When do they usally start to reveal artists and dates?
its last weekend of may each year that it happens
I am thinking of heading over next year, but details of the festival itself are scarce online. A few people have reccomended it to me, does anyone know what to expect by way of the site, flight/ticket prices, getting there, spending money, etc?
I know nothing.
My favourite, probably.
I've been the last 2 years and now live in Barcelona. Brilliant festival both times.
It wouldn't be difficult to get cheap flights if you booked a bit in advance, maybe 3 or 4 months or whatever.
The site is about a 20minute metro ride from the centre of Barcelona in a really good open air exhibition site right by the sea. Bands are on from about 5pm until 4am with electronic music going on until about 6ish. Perfect location for a festival, great atmosphere and lineup.
You can buy tickets now for 95euros but that's only for a limited time. I remember last year the price went up to about 145euros closer to the dates. On site beer is 3euros for a half pint. Money needed for spends depends on what else you do when your in Barcelona really.
Primavera will be 85 Euros in December. I sent them an email a week or two ago, the current price includes the Xmas club event too so it's slightly more at the moment.
Ticket Prices: Probably about £65 up until around Jan 20th I would have thought. Then they go up incrementally to about £90 as the festival gets closer.
Flights: Mine was £65 return on Easyjet last year.
Site: Purpose built public ents space jutting out into the sea about 20 minutes from central Barcelona. Lots of concrete (hence no mud) and really well organised. Very little queuing if your sensible. 6/7 stages all reachable in about 10 mins.
Spending money: Booze money depends really, you can do it fairly cheaply with a bit of smuggling booze into the site, but only you know how much you'll want to drink there. Your major spends will be accomodation (best to get an apartment with friends if you can) and food.
I highly recommend you go, I've been for the last two years and had a fantastic time at each. It will have one of the best line ups in Europe, the people are ace and Barcelona's probably my favourite European city.
Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.
As far as prices go, really depends on if you can get cheap flights/accommodation.
Also do you want to sight see barcelona too? I tried that and it was a bit of a tight squeeze, what with the bands playing til 4-5am and all, but it's worth a try if you're interested.
Also I went with a couple of extra days either side of the festival itself, and usually they put on warm ups and after parties in some really nice intimate venues in the city, and I really enjoyed those gigs as well as the festival itself. That's if you wanna make a whole weeks holiday out of it.
It's my favourite Euro festival, the crowds are sooo much smaller than any other outdoor festival (with such big acts) and the location is amazing. The booze is a bit steep, but they give you good old spanish measures on the spirits :)
I'm going next year. You just watch me.
gotta be better than braving British weather
wasn't too great this year. A fair bit of rain (but at least no mud to worry about). 2007 was a lot hotter.
That's pretty much made my mind up then I reckon - there's not staying on site then I take it?
Any tips on good places to stay in Barcelona?
Also how long does it run for? Around what dates?
plenty of hostels in barcelona, or, hire an apartment (i'm going to convince more people to come with me next year to do this)
runs for 3 days, usually last weekend of may
the last three days of May this year.
We rented an apartment fairly cheaply, that's definitely what I'd advise if there's more than a couple of you. I think they've brought in legistlation that's going to stop short term rental around La Rambla, which is a fucker, but it's a wonderful city and you'll need to get the tuibe to the Parc Del Forum for the fest anyway.
me and my friends went by sleeper train last year, which I'd heartily recommend: do it right and it's only £160 return, and bear in mind you're not paying airport tax, luggage duty etc etc on top of that and that you arrive in a station in the middle of Barcelona, not an hour and a half bus ride away like Sitges airport, plus it's frickin' AWESOME fun - met and swapped numbers with quite a few fellow Primavera-types on our train (which had a bar).
