of the vs Fans weekend is giving me goose skin!
I mean. No bands that have ever played ATP UK before?!
And what I love is that (within certain parameters) it's in OUR hands!
Nice work sir!
...fingers crossed none of my final year important deadlines/exams clash with it. Missed the last vs The Fans because of stupid education, don't want to miss another one.
I meant, how does one go about it? Is it an online form? Ticket holders only? Is there a strict list of bands that are applicable for the or is it every band for themselves? Apologies if it answers all this somewhere. I'm dumb. S.m.r.t!
people who buy a ticket will be sent the link to a voting form. they get to vote for 10 bands.
you can vote for anyone assuming they havent played atp uk before.
I'm excited by the Sleep reformation and I reckon ATP will pick some decent acts but I'm really worried the fans are gonna pick, as you say "utter shit". I'm gonna be an interested observer of the voting list and who begins to get picked, fans side, before I decide if I'm gonna commit to this.
ATP, you have made an old man VERY happy indeed.
I actually damn near shed a tear when I read this.
Now, is it too much to ask for Robert Wyatt performing Rock Bottom?
People have said Kraftwerk before, but has anybody ever given any thought to the Pet Shop Boys?
It's not as ludicrous as it sounds, you know, they did a university tour around the time of Release that had no real stage show so they *can* do it on the cheap. They're as good as New Order, you know, when you think about it.
I guess the simple answer is I don't really want to waste a vote (and potentially see others waste theirs) on something that's considered a total non-starter.
Mind you, my other initial thoughts (Half Man Half Biscuit and Carcass) probably fall into the same bracket.
from our chalet at least. I could be totally wrong of course, but if you've ever heard Nigel Blackwell talking about how they decide which gigs to play I think there is a good chance they would fancy it as well.
ok lets have it out! whens the line up going to be released?? ;) only we are but humble folk and can only afford one ATP so close together, thus in your opinion which one will be better/ more friendly? Breeders / Vs The Fans (considering all the greats seem to have already played ATP before) thus by default the Breeders would seem the better option and if 4AD have anything to do with it, we may hope for Deerhunter to be on the bill?

One question: it says that you can only vote for one band once. Does that mean if you vote for them in the first round of voting, you can't vote in the second round?

