey is playing Camp Bestival
and it's being billed as her only UK show this year
Only UK solo show, I think was the careful wording
The press release for The Decemberists single suggested they'd be over in September, but Meloy was on Radio 2 last week and suggested it might be October instead.
More now
Bob Lind
David Thomas Broughton
Darren Hayman
Dirty Projectors
First Aid Kit
Herman Dune
Iain Archer
The Leisure Society
Neko Case
Richmond Fontaine
Tiny Vipers
Wildbirds & Peacedrums
Though still no Sunday headliners, I see...

dirty projectors :)
Wildbirds and peacedrums :)
neko case :(
I'm tempted to go to this again
as I liked it 2 years ago, but I'm still waiting for the Sunday headliner to be someone amazing to give me that final nudge to get a ticket.
pleasetoannouncemoreactsnow
kthnx
Line up...
Is IMO the best of the summer already, and that's without some major announcements to come. Add in the fact that it's the nicest surrounding for a festival i've ever been to and the "cheaper than most" ticket prices and you'd be mad not to go....
ok seriously now
could really use some more act's to be announced. obviously i know that the line up is storming and the festival is possbily literally magical, but i have friends who are foolish and doubtful and harder to convince. please announce more bands so that i can convince them!
(not that you read this website, but i need to broadcast my wishes somewhere damnit!)
unsigned/diy bands confirmed......
Bear Driver, Esben and the Witch, The Hand, Holly Throsby, Huw M, Jess Elva, Soy Un Caballo, Stars of Sunday League and The Tenebrous Liar!
With art imitating life, imitating art
Andrew_wolfpack once came up with the band name Bear Drives Car, when we were coming up with funny old-emo (well the early 2000's version) band names.
I see they are basically on.
band of the festival
no question. Getting right behind them.
Huw M
Just noticed this post - huw m is ACE http://www.myspace.com/huwmm Lovely, lovely stuff.
announcements keep trickling out...
This time it's who's going to be in The Local tent
The Week That Was, Get The Blessing, Chief, Quack Quack, Spokes, The Travelling Band, Emily Barker and the Red Clay Halo, Zun Zun Egui, The Heavy, Stardeath and White Dwarves, Dan Michaelson and the Coastguards, Magic Arm, She Keeps Bees, Alasdair Roberts, AU, Twi the Humble Feather, Laura Gibson, The Pack A.D.
All though that's a pretty decent line-up, it doesn't seem quite enough to fill the programme for three days in that tent, though there may be more to come.
Speaking of which, Sunday headliners still to be announced. Come on ETOR...
Next week, I hear
The Week That Was are going to pack out that tent, aren't they?
This is shaping up rather nicely isn't it
I might make this my festival this year. Peter Broderick is the main pull for me at the moment.
Drum Eyes have self-confirmed
Amazing scenes.
(As have Brakes, Shearwater, Blitzen Trapper and Loney Dear. Possibly an announcement tomorrow.)
I'd take that
that plus an exciting third headliner. Perfect.
A couple more added
"The Horrors have been confirmed as playing the Big Top Stage on the Saturday. Also added to this year's line-up are Blitzen Trapper, Brakes, The Duke & The King (with Simon Felice from The Felice Brothers), Shearwater, Vetiver, Wye Oak, and Loney Dear"
I suppose I should give the Horrors new one a listen...
just when I was expecting that exciting third headliner...
...we get the Horrors. Hmph.
Oh well, at least the others hold out more hope, particularly Shearwater.
well it's not like the horrors are the main stage headliner
anyway, i'm damned excited about shearwater, blitzen trapper and loney dear, and am curious about the duke and the king.
all good news as far as i'm concerned. just got to wait for the third headliner now : )
Good update...
...but I'm still ready for some news on headliners.
Anyone have any thoughts/rumours/preferences for the last two big names? (The website gives EITS, Fleet Foxes, Steve Earle, and Neko Case in big font, so surely there are two big names left)? I reckon any or some combination of: Eels, Decemberists, PJ Harvey, Bonnie Prince Billy et al would be pretty solid. Any other ideas?
PS - Dear EOTR, The Walkmen are playing Electric Picnic the weekend before, and they would be ideal for last year's Sunday evening Constantines slot in the Local. Just a thought...
Sunday headliner update...
Hi there,
I don't go on here too often... but felt obliged to post a little message as 'helsabot' kindly wrote - "Dear EOTR, The Walkmen...", and in response to that I'm afraid that we're actually completely fully booked now. Apart from that special Sunday headliner!