Takes longer obviously, but top fun and also GOOD FOR THE PLANET, KIDZ
the last 3 years, incredible festival and always has an amazing line-up. Might take a year off next year to go to Sonar.
line-up is always really varied and interesting, dead cheap, great atmosphere, the parc del forum is awesome and it's in barcelona to boot .... i've been for the last two years and shall definitely try and get back next may ....
for holy fuck set's nap time as well?
of my posse of six, only two of us made it to Holy Fuck. I was one of them, I got on stage, I was smug then, I'm smug now.
cause I'm planning to go next year aswell but will only be 17 at the time.
although it's mainly an "older" crowd
I am going.
See you all by the bar to berate how shitely expensive and dull UK festivals have become and wonder why we never did this sooner.
are now on sale. Back of the net!
doing their usual thing at Primavera again next year Jamie?
i will be there with bells on. can't fucking wait. may 2009 might turn out to be the best month in existence.
May 2009 bring it on, ATP, ATP, wedding, Primavera honeymoon
best festival ever
this'll be my second time!
I love barcelona, best city ever, but I am struggling to go there to watch a load of bands I could see somewhere else. Can someone do me a quick run down of why it is so good please, to help me make a decision?
dancing till dawn, the friendly Spanish people, €1 shots of Jager, hot weather, it's right by the beach, the gorgeous indoor auditorium for quiet bands... I could go on. Primavera is amazing. Video evidence of one of the best nights of my life below:
it does sound amazing and will watch that later when I am not at work. My other problem is that whilst my girlf wants to go, she does like an early night. End of the road suited her perfectly! Are bands all night there?
but the main headliners are on around 10pm-2am
just need to adjust to spanish living and sleep in the afternoon!
things get going around 7/8pm and the last bands are on around 3am, with the dance acts going on even later. The sun's always up by the time it finishes.
Sounds really good, am going to give it another push.
determined to go to ATP NY next year so going to give Primavera a miss, it breaks my heart.
Barcelona beats New York every time.
Although the line-up isn't announced yet it will be a bargain for sure
I can commit to this now, can't I??
so if you do have the money now it's well worth purchasing. I'm sure this will change in January as will the festival ticket of course.
which is the best link to buy tickets on to avoid that hideous queue when you're there? I can't remember though we got it right last time, think we did the PayPal one...
to avoid the queue you just have to go there during the day on Thursday
We still had to collect, but didn't have a hideous queue at all. Maybe I'll just do PayPal.
booked my ticket
How did you book your ticket? (i.e. through which provider?)
I really have to check Cannes dates...
Primavera: 28-30 May 2009
think you'll have a new job by then?! :o)
Which would solve all our time off woes. but I think as it's post-Cannes, with enough days to deal with the festival aftermath, we might actually be OK...
out ways to get you fired.
Now get back to work!!
through paypal. i'll check the details and let you know.
cannes dates - 13-24 May / primavera dates - 28-30 May - so no direct clash.
it's going to be a bugger getting time off again no doubt!
They sent them in the post and i walked straight in. Massive inflatable beer bottles everywhere. Did the same this year and they said they will be sent out from next week.
with the current fluctuations in the exchange rates, they actually work out as the cheapest option.
As soon as I get some cash money I'll be buying a ticket
If anyone reading this thread hasn't gone before and is umming and aahing about whether to go or not, go for it, you won't regret it. Probably the best festival I've ever been to, in one of the best cities in the world.
Will be my third Primavera Sound on the bounce and every year our group gets bigger as once you've been you can't not go the next year, it's that good.
The gang of Irish I went with last time are back in Ireland so hoping to get together another apartment-share I guess..
a large US-centric hostel in Plaza Real. It was ok - lots of American graduates exploring Europe, so lots of interminable conversations about their business degrees, but it wasn't too bad. Apparently it was supposed to be a wild "party" hostel, but it was quite tame really :-( I think I'll look somewhere else this time around though.
I'm going to check out apartment options again, it was pretty cost-effective last time and we were about 20 mins from the venue down the beach. Will let you know how the research goes if you think that sounds like an option.