simply get to vote once - if it is like the 2007 event. For that one, loads of people didn't vote until close to the event due to laziness - which is why they have different voting rounds.
i'm not sure your explanation that the internet's 'being irritating' is wholly convincing Jamie. Maybe our votes should count double to make up for the inconvenience of having to check our emails every five minutes for the last 24 hours.
that those that booked first and loyally are still yet to vote but had we booked later we would be straight in... as it says on the website "the earlier you vote the more your vote will mean". Having excitedly counted down to voting for 2 weeks, it is more than a little disappointing to be still, as said previously, checking my e-mails every 5 minutes 2 days later.
Although that does sound a bit whiney, I did pay a lot of money to get involved and should have been able to do that by now.
Although, i don't think our votes will be devalued as they're tallied once a week i think (hope). Let's hope it doesn't take atp more than a week to figure out how to send an email.
... it was a dream.
Please can everyone be aware that he never performs live, having done one tiny live performance almost by accident in recent years, and before that the last time was singing Shipbuilding on Whistle Test in 1981 (or maybe 82).
It is not going to happen.
Sadly.
Still haven't received any log-in info for voting. Hmmm. But when i do! It sure would be grand to hear Jason Lytle's new and old material- i'm sure he'd do it - and he still plays grandaddy stuff live. Lets make it happen!
so yes the voting emails for people who bought with seetickets have not gone out yet - we expect they will today - and we will advise on here as soon as we have more info - and don't worry, votes will not be counted until we know everyone has been contacted and had time to vote.
thanks for your understanding.
Freaks and Geeks, The Larry Sanders Show, Justice League unlimited Cartoon, Alexi Sayle stand up, Mark Lamar stand up, Desmonds, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Incredibles, Face off.
Band vote:
My bloody valentine
Stellastar
Jeff Lewis
Coral
Doug Stanhope
Idlewild playing Captain and Hope is Important in full
Ballboy
British Sea Power
Jarvis Cocker
Greg Dulli (Preferably Afghan Whigs but anything will do…)
all is ok now Jamie, just voted. Sorry for being on your case, but it was goddam frustrating checking emails every five minutes like some obsessive compulsive maniac. Right, i've got some cleaning to do ...
Ulrich Schnauss
Album Leaf
God is an Astronaut
Retribution Gospel Choir
Woven Hand
13+God
Sufjan Stevens
Dead Texan
Johnson Mountain Boys
Rusalnaia
Damn that was difficult. Something for everyone I hope.
Still, it's maybe a bit too melodic. I could do with some noise. Fuck Buttons are well out of the voting owing to multiple previous appearances, and MBV I've been to twice this year, so if someone more knowledgeable than me wants to bung in some noise, and possibly a bit of heavy drone or a bit of industrial as well, be my guest. Also, anything Japanese has got to be good: Envy, Mono, World's End Girlfriend and OMG I almost forgot Boris were awesome as well. So please someone, something similar would be good.
ATPs should be all about variety and surprise.
I can't wait. Really. I'm quivering with anticipation.
Still no word from ATP since the last update on saturday. Stargreen called on Friday saying they wanted my permission to give ATP my details so they could email the voting stuff. I think that has been the hold up with us unlucky ones who bought tickets through Stargreen. Anyway, that should be sorted now, so what's the delay?!
What's going on here then? Aren't we meant to get an updated chart at the start of each week, if not also news on whether the bands nominated last week are in or ixnay?
I'll post it here so that people can complain about it :-)
FANS STRIKE BACK CHART TWO:
1 Kraftwerk
2 The Knife
3 The Flaming Lips
4 Flight of the Conchords
5 Electric Wizard
6 MF Doom
7 Eels
8 Jesus and Mary Chain
9 M83
10 MGMT
11 Wolf Parade
12 Jesu
13 The Magnetic Fields
14 Robert Wyatt
15 Arcade Fire
16 Future of The Left
17 Jonathan Richman
18 Red Sparowes
19 Dan Deacon
20 My Morning Jacket
21 Death Cab For Cutie
22 Harvey Milk
23 Marnie Stern
24 Belle and Sebastian
25 Crystal Castles
26 Killing Joke
27 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
28 Tom Waits
29 Bjork
30 Gravenhurst
can people stop voting for Flight of the conchords and MGMT please, it's not fucking glastonbury. tits. other than that, not a bad list for 2 weeks in!
Could you not have explained to Kraftwerk that the alternative is electric wizard and would they be willing to make a sacrafice, 'take one for the team' as they say - i.e. a paycut?
Poor School
Heavy Winged
Flower/Corsano duo
Sir Richard Bishop
Psychedelic Horseshit
Gown
Jack Rose
Ex-Cocaine
Northampton Wools
+ one more to mull over
I've noticed how removed my list is from the current one.
See my dilemma about whether I should go to this ATP.
1 The Dead Texan
2 The Magnetic Fields
3 The Dodos
4 Max Richter
5 Lindstrøm
6 I Am Robot And Proud
7 Half Japanese
8 Sir Richard Bishop
9 M83
10 Jucifer
but I'm thinking my list might look a little something like this:
1) Harvey Milk
2) Sir Richard Bishop
3) Chrome
4) Hercules & Love Affair
5) Crystal Antlers
6) Aesop Rock
7) Queens of the Stone Age
8) Tomahawk
9) Spank Rock
10) Afghan Whigs
Does anyone else like that kind of thing and want to get a chalet with me?
Amon Tobin
Fugazi (maybe one year they'll be lured out....Fugazi AND Jesus Lizard does sound a bit too perfect though)
Ataxia
Faust
Pivot
Beck
Elbow
Burial
My Morning Jacket
Remember Remember
I'm proper gutted that Holy Fuck have been nabbed for the Breeders weekend!
1 Fugazi (Joe Lally seemed to enjoy himself at MP v M ATP)
2 Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3 Eagles Of Death Metal
4 iLiKETRAiNS
5 For a minor reflection
6 Wedding Present
7 Bob Mould
8 Buzzcocks
9 White Denim
10 Reigning Sound
I remember them being asked to play the Autechre one too, but they didnt "realise they needed passports" to leave the States so their slot was cancelled at the last minute. So Sunn O))) who were supoosed to actually open up the whole event on Friday afternoon took their place, RIGHT before Aphex Twin absolutley rinsed it for 2 hours. Job Fucking Done. From Drone to Gabber! Party. x
...so the fact that the new list is pretty dissimilar to the last list suggests that it's changing as people add new votes...which is fine (and reminds me that I've got to get my 3 chalet mates to get off their arses and vote)...but I also wonder if some bands have been removed from the list because they are being recruited to the ATP side.
In particular, I'm either very sad that Gravenhurst are off the list, or very happy that they (or more likely he) is about to be announced on the ATP side.
Jamie - can you give us some idea of the numbers of votes these people are getting, and what the total capacity of Minehead is? The psephologist in me is itching to know.
hypothetically, ATP had noticed that Jim White was in the UK in April/May, and he hypothetically appeared at Minehead, both to do a set and to talk a bit about "Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus", which would co-incidentally be one of the films hypothetically playing in the cinema?
It would be awesome to have Q&A sessions, talks and workshops(?) from the curators and artists at ATP. Warren Ellis made such an effort to connect with the crowd at the Dirty 3 ATP. More curators should be encouraged to communicate with the crowd, introduce acts, talk about their selections, open/close the weekend etc. Makes for a better weekend I reckon!
something akin to what Supersonic did with their Cinema space last year would be great. One of the disappoints I had with the Pitchfork ATP was that they didn't seem to have any presence there and some Q&A/talks would have been perfect.
Okay we still haven't got confirmations back from My Bloody Valentine, Flight Of The Conchords or Electric Wizard. If we don't hear back from them by Monday next week we will be moving on
Pavement say they might reform in 2009 for their 20th birthday. I assume they'll be asked. And I assume they'll be too expensive / not ready. Maybe next year!
1. Andrew W.K.
2. POLYSICS
3 iLiKETRAiNS
4. The Mae Shi
5. DJ Scotch Egg
6. Bright Eyes
7. Future Of The Left
8. Gay For Johnny Depp
9. The Wu-Tang Clan
10. Alec Empire
Otherwise you have to eat greasy fast food nonesense for a whole weekend! I mean one night of bad food is ok but after a weekend your body will hate you!
Also you get a living/sitting room in self catering...... which is nice. We did beds only once. NEVER AGAIN! For the little extra you get so much more!
1 Harvey Milk
2 Neurosis
3 Wolves in the Throne Room
4 Clipse
5 The Afghan Whigs
6 Aesop Rock
7 Andrew WK
8 Oxbow
9 Sic Alps
10 Flying Lotus