And for all those lovely people out there with suggestions and ideas of who it might be... here's a list of ALL the artists/bands who we have already tried and who can't play for one reason or another (we really have tried our hardest with all of them): Bonnie Prince Billy, The National, Decemberists, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker, Rufus Wainwright, Iron & Wine, Beirut, Arcade Fire, Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Devendra Banhart, Eels, Joanna Newsom, Gillian Welch, Mogwai, Broken Social Scene, Portishead, Thom York, Wilco, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens... and there's probably a few more, whom I can't think of off the top of my head.
We will keep looking, and hopefully soon we'll have a Sunday headliner to announce for you, as that's the only missing piece left of the jigsaw!
Cheers and wishing you a happy summer until September,
Sofia
x
Shame,
I was kind of hoping for Sufjan. Maybe next year, eh?
I'm not seeing My Morning Jacket on that list. Time to give them a call?
Good luck, sounds like a bit of a mare...
thats quite a disapointing post
but thanks for the update
only other big name indie types I can think of: bright eyes, antony and the johnsons, cat power, dinosaur jr, of montreal
modest mouse
yo la tengo
Hi Sofia
Thanks for the update - shame as in my head is was defintely going to be about three of those!
However the only one missing from my prediction is the Shins, who would be perfect, and have a new album nearly ready. Also this would make my girlfrend as excited as when you announced Conor Oberst last year (was quite a scene, she was in the toilet at the time and I shouted it throgh the door).
Ta
Can I chuck in Grizzly Bear while we're at it?
Edward Droste used to get endless Twitter messages requesting they play.
Oh man, I wish Beck was playing...
hadn't thought of that, would be mind blowing. Maybe next year eh?
Can't wait for this year all the same. MMMMMM hot cider.
I'm strangeley relaxed about the sunday headliner now
line up is good enough as it is. Just have a massive indie disco on the main stage instead? Karaoke? keepy-uppy competiton? A talk by Monty Don or something? A man with a hot-cider hose dousing the crowd?
sad news!
i think a lot of people would have hoped for someone from that list. still, plenty of acts out there! are you taking suggestions? ; )
how about:
divine comedy (and maybe a show from his duckworth lewis side project)
flaming lips
hidden cameras
magnetic fields
bill callahan
spiritualized
in fact
forget the rest of those, go listen to the duckworth lewis method on my space and then book neil hannon to do whatever he chooses : )
My Morning Jacket
Would be my perfect Sunday night headliner, one of the few bands who could make me smile like Calexico did last year :)
oh
I thought that maybe the headliner was being held back for effect, but seems like there isn't one yet! All the best in securing that elusive band/artist!
I'd like to see Andrew Bird or M. Ward, but I guess they're not really headliners. Animal Collective? Sonic Youth?
The headliner has been booked
apparently. Don't know how exciting or whathaveyou, they are. but I'm sure we'll find out soon. Hopefully this week.
exciting
i wonder who they got in the end...
apart from Sufjan and Joanna..
..i'm pretty relieved none of those lot could make it .. hell, just go for it and give the Stones a ring, they're sitting around doing nothing, I'm sure Keith would love a low-key little work-out..
how about trying to get this ward/mogis/oberst/james monsters of folk thing?
that would be amazing, it would be just the right time for their album promotion as well
I am guessing at something like...
...Teenage Fanclub or Idlewild. That sort of size/style band.
Would be very happy...
With either of those two, although Teenage Fanclub would probably send me home with the biggest smile.
I hope it's not
Though I'm an old fan, they're a bit tepid these days. Wouldn't mind seeing them there, but they're not headline material...
sunday headliner finally booked apparently
details to follow shortly (i hope)!
and they are a 'fun band' apparently
which, being a chin stroking indie snob, i find worrying ; )
It's the Hold Steady
Result!
interesting
looks like i really have to give these guys a listen now.
Do!
Boys and Girls in America three quid in Fopp. It's a scorcher. And they're just joyous live.
3 english pounds you say?
can't really say no to that!
meh
although given the ones who couldn't do it, I wasn't expecting anything amazing. Still, not that bothered - in all the years I've been to EOTR (since the first one), I think I've only watched a main stage headline band twice.
BRILLIANT!
Very excited for this - The Hold Steady will be great for this, perfect Sunday night headliner and a great choice... Roll on September!
Very very good work everyone at EotR
They are going to totally nail that stage and i can't wait. Well done again.
Excellent stuff.
ok
ticket quandary...
i don't get paid until next Friday and need to buy 3 tickets, does anyone think it may sell out before then?
Site now shows who plays each stage each day
Looking very good to me. Wondering if Jonathan Meiberg might stick around to join Okkervil River on Saturday....
As others have said here, EotR have done a great job with the line-up yet again.