We've done apartments the last two years, it's definitely the most cost-effective option if you're in a group. Although seeing as we've had such a lukewarm response from our mates since the tickets went on sale, my girlfriend and I are considering booking a room at the Princess. Hotel at the festival entrance/exit and no fucking around with cabs/public transport in the early hours of the morning FTW!
websites for Barcelona apartments, or where's best to stay for the festival? I slummed it in a hostel for Sonar but would prefer somewhere a bit nicer; sleeping in the midday heat in bunkbeds and no air conditioning wasn't the best experience.
thats the one. Do let me know if anything pops up. I was planning to get an apartment this year, but all my friends bailed, they might be coming round to the idea of going after 2 years of me going on and on. It was lovely to see you at NBC by the way! Tried finding you guys after but no joy.
Catch you soon I hope.
as I don't think any of my mates will be going this year, so I'd like to meet some like-minded folk to get on with. Met a load of Irish last year, never kept in contact with them though. I'm in belfast at the minute
when do the tickets go up in price so I can get a sense of how long to um and ah for?
my main reason for missing nightmare before christmas was so I could afford to go to them, so I'm planning on buying a plane ticket to barcelona after xmas.
so I can be triggered into action. Thanks
NBC was seriously amazing but Im sure these two will easily make up for that.
but it was a choice between either short term festival joy and financial meltdown, or being sensible and being able to do much more in the fairly near future. So being boring and prudent won out this time sadly. I'll definitely let you know when I start to get things together for ATP fans as well as Primavera though. And, if I can afford it, Sonar, though thats very much my third festival option for next year
I'll get onto looking at apartment options when I'm well next week.
Looks like they've started to announce some bands
(according to the Primavera Forums)
Kitty Daisy and Lewis
The Soft Pack
Throwing Muses - good news. Maybe the Breeders too...
Michael Nyman. It has also been comfirmed on the Primavera forums.
do you know of any other rumoured artists/bands?
Well, on the Primavera Forum one spanish atendee of the last ATP has said that talking to the guitarist from Monotomix, he comfirmed they'd be in Barcelona for the festival.
A Tanned Tin (Castellón, Spain) atendee said the same about The New Year...
good news. let us know if you read any other rumours on the Spanish forum :o)
Especially Throwing Muses, as now I know at least one other person will come with me this time.
I'll be getting my ticket in 10 days.
but 1 pound now - 1.09 euros :(
total ticket for primalona is 94 euros, which now means £86 :( :(, pretty sure it was £65 this year.
The exchange is so fucked up at the moment it makes See Tickets look like good value - Shocker.
and it undoubtably won't change by the end of Jan (when ticket prices go up). it's no longer that cheap an option to go to european festivals.
My Bloody Valentine
Gang Gang Dance
(this will be amazing)
I want to go.
omg. damien jurado! hope he plays in the auditori.
of my pants.
i'm very tempted by this.
...that MBV will be doing two shows. Just like Portishead in 2008, one in a big stage and another in the Auditorium.
that is My Bloody Valentine in the Auditorium.
for the Auditori.
anyone got any recommendations on apartments. Either any websites you booked through, or any particular apartments..?
Things are looking positive for going this year, so will be after an apartment for 4-6 people....
Never been to the fest or barcelona before so any tips welcome :)
We used desigbarcelona this year and they were fine. Last year I think we used apartmentsramblas and they were good too.
I'll try and find out who my sister booked hers with because their place was really nice and they didn't have to do as much messing about with picking up and dropping off keys.
nothing really grabbing me yet. Does anyone know when more acts will be announced?
but I still think it will end up a stellar line-up. Euro thing is putting me off more. Doesn't really look like a cheap option any more.
to make me pay out for a festival trip to Spain. There just hasn't been anything announced so far that's instantly made me think 'YES!!', y'know? Loots of good, or critically acclaimed, bands but nothing actually particularly exciting.
Early days though. I'll see what else gets announced and take it from there I reckon
Tickets will remain at 90 Euros a pop until the 14th January so get on it kids.
although seetickets have already put up their prices.