5. Early Day Miners
6. Josephine Foster
7. Rykarda Parasol
8. Throw Me The Statue
9. Windsor For The Derby
10. Russian Circles
I'm sure I will have to rely on the 25-50-75-100 selection method for any of these to even make a chance of getting in. Other people can vote for the obvious choices and turn it into a popularity contest.
wow, thats really great you loved him so much. sadly i think even if some other people make the inspired choice of picking him he'll be in his ma exams and unavailable.
on the future of the left forum, it looks like someone from the band was asking on the forum for people to vote for them to play, because they wanted to use it as a place to launch the new album. So i guess they'll say yes!

"you can only vote for acts that have never played a UK ATP before... at least for the first round of voting."
Which implies that the second round would allow you to, if there was one.
I'm all for the initial rule about new bands playing. But i think for the entire event it's far too restrictive. Not every band on that played-before list is like Shellac etc.
Eels
Ove Naxx
Dan Deacon
Cats in Paris
Jarvis Cocker
Rolo Tomassi

Its really very good. I'd automatically (and wrongly) assumed Marnie Stern would be a dull singer songwriter and several other bands were a lot more varied than I thougth they'd be.
I really, REALLY have to find a way of convincing people I know to go to this...
well, even Broder could play on his own and call it 'Fog'.
seems he's been recording on his own again.