Seemingly not
Shearwater play Leeds and Colchester over the weekend, while Okkervil are in Oxford on the Friday. Who didn't work that one out, then?
I bought tickets last night.
So there are obviously two less left.
With this and Greenman, I'm really looking forward to the late summer.
Gonna get my tick for this in a week
really lookin forward to bob log III and sparrow and the workshop are a fantastic band, highly receommend them if no ones checked them out.
Bought my ticket this weekend.
Anyone travelling from Manchester who wants to carshare drop me a PM as I'll be driving.
I have my ticket!
me and a mate are gonna be headin down, literaly cant wait.
400 tickets left
they say
Great news that it has nearly sold out
I. Can't. Wait.
I want to buy one, I really do
but by the 20th :( i doubt i will get mine
I will be attending
this fine fine festival, roll on september : )
stage times announced!

hmm..
nasty clash between
alela diane and wildbirds and peacedrums - i don't want to miss AD but also don't want to miss WB&PD two years running.
also, charlie parr is playing twice and clashing with david thomas broughton the first time and fleet foxes the second. i reckon it'll be fleet foxes that has to lose out...
oh, and it looks like jarvis is doing a dj set. one chance an impromptu late night gig?
Clashes for me are:
Friday: Twi the Humble Feather/Dirty Projectors
Saturday: Okkervil River/Efterklang
I've got quite a lot of running around on the Saturday, but the the size of the site makes it pretty manageable.
Saying this my plans will probably go pie-shaped by about 8 on the Friday evening...
mmmmm.. pie-shaped......
the okkervil/efterklang thing is annoying. i reckon efterklang win though. they were quite awesome at field day last year. by the end of their set it felt like the entire station had been turned into a monumental percussion instrument of some kind.
Just made my Definitely Seeing list with stage times
This is going to be the best weekend evereverever (since last year)
Stage times spreadsheet
A user on the efestivals forums created a spreadsheet of stage times. Link is http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/14/2543221/eotr2009.xls
(Cheers, Paul B 123)
It's SOLD OUT!
Howlin' Rain have pulled out
replaced in the post-Horrors slot by... Josh T Pearson!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh HELL yes...
(sorry, didn't mean to break the thread with the enthusiasm)
that's quite alright
it's a pretty fair response. this. is. awesome. news.
yeah.
I <3 JTP. Getting properly excited now.
That is the best line-up news *ever*
Hmm
If anyone has a spare ticket to sell, that would be most delightful.
anyone stewarding at this?
im doing it by myself, it may turn out to be the worst idea ive ever had
i'm not
but a lot of my friends are. have you had your shifts through yet? did you get any bad clashes?
yeah got an email earlier this week
im not sure about clashes because im not sure when the bands are on, think i'll be missing EITS as im on the late friday shift, but all my shifts are in the main stage/gardens area anyway so I should be able to hear them and probably see them from where I am. I dont mind so long as I get to see Josh T pearson, anyone know where/when he is on?
i'm working it by myself too...
really looking forward to it :)
Saturday 22:45 – 23:45 according to the official billing
http://www.endoftheroadfestival.com/pdf/eotr-band-schedule.pdf
please please please let me get what i want.
what i want is a ticket to this festival. i cant miss it. i literally cant. please remember me if/when you hear of a spare becoming available
i would like two tickets for this if anyone has any spare.
thankyou.
matt.
Go to the website
they will try and sort you out direct.
i did do,
but i figured i'd try this too. can't hurt.
i'll be driving down from stoke on the wednesday night....
potentially via walsall, bristol, bath etc if anyone wants a lift?
might have 1 space for the way back too.
If anyone is driving to eotr from the Devon area
my boyfriend and I would be really grateful of a lift. We live in Exeter but could potentially travel to meet you elsewhere in Devon. Some friends of ours are taking all our camping gear in their van so we wouldn't take up much room and would be happy to contribute your petrol costs. Thanks! Kat
The ATP film is going to be shown in the little white lies
film tent, see www.ourtrueintent.com for info
Excellent news
been dying to see it. Wish they'd see sense and put some grabber machines and a lazy river in at Larmer Tree Gardens, then it really would be perfect.
yeah!
i missed it at primavera, as my friends got really wrapped up in the champions league win.
chrismukkah came early
i have 3 spare tickets, any takers?
How much are you selling them for? I just live down the road (end of the road.. ho ho ho) and know a lot of nearby locals who would like to go if it's not too much.
spare ticket, face value, no postage
and i'll send it recorded too. any takers? PM me...
This week?