It's a tricky one but I guess regardless of exchange rates sooner rather than later barring a minor miracle with our weak GBP!
cheapest so far is £95 return with ryanair (plus the £30 for bags, sigh). this is turning out to be not so great an idea as i originally thought :(
but the thing with Primavera is that it's during the Half Term holiday so at least one half of the journey will be expensive. Don't forget to stay till the Monday, the Sunday night closing party is always great and included in the ticket price.
and flying from anywhere else would be even more expensive.
guess i'm just gonna have to suck it up.
The station for the site is on the metro and doesn't take long at all to get to from the centre. They also have buses going back to the centre of the city all night, but you'll more than likely stay up late enough to get the metro back anyway.
i'm going to try and enlist as many people as possible...fingers crossed sonic youth will get announced
have been coming every other year and they didn't make it last year...
any other rumours going about?
the last.fm page states they're confirmed (though not the official site as yet)
they played '07, is all... and they've no album to promote this year.
may be false though...
they're playing. Two other gigs in Spain either side of the Primavera weekend too. Looks likely methinks.
but the couple of times i've seen them live were disappointing. it would be grand if jim o'rourke was there with them and to play a solo show - though i've heard he seldom plays live solo.
who else would people like to see/ expect to see at this years edition of the festival?
i'm sure i would've gone to see them. did they play really late or somefink?
having said that, their gig at shepherd's bush that year was amazing. plus with no new album to promote, they might do a greatest hits set (i.e. lite on 'sky blue sky', phew!)
that they were on the main stage at 2am-ish.
at the astoria just after yankee hotel foxtrot, and atp vs. the fans around the time of sky blue sky.
i hope department of eagles play.
Their two-man setup last month was interesting, but I wouldn't go out of my way to seem them again like that.
it were amazing.
Sophie, they did play at about 2am - I missed them to watch Mum I think.
was that astoria 2004, or an earlier one? 'cos i was at that gig too!
i have a vague memory now of pulling myself away from the lovely grizzly bear set (they were on at 1.30am or something) to go see wilco... but that's it. too much rum & coke i suspect.
I've had a mad morning at work and my brain is fried.
incidentally, there has been an upward trend in the pound to euro exchange rate this past week. hope it will rise a bit more before 14th jan. [the financial news brought to you by seeingotherpeople]
since they've announced any more bands! i wounder if they will prior to tciket going up on 15th Jan...
i am typo-man
don't think there was any announcements between that and the intial few bands playing
last year i seem to remember they announced some of the atp stage around the time tickets prices went up, which is the 15th jan, the same as last year. i'm bored today and looking forward to more news on PS if you couldnt tell already!
Can't wait to see who's playing this year myself as I've already got my ticket, so I'm already committed, doubt they'll let me down though
Bowerbirds, The Bug, Crystal Antlers, Crystal Stilts, The Mae Shi,
Plants & Animals, Ponytail, The Tallest Man On Earth, Vivian Girls y
the message board broke
Does anyone know if the pitchfork stage is a new one? if not, what stage it is taking over?
perhaps it's taken over from Jagermeister, or is taking place on that stage? As I think there's still the ATP stage as theres an ATP banner on the website.
I couldn't see there being an additional stage added as there was plenty last year and another stage = more chances of clashing. Maybe it's the vice stage as there's no vice logo on the website I don't think
the Vice stage was the Jagermeister stage! So that'll likely be the Pitchfork one.
It hasn't been confirmed yeat, but from what I can recall by reading the PS forum, it'll be the Cd-Drome stage, where Why? and Menomena played last year.
i forgot about that stage even though why? and bob mould played amazing sets there 08!
even tho he was The Ill.
so many bands that played last year to play again. sorry to be boring but i missed it last year. Cat Power, Bon Iver, Explosions in the Sky, Rufus Wainwright...eek!!!
the bon iver set in the auditorium last year was absolutely amazing.
Perfect way to start the final day of the festival, very initimate for such a big auditorium. Also swell season the day before were surprisingly brilliant there too
was very good. much much better than the album.