I thought I may as well post my voting lists here (what I can remember of them, anyway) so that I can get laughed out of this forum on my first day with my first post.
In no order:
BANDS:
Crystal Castles
Max Tundra
2 Many DJs
Yamo
Beastie Boys (yes, I know this would NEVER happen)
Chemical Brothers (see above)
TV/FILM:
Interstella 5555 (Daft Punk music videos/film)
Spaced (TV series)
Nosferatu
Metropolis
The CUBE (Jim Henson tv feature, check it out)
I can't remember who else I voted for.
You may now commence the pointing and/or laughing.
absolutely gutted that they are at 99. For a second I thought I might at last have a gringo band on the bill! would be lovely to have more british acts represented too.
if you want to be on a waiting list to get one of a bunch of 2 berth chalets that were previously held back for production purposes, email feedback@atpfestival.com
But it would be nice to know if it's not going to be this week for example. So i'm not pointlessly checking the site every half an hour.
Especially annoying that all the updates seem to be about AC in London or yet another Spiritualized london show when i live at the other end of the country!
The FAQ states "Tickets should be received at the latest by approximately one month before the event". It is less than a month away now, and we don't have our tickets, but no one else seems to have mentioned it yet (bought through seetickets). Has anyone expecting tickets in the post received them yet?
Anybody used this service before? £40 for cooked dinners/breakfasts seems within reason, though obviously not if the food is garbage (I'm not expecting Blumenthal concoctions or anything, but you know).
As I'm not, I really can't wait to get down to Minehead.
I just find it a wee bit puzzling that Andrew WK confirming could blow the budget.
We had offers out to Passion Pit, Gang Gang Dance and Autechre at once, none of them accepted but Andrew WK accepts and blows the budget? Is he a greedy bastard? Just seems strange that booking him would be the equivilant of booking the 3 above?
Seems to me that maybe ATP were just struggling to find bands who were available?
Surely ATP have contacts and could even choose a band or 2 themselves if there is nobody on the fans side who can confirm?
when it's clearly not a budget issue (especially given that "Andrew W.K. special solo show" sounds an awful lot like "Andrew W.K. on the cheap"). The only way he's worth those three bands put together is if he charges an exorbitant fee, which would make mugs of all of us.
Reasonably happy with the scheduling in terms of overlaps/conflicts etcs. But I really wish Pink Mountaintops weren't on at exactly the same time as Liam Finn. It's pretty unlikely that someone who wanted to see one of these bands wouldnt want to see the other.
Still, apart from that gripe, I'm pretty damn excited.
The new albums by Sleepy Sun, Pink Mountaintops and Grizzly Bearare so good. The latter, especially, will be joy to hear live.
No Pontins?
This makes me very sad indeed.
Sorry for the negativity... Um, Grails, woo!
No Camber Sands though. Lame.

DEEEEEEEEEEVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Q. ARE WE NOT MEN?!?
A. WE ARE DEVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've already posted in all the other threads
but this is definitely the best first announcement of any ATP. Grails, Devo and Sleep! GRAILS! I've wanted to see them for so so long.
The potential
of the vs Fans weekend is giving me goose skin!
I mean. No bands that have ever played ATP UK before?!
And what I love is that (within certain parameters) it's in OUR hands!
Nice work sir!
sleep! AND devo!!
oh fuck .... i was hoping not to have to fork out for any of the spring atp's .... sleep will play a load of other dates, shirley?
no
its a one time only never to be repeated reformation
Can't Wait!
Which one will I go to?
If I go this weekend who will be my fan pick?
Decisions decisions.
So, so excited about Devo!
Blates voting for Robert Wyatt.
I'll vote....
for Kevin Ayers if anyone can get him to play live again!
This one is currently in the lead...
...fingers crossed none of my final year important deadlines/exams clash with it. Missed the last vs The Fans because of stupid education, don't want to miss another one.
How exactly
do you get people to vote for your band to play?
be really good?
He's got that one covered
i think they've got a fair chance of getting voted for actually
Sorry
I meant, how does one go about it? Is it an online form? Ticket holders only? Is there a strict list of bands that are applicable for the or is it every band for themselves? Apologies if it answers all this somewhere. I'm dumb. S.m.r.t!
all the info is on atpfestival.com
people who buy a ticket will be sent the link to a voting form. they get to vote for 10 bands.
you can vote for anyone assuming they havent played atp uk before.
we
voted for you david.
all of us.

Young Marble Giants perform Colossal Youth
and Antipop Consortium
added to the ATP side of the lineup today
Antipop Consortium supported Public Enemy right?
yes sir
I'm sold
this is guaranteed to be awesome even if the fans end up voting for utter shit.
I dunno
I'm excited by the Sleep reformation and I reckon ATP will pick some decent acts but I'm really worried the fans are gonna pick, as you say "utter shit". I'm gonna be an interested observer of the voting list and who begins to get picked, fans side, before I decide if I'm gonna commit to this.
See my hundreds of entires passim re: YMG
ATP, you have made an old man VERY happy indeed.
I actually damn near shed a tear when I read this.
Now, is it too much to ask for Robert Wyatt performing Rock Bottom?
Also
can we ensure YMG are not on the cavernous main stage?
that's
pretty sweet
ATP
I really cant wait to see Sleep.
never see them back in the day, so....
Sleepy Sun confirmed for our side of the lineup.
they rock.
Loudon wainwright III
Is this pure fantasy on my part? He hasn't played before.
Calling! ATP festival Up North!
Can they do an ATP up north? These travelling costs are a killer!!!
Question for Jamie Summers
And, sod it, the rest of you to consider as well.