Bloody hell.
recommendations?
i'm aiming for ohbijou, shearwater, dirty projectors, explosions..., josh t pearson, efterklang, zun zun egui, steve earle, and the dodos.
other than fleet foxes and the hold steady am i missing anyone completely and utterly un-missable?
Vetiver
You are missing Vetiver.
why won't this week ever end?
Can we not just start EOTR three days early?
It is ridiculous isn't it?
Tuesday lunchtime. TUESDAY! For gods sake this has to end. I have just done my holiday notes, all my filing and have nothing else to do to fill my time until leaving on friday lunchtime. What a joke.
I even stared at the site plan for a bit and thought about the fun that awaits. And the weather is looking worryingly positive too.
Flippin tuesday. Piss.
Mummers have pulled out
"Tragic and unforseen circumstances". Euros Childs replaces.
Spare ticket for sale - half price
Very late notice I realise but one of my friends can't make it due to illness.
Anyone want to take the spare off my for half face value, ie £55?
If so, PM me with your name and mobile number
brilliant festival
highs: atp film (the little white lies tent was fantastic), explosions in the sky, efterklang, the-take-in-your-own-booze-policy, the garden stage and secret garden area
lows: middle-class children called tarquin, the hawley/cocker dj set
i thought the kids..
..were just great (tho' they did all seem to be called Molly & Dylan) - really added to the place, cool-looking and into it ... the hawley & cocker dj set was also ace, retrotastic and excellently bangin' beats-free...
i see what you're saying...
- i appreciated the fact that it was a family orientated festival, it was probably the attitude of the parents that was the thorn...
- i liked the material they played, it was just that the mixing was TERRIBLE. i know that is not where their trade lies, but it annoys me when bands turn up to dj and just look like they're lost.
there was an awful lot
of punters just standing and watching Jarv' and Hawley dj like it was a gig or something, which was super annoying. Not sure if that was the DJs (not very good at it) or the crowd's (don't really go out dancing, wowed by famous people) fault. Still, best weekend ever.
Didn't mind there being loads of little Alfie and Jocastas knocking around. Most of them seemed well put to work collecting glasses for money. Take note all other festivals.
review
After last year's superb weather (a bit rainy on the Saturday but it made lovely rainbows), excellent line-up (The Mountain Goats, Jeffrey Lewis, Mercury Rev) and all the wonderful people I met whilst stewarding, this year's End of the Road festival (the fourth) had a lot to live up to.
Once again I was stewarding with the glum notion of a couple of unsociable shifts on the Saturday and Sunday, this was tempered by being placed in the Main Stage/Secret Garden area; so I'd hopefully be able to hear some bands. Another sore point was that this time around stewards weren't given free programms, and as I'd been relatively unprepared (my presence at the festival was not guaranteed until late in the day) I had no band schedule, so had to keep stealing glances until I finally blagged a programme on the last day. Saying that though, the line-up this year was solid but didn't really hold many 'essentials', which is no bad thing, the quality and care taken by the organisers - and their damn fine taste - means that this is one of the perfect festivals to amble around and discover musical gems that may have passed you by. Indeed, that's what I planned to do.
http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk/content/content_detail.php?id=3710&type=Features
Absolutely incredible weekend
One of the best ever, really can't speak too highly of what a great festival that was. Well done everyone, and for the record I would happly pay £20 if it meant the organisers definitely didn't increase the capacity.
Ta
They've sold out of early birds already
Simon's already said (this is Simon the organiser, not me, obvs) that the capacity won't be increasing, though they'll need to look at the Tipi size again.
Beautiful...
The grounds are perfect, I just can't imagine going to a more chilled out festival where just wondering around is a pleasure in itself.
The line-up was good if not spectacular, I saw plenty of awesome sets yet missed a truely jaw dropping one (though Dirty Projectors, The Pack A.D. and Shearwater came close).
Next year the EOTR dudes need The National headlining (as well as Wolf Parade and Animal Collective).
this seems like a good starting point for a who should play next year tangent
joanna newsom playing there would pretty much be the best thing ever, and mount eerie playing in the woods would be perfect
There's an interesting debate on the forum
about whether, not counting SFA as they've already done so, a British band would be suited to headline, which proves a) there are people who think Turin Brakes are a big enough draw and b) there really aren't, are there? Belle & Sebastian if they ever return might, Portishead have been mentioned, and after that you draw a blank.
Mogwai were approached to play
and they could certainly do it. On a slight tangent, I really hope they keep with the slightly broader line up rather than just alt.country. Quite frankly a day of that stuff is fantastic, but to end it with something beefier and more party is perfect. EITS and Hold Steady were great in that regard, and ended those days perfectly.
The further we get from EotR the more I am inclined to say it was the best festival I have ever been to. Just perfect.