Oh I did see a bit of Rufus but I don't really remember it
The most important news on Estrella Damm Primavera Sound this year is the addition of a stage curated by Pitchfork Media, the prestigious musical website and a reference for a whole generation. Besides its influential website, Pitchfork has expanded its activities in recent years creating an online TV (Pitchfork.tv), and a festival that takes place in Chicago during the month of July (Pitchfork Festival). Last year Pitchfork also made an entrance into the publishing world with "The Pitchfork 500 - Our Guide to the greatest songs from Punk to the Present".
This alliance will ensure the presence of the new indie safest bets in Barcelona, following the Primavera Sound philosophy and the particular stylistic parameters that have made of Pitchfork a platform for the most innovative proposals. A good example of Pitchfork work: the first media appearances of bands such as Arcade Fire, Animal Collective or Bon Iver were on this website and even part of the success they have was built through the unconditional support of Pitchfork’s editorial line. With the intention of making the most of this media coverage, the Pitchfork stage will also have a slot for the most exciting new local talents.
This new series of confirmations include: Vivian Girls and Wavves, with their fuzz pop, the shoegaze flavoured pop of Crystal Stilts, The Tallest Man On Earth Swedish folk, the new sounds from Baltimore by Ponytail, the powerful psychedelia of Crystal Antlers, The Bug - Kevin Martin's new project - where dancehall, grime, noise and dubstep clash making one of the albums of 2009, the folk pop of Bowerbirds, the spectacular live set of the experimental punk band The Mae Shi's, and finally the Canadian Plants & Animals. All of them will perform on the stage that Pitchfork sponsors for Estrella Damm Primavera Sound 2009. The festival will take place from May 28th to May 30th in Barcelona's Parc Del Fòrum.
i made a spotify playlist thingie http://open.spotify.com/user/fiona_w/playlist/3d0VVex4HrspTolEdgQsCQ
of what's available on the website anyway. (before you say it - no, nirvana's not playing but i want a vaselines song on there.)
feel free to add stuff as more lineup gets announced.
getting my ticket today... SO exciting!
it works on mine even if i sign in on a different account (though had to click it a few times for it to load...)
Looking forward to checking the bands playing, discovered so many from last years festival
WOOOOO HOO!!! Canny wait!!! Barcelona's pretty much my favourite city as well, will be my third visit in a year!!!
for two tickets.
I think for 25p a ticket I'd much rather have the convenience of being sent a ticket and going to the small queue rather than that mental one last year. Although maybe a i could spent the 25p on 25 cola bottles, therefore making the queue more bearable. These are the decisions one has to make when going to international festivals.
maybe I'm just lucky.
You're right, you are lucky
any strong rumours from the Spanish PS forum?
will be going to that, so all's good
that means they are playing but were not meant to officially announce it this early. thats the way i read it. pitchfork are so cryptic...
Truth being said, this year there seems to be more secrecy than any other year before, and barely no names are being filtered through other channels than the official. There has been two: Health.. and Wilco.
Because I presume they'll announce the line-up before tickets go up again, that's if they are
is in mid-February, so price should increase then. And probably again at the end of april.
So they won't be playing the festival
as far as i can make out from the PS forum Wilco aren't playing anymore because someone at a Spanish music website announced they were playing the festival prior to Wilco announcing their headline Barcelona show for June. or something along those lines...
do bands that play the Primavera club in December often go on to play the festival?
the dodo's. the wave pictures. the thermals. deerhoof!
they're all cracking (apart from the dodo's who are alright)
Didn't take to them much until I seen them live, the album sounded so much better after
A Certain Ratio, Oneida, Joe Crepúsculo y Los Destructores, Jay Reatard, Deerhunter, The Bad Plus, Art Brut
Although still no big names getting me super excited. That's just me though.
oneida too will surely be brilliant
according to the Spanish PS forum there will be a press announcement the week of 16-20 feb.
what's the best district to be in? What district is the venue in?