Mind you, my other initial thoughts (Half Man Half Biscuit and Carcass) probably fall into the same bracket.
i think
a few people have considered half man half biscuit as a vote actually.
I like pet shop boys, but there are too many other bands i prefer.
I would say no vote is a wasted vote anyway. If they are big enough to play, go for it.
HMHB definitely getting votes
from our chalet at least. I could be totally wrong of course, but if you've ever heard Nigel Blackwell talking about how they decide which gigs to play I think there is a good chance they would fancy it as well.
Pet Shop Boys and HMHB
...I like the way you're thinking.
Talk talk?
Pity Rosy Red Rash are out of the voting owing to previous appearances.

okay well don't worry everyone will get them,
its just the internets being irritating and we're trying to get it sorted as soon as we can.
ok
Only impatient throguh sheer enuthisiasm:)
One question: it says that you can only vote for one band once. Does that mean if you vote for them in the first round of voting, you can't vote in the second round?
you only vote once

If anyone has a spare vote they don't know what to do with...

I'm voting for 2 (maybe 3) of those.
So hold on a minute...

- Andrew
In terms of noise,
ATP should get Ryoji Ikeda's full A/V setup over. It looks completely off the charts.
Just googled this
You're mad. And beautiful. If this happens, I promise I will get precisely as drunk as is necessary to appreciate it.
If you want a great Japanese band
i suggest Asa Chang & JunRay. In a world of their own - there's nothing else even close to sounding like them.
BANDS
Gotta vote for GENGHIS TRON after an amazing gig at the underworld on Saturday. Also THE KNIFE would be brill.
So...
Just wondering Jamie, any ideas when we get our first voting chart?
Hopefully not before i get my log-in info!
THE JESUS FUCKING LIZARD
and CAVE SINGERS confirmed.
and all the stargreen/lastminute folks should have your voting forms!
Well ATP have done their bit
Over to you, fans.
Choose wisely.
just been listening to Grails
for the first time. Pretty awesome no?
also, what's the best Jesus Lizard album to get? thanksxz
Goat
but they're all superb
jamie!
when we vote do we have to use all 10 votes at once? i love asking you stuff.
yes
you do.
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!
I HAVE TO GO TO THIS!
Jebus!
i'm surprised
this announcement hasn't caused more of a jizz fest or has everyone got their keys a little sticky..?
Votes!
Are all the votes of equal value, or does the band you put at #1 get more priority to the band you put at #10?
equal
deposit scheme is ending today folks
jamie!
http://www.drownedinsound.com/community/boards/festivals/4140437#r2606638

rad!!!!!!!!!!
voting
I'm confused about this voting lark. So, I've voted once - is that it now or will I be able to vote in other rounds later on?
last time it happened
there was another voting round towards the end to fill some of the spaces.
Flight of the concords on there i see
Wouldn't Adam and joe doing song wars be 1000 times better?
are they going to be
using the Pavilion for this one or using the same setup as NBC?
Yes
I heartily agree. FoC ain't all that
So...
New chart tomorrow?
exciting!
i did my votes this week so I'll be interested to see if any of them sneak up the list
no news today then!?
So uh...
What's going on here then? Aren't we meant to get an updated chart at the start of each week, if not also news on whether the bands nominated last week are in or ixnay?
Jamie?
I'm guessing last weekend's NBC festival
has taken priority over counting votes. Which is fair enough.
I'm sure normal service will resume shortly.
should have an update for you very soon
(sorry!)
you'd better be announcing something megA!
Two new bands announced!
I beat Jamie!
yupyup check
out the news story for full info
If we take mbv track record
you'll be waiting for that reply from them for a very long time.

http://www.atpfestival.com/atp/Events/TheFansStrikeBack/News/View/0812171446.php
Jamie
Could you not have explained to Kraftwerk that the alternative is electric wizard and would they be willing to make a sacrafice, 'take one for the team' as they say - i.e. a paycut?
Hmm, just wondering who I'd vote for.
Would probably be something like this:
Poor School
Heavy Winged
Flower/Corsano duo
Sir Richard Bishop
Psychedelic Horseshit
Gown
Jack Rose
Ex-Cocaine
Northampton Wools
+ one more to mull over
I've noticed how removed my list is from the current one.
See my dilemma about whether I should go to this ATP.
my friend surprised me last night and has bought our tickets!
woooooooooooooooooooo!

Hey Jamies
Any pre X-mas fan vote news likely or is going to be on the 29th Dec now with the next chart?

1) Harvey Milk
2) Sir Richard Bishop
3) Chrome
4) Hercules & Love Affair
5) Crystal Antlers
6) Aesop Rock
7) Queens of the Stone Age
8) Tomahawk
9) Spank Rock
10) Afghan Whigs
Does anyone else like that kind of thing and want to get a chalet with me?
ha, that is a pretty good list
and i am thinking of going and i have no one to go with.
so yeah if you want me i'm there.

Early New Year I believe...
It's christmas! let them rest!
Im quite concerned the words...
Earth, Clark, Sun Kil Moon, Cephalic Carnage, Starkey, arent being mentioned in the votes. x
earth have already played
Ah yeah thats right, they played the Portishead one yeah...?
I remember them being asked to play the Autechre one too, but they didnt "realise they needed passports" to leave the States so their slot was cancelled at the last minute. So Sunn O))) who were supoosed to actually open up the whole event on Friday afternoon took their place, RIGHT before Aphex Twin absolutley rinsed it for 2 hours. Job Fucking Done. From Drone to Gabber! Party. x
any news
On wether we will get an update today?
pretty please?:)
4 new bands already on atp site my friend...
What about a chart update?
Isn't it time for more fan vote invitations?

here we go then:
http://www.atpfestival.com/atp/Events/TheFansStrikeBack/News/View/0901061438.php
Interesting...
...so the fact that the new list is pretty dissimilar to the last list suggests that it's changing as people add new votes...which is fine (and reminds me that I've got to get my 3 chalet mates to get off their arses and vote)...but I also wonder if some bands have been removed from the list because they are being recruited to the ATP side.
Thanks
Andrew
we're not removing ones we're going to pick.
i dont personally have the number of votes available i'm afraid.
total capacity of minehead is around 5500 from what i remember.
I'm wondering if...
hypothetically, ATP had noticed that Jim White was in the UK in April/May, and he hypothetically appeared at Minehead, both to do a set and to talk a bit about "Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus", which would co-incidentally be one of the films hypothetically playing in the cinema?
Curator talks......
AND.......
would be a much better use of space than the hit n miss, poorly attended, 4 in the afternoon 'DJ' sets in the Irish bar etc.
Agree 100%,
something akin to what Supersonic did with their Cinema space last year would be great. One of the disappoints I had with the Pitchfork ATP was that they didn't seem to have any presence there and some Q&A/talks would have been perfect.
monday....
is getting mighty close :s
what happens on monday?
quote:
Okay we still haven't got confirmations back from My Bloody Valentine, Flight Of The Conchords or Electric Wizard. If we don't hear back from them by Monday next week we will be moving on
I asked Electric Wizard...
...and they said they have confirmed.
cool
was it by email or in person they told you?
email...
i'm not cool enough to know them in person :P
not much noisy stuff voted for [yet]
you people disappoint me
Can more people vote for Grace Jones please?
Thanks.
If I could vote any ten
They'd be:
Project Mork
Earth
Venetian Snares
Kunt & The Gang
The Bays
Daniel Johnston
Napalm Death
KJ Sawka
Sunn O)))
Zeke
I'd swap any of the above for a reformation of Man Or Astroman? though!
i was talking to someone about them
recently, would LOVE man or astroman to play, they actually reformed last year for a show in america.
earth, sunn and daniel johnston have all played before
I've already voted for Man or Astro-man?!
seriously, the only one of my favourite bands who I've never seen live...
But seeing as four of those
have played before, instead I'd have:
Underworld
Ghost
Wu-Tang Clan
This Bike Is A Pipebomb
okay
ELECTRIC WIZARD added, more info and chalet update here:
http://www.atpfestival.com/atp/Events/TheFansStrikeBack/News/View/0901120907.php
So..
Pavement say they might reform in 2009 for their 20th birthday. I assume they'll be asked. And I assume they'll be too expensive / not ready. Maybe next year!
My 10....
1. Andrew W.K.
2. POLYSICS
3 iLiKETRAiNS
4. The Mae Shi
5. DJ Scotch Egg
6. Bright Eyes
7. Future Of The Left
8. Gay For Johnny Depp
9. The Wu-Tang Clan
10. Alec Empire

AWK FTW
All my chalet-mates have voted for him too.
beirut
announced for the 9th (nme)
the
last update hinted that there would be a line up update today. Is that still the case or is next monday more likely?
ephel duath
would be the canine's..i did vote for 'em
i'm pretty excited about spiritualized at this
as i wasnt madly keen on the electric mainline show a few years back, but all the reviews are saying that they were incredible at atp australia
Neurosis
why was nobody yet voting for Neurosis? Strange enough they didn't play ATP yet.. so I did that now :)
any news today!? borrrrrrrriiing
new chart due on monday
so guesssing any updates on the four offers sent out will happen then?
hoping for m83 today!!!
it does seem
worryingly quiet though... Maybe not today now?
first weekly...now fortnightly.....what's next!