is where the site is. it's close to an area called Poble Nou. the site is very easily reachable from everywhere in the city because of the metro system. anywhere in the old town would be fine, as would an area like Gracia because the metro line that goes to the site also goes through Gracia. Gracia is fuckin ace as well
Hope this helps
on february 18th, wednesday. You can follow it through www.primaverasound.com & www.scannerfm.com.
thanks - can't wait
for the atp stage?
gap in their touring schedule that weekend. Mind you so have a 100 other bands no doubt. Right who speaks spanish then?
you could use google translate to get the general gist. it seems bat for lashes are confirmed by myspace.
any chance Jesus Lizard could play? or is it an ATP exclusive?
I'll feel bad if they do too.
but The Cure are massive in Spain and they are doing shows this year, and I'm a pessimist
on their website
one hour to go until full announcement :D
looking up cheap flights already!
At work so no chance and therefore relying on you good people for info.
very quietly at work

lots of big names.
don't get paid till next week :(
from last year its not really the sort of festival where it sells out. which isn't to say that it lacks people/atmosphere
i went last year. booked early.
but the line up wasn't as strong as this years.
GANG GANG DANCE

is jay reatard still playing?
OMG OMG so excited
worried about clashes! That is one hell of a lineup.
but that doesn't mean I'm not going to be crying into my pillow come the end of May.
nothing I can't see soon, except maybe Ghostface but I can live with that. I go to a lot of gigs!
Tickets arrived this morning and then all these are confirmed.
who's going to be playing where!? i imagine michael nyman will be in the auditori along with my bloody valentine.
i wonder if that tiny myspace tea lounge will be there this year.
can anyone recommend hostels near the festival site please?
but the metros are good. i stayed at "Sea Point" last year, right on the beach, 3 min walk from tube (no changes needed to get to site), and no curfew/lock out.
really good location (on the beach) and a short walk to the nearest metro, which is only six or so stops to parc del forum. the rooms are pretty noisy and no frills, which of course is to be expected from a hostel. the cafe next door is amazing though - cheap slices of fresh pizza and pasta. anyway i'm rambling.
surprised we didnt bump into you lomax.
it was strange times and stuff, i guess. there was a big group of lads in the room next to mine, which wasn't fun, especially as the there were no real walls (did you notice that? the walls stopped before meeting the ceiling, weird). my room also had the delights of 3 early-bird Germans, eager to pack, and unpack, and re-pack, from 7-9am every morning.
but yeah, I expected all that from the hostel so wasnt too fussed. You know what you're getting. but as there's a group of us this year think we're going to get an apartment.
yeah we had the same problem - i think its for ventialtion, as our room had 8 or so people i think. there were a group of French lads in a neighbouring dorm who were really noisy joking about and playing pat ball or the like in their dorm, you know having fun. also a couple of girls in our dorm decided to clean their sand sodden shoes and clothes in the communal wash basin, and thus flooded it. good times.
the closeness of the beach definitely made up for the loudness of the hostel. we walked down first day to get our wristbands and it's a really good walk too. hopefully no droughts this year though ;)
although I like that area, so will probably try and find accomadation nearby.
how many more bands do people think will be announced? they said 40% of line-up still to come, which is about 25-30 bands. that seems a huge amount to me. well excited.
8 bands a stage (?), times 5 stages, times 3 days = 120 bands, roughly?
80 bands announced so far.
So yeah, still a load more to come! quality!
good times for my ears...
i wonder if we'll get suicide and the dirty three as with ATP New York.