(make that wednesday, sorry)
So
Whens the update? today still on?
going to be tomorrow now
once we have confirmation on some artists, as we want to do them at the same time. (sorry again!)
i want a refund!
i really hope that my votes are in the chart though...
Guess who's going now?
YEAH. The lineup is about to get SHIT HOT.
As soon as my good friend Mark rings me to confirm
I shall be ordering tickets. He was too skint to go, then Tony Hart died.
I'm officially excited now...
Just ordered
I'm going to wait until the list tomorrow to vote, I'm going to have a got think tonight. HOORAY
wooohoo
tony loves me still
Wonder who'll be announced today?
I hope its the Au Pairs.
It won't be...
m83, marnie stern confirmed

FLOLgazi again?
They'll say no. Like they do every time.
I'm definitely voting soon. HARVEY HARVEY HARVEY
SELF CATERING OR NO?
i'm buying today and dunno whether to be stingy and not get self catering???? yay or nay people??? there will be 4 of us.
Self catering all the way........
Otherwise you have to eat greasy fast food nonesense for a whole weekend! I mean one night of bad food is ok but after a weekend your body will hate you!
Also you get a living/sitting room in self catering...... which is nice. We did beds only once. NEVER AGAIN! For the little extra you get so much more!
woop
am gonna get self catering. it's only an extra tenner each and that way we can have partytimes.
Hi
Please could more people vote for Micachu & the Shapes / Abe Vigoda

He hasn't, has he?

4. d_rradio
5. Early Day Miners
6. Josephine Foster
7. Rykarda Parasol
8. Throw Me The Statue
9. Windsor For The Derby
10. Russian Circles
I'm sure I will have to rely on the 25-50-75-100 selection method for any of these to even make a chance of getting in. Other people can vote for the obvious choices and turn it into a popularity contest.
Talons'
wow, thats really great you loved him so much. sadly i think even if some other people make the inspired choice of picking him he'll be in his ma exams and unavailable.
Unfortunately
I missed his gig when he played in London the other day. I can live in hope ...
done!
Harvey Milk
Flying Lotus
!!!
Cath & Phil Tyler
Neurosis
Clipse
Eagles of Death Metal
Mi Ami

ISLANDS!
Fucked Up
Shitty Limits
Fischerspooner
The Rentals
The Faint
The Dauntless Elite
well
on the future of the left forum, it looks like someone from the band was asking on the forum for people to vote for them to play, because they wanted to use it as a place to launch the new album. So i guess they'll say yes!
well

I notice that The Knifes offshoot band Fever Ray
Are touring in May in their native land. Any chance they'd do ATP?
yes yes yes
The album's great, and she's quoted as being up for putting together a good live show.
Definitely wouldn't be a wasted vote ;)
I bloody hope so.
Is there going to be another round of voting Jamie?
i doubt jamie will be giving anything like that away if it is going to happen...
Maybe not.
But it was left open from the beginning. I just want to vote for Grizzly Bear godammit.
Already played....
The initial thing was
"you can only vote for acts that have never played a UK ATP before... at least for the first round of voting."
Which implies that the second round would allow you to, if there was one.
I'm all for the initial rule about new bands playing. But i think for the entire event it's far too restrictive. Not every band on that played-before list is like Shellac etc.
Aye,
would be good if you could vote for bands who haven't played for 5 years or something (just so Growing and El-P can play).
Aye, not at all unreasonable
I'd go for Autechre, then. Ten times, if I could.
Delurk, voted
Eels
Ove Naxx
Dan Deacon
Cats in Paris
Jarvis Cocker
Rolo Tomassi
Xiu Xiu
Elbow
Zoe Keating

Jamie
Are we getting an tomorrow?
should be yes.
thank fuck for that
I'd have been worried if we weren't getting an tomorrow.
so
update still on for today?
you're like a hawk
MGMT
How come they're still no.10 on the chart if they've had an offer?
update on the site innit.
fixing the mgmt thing
actually not fixing, they're only being asked this week
and so they're still in the chart as currently calculated
Has anyone been voting for Chavez?
Just realised i'd not even considered them, but they're back together now.
good call
but I think people are too busy voting for shite. I must stop this futile moaning!
I'm pretty sure
that ATP put an offer out to them for the last vs the fans event so hopefully they'll do it again.
What!??!
Chavez are back together??! When did this happen?
I feared I'd never get to see them live but now there is a glimmer of hope.
Has anyone told mug x3? He'll wet himself.
Yeah...
I went for Chavez. Fingers crossed!
Can't believe people want to see MGMT.
I'm not buying yet..
But might if people vote for these...

I did vote for Hymie's Basement, though
Ooh.
If Daughters play i'll be well chuffed. might need some kind of cloth though. To mop up my brains as they melt and drip out of my nose.
I just listened to that whole Spotify playlist of this event
Its really very good. I'd automatically (and wrongly) assumed Marnie Stern would be a dull singer songwriter and several other bands were a lot more varied than I thougth they'd be.
I really, REALLY have to find a way of convincing people I know to go to this...
fog...
well, even Broder could play on his own and call it 'Fog'.
seems he's been recording on his own again.

Ok, own up...
Who voted 'Pixies'? Seriously...
Otherwise thats a darned good chart. Hopefully Xiu Xiu and Errors will say yay.
Liking the look of whats lurking between 25 and 100 too. Come on Aesop Rock!
democracy in action!
parts + labor get an invite straight after i vote for them. winner. haven't people seen jeff lewis play enough times though?
xiu xiu turned the last one down IIRC. wouldn't hold your breath about them playing...

Of course.

Mae Shi and School of Seven Bells
are both playing. Saw an ATP flyer at last night's Sunn O))) gig that had both of their names on the Fans Strike Back line-up.
Is it just me...

round two chart
is up
.
taunton-minehead coaches should be on sale next monday.
Any news today Jamie?
i
imagine they are going to annoucne all the remaining bands at once in an orgy of confirmations.
That's what i'm expecting.
But it would be nice to know if it's not going to be this week for example. So i'm not pointlessly checking the site every half an hour.
Especially annoying that all the updates seem to be about AC in London or yet another Spiritualized london show when i live at the other end of the country!
Agreed
I know it's our fault for being attention deficit sugar children, but goddamnit it's my first ATP and I'm excited.
I realise I am now requesting a status update on the status of the impending update. Help.
edan, grizzly bear, fuck buttons
confirmed with more to come
haven't grizzly bear already played ATP before??
or am i mistaken?
they were at the 1st
ATP vs the fans....!
Have you guys given up on the "no bands who have played atp before" rule????? :p
the thing about no bands who've played before
finished when we started round two of the voting
oh i see.....!
sorry, i've not been paying attention much!
the line-up looks pretty great - tempting! :)

Balls.
I was under the presumption she was voting for Andrew WK.
he
probably said no.
Actually, passion pit are the smallest band on her list, so i guess they all said no!
Should we have received tickets yet?
The FAQ states "Tickets should be received at the latest by approximately one month before the event". It is less than a month away now, and we don't have our tickets, but no one else seems to have mentioned it yet (bought through seetickets). Has anyone expecting tickets in the post received them yet?
You don't need a ticket
Although Seetickets have sent them out in the past. You just need your booking reference to actually collect the wristbands on the day, though.
You should be able to log in to See and see what status your order is at.
nope
should be going out v soon though. we'll do a news item on the site once its confirmed.
any word on confirmations yet?
Lovely news about NBC and all, but I'd really quite like to hear if we'll be getting Autechre, ingrate that I am...
Disgraceful news
that the second round voting slot no longer exists. What a joke!
we got fuck buttons!
excitement...
Still can't complain about the line-up as a whole
Regarding the Butlins Meal Deal, for those of us in Room only accommodation
Anybody used this service before? £40 for cooked dinners/breakfasts seems within reason, though obviously not if the food is garbage (I'm not expecting Blumenthal concoctions or anything, but you know).
Not to sound ungrateful...
It does seem a little disingenuous to blame the budget
when it's clearly not a budget issue (especially given that "Andrew W.K. special solo show" sounds an awful lot like "Andrew W.K. on the cheap"). The only way he's worth those three bands put together is if he charges an exorbitant fee, which would make mugs of all of us.
Anyway, enough of this crap, roll on May!

Stage times
Reasonably happy with the scheduling in terms of overlaps/conflicts etcs. But I really wish Pink Mountaintops weren't on at exactly the same time as Liam Finn. It's pretty unlikely that someone who wanted to see one of these bands wouldnt want to see the other.
Still, apart from that gripe, I'm pretty damn excited.
The new albums by Sleepy Sun, Pink Mountaintops and Grizzly Bearare so good. The latter, especially, will be joy to hear live.