Sunn O))) are performing their first album in its entirety, so that should be fun! Ive noticed theres no real big headliners announced yet. Which ya know is good for me. Obviously Sonic Youth, MBV,Jesus Lizard, Aphex, Phoenix (maybe), Jarvis,Spiritualized etc etc. Not fussing, just thinking they may have a couple of big guns to announce soon too. The past few years have seen, Wilco, Smashing Pumpkins, White Stripes, Flaming Lips, Portishead, Public Enemy, Throbbing Gristle, Devo, Dinosaur Jr, Lou Reed, Slint, Killing Joke, Motorhead... pretty big in their own right ya know. So yeah, maybe another BIG band. Not that fussed though love all the alternative samller bands anyways. Oh and of course they get some massive known djs too. x
Due to a combination of recession and lameness, I can't persuade any of my mates to go to Barcelona with me. If I went on my own the hostels will be full of music types I can hang out with, right? I have to go this year!
met a guy first day in the hostel (who, as it turns out occassionally posts on here)and ended up hanging out for most of the festival. like any travelling, if you want to meet people, you will.
Totally do it, you'll regret it otherwise.
MBV/Sonic Youth is the Portishead/Devo of last year.
As you've said, there's Jesus Lizard, Jarvis & Ghostface too.
And Bloc Party, who aren't exactly small.
I'd be suprised if there's another "big" band.
on the Spanish PS board one of the organisers Gabi Ruiz was saying that they very recently have a near 100% confirmation for another band (at least thats the way I translated it) but can't announce until they announce full summer tour. so that may be a headline act - who knows?
here's the link: http://www.primaverasound.com/foros/viewtopic.php?p=227897&highlight=#227897
what we do know and has been confirmed is that only 60% of the line up has been announced. I'm sure the remaining 40% will contain some gems for all.
the line-up is great already and they're bound to get a bunch of other interesting acts even if they're not headliners. i'd love to see deerhoof, of montreal and comets on fire out in the sun - unlikely as that may be.
Its saying there is another announcement maybe next week regarding the bigger bands, then a few weeks after that possibily another 15 more bands for the actual event. Then the rest for pre and post festival parties. Like the bands who play in the park on the day of the festival and the aftershow parties in Barcelona centre. Deerhoof and Comets on Fire have already played a few years ago, and im prety sure Comets have split up. Would be fun to see Deehoof again though they rocked last time. Basically all they need to do now is announce lots of banging Dubstep, Techno then... The Whitest Boy Alive, Venetian Snares, Wu Tang Clan, Superchunk, Big Business, Sleep, Trail of Dead, Clark, The Cure, Sun Kil Moon, Telepathe, Zu and im good to go. xx
Martyn might be there? Still hoping for them to add Neurosis. Orbital??!
so doubt they'd play another Barcelona festival so soon, probably in their contract or summat.
when the ATP stage will be up on their site?
man, has anyone got any rumours?!
on saturday: Neil Young, Sonic Youth and Jayhawks.
play cortez the killer...
but we got ours on seetickets and they arrived in days :)
i live in ireland so can't use seetickets..want them in hand before i depart!
and it was fine.
flights and tickets for under £150.
stupid ryan air though, ugh, girona.
Me and my friends have never been before and are slightly confused from the website; can you just tell us whether the festival is all at one location or is it scattered at different venues?
thanks a lot.
on the port/beach
can get between stages in a matter of minutes (depending on acohol consumption)
Thats the day the price goes up, they often announce new acts on the day of a price hike.
one of the organisers said they should have most of the forum and pre and post festival line-ups completed by friday (so the entire line-up then, probably my translation) - whether that means we will be privy to this tommorow is another matter...
at 13:30 Barcelona time today...

Will these bands be playing the festival as well as the opening parties?
just pre-festival parties, which is a shame.
Just reading through it again there, it must truly suck for anyone not going to this festival.
additions we've got left? it was around this time last year they devo, the sonics, explosions, shellac. i'm still hoping for someone to headline the mainstage over bloc party on the friday, but somehow i doubt there are any 'big' bands yet to be announced.
benacassim so I highly doubt it, also they're on tour in the states with a two or three day gap so i doubt it allows time.
Thursday: My Bloody Valentine/Aphex Twin/Yo La Tengo
Friday: Bloc Party/Jarvis Cocker/Spiritualized
Saturday: Neil Young/Sonic Youth
Thursday: My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, Yo La Tengo, Jesus Lizard
Friday: My Bloody Valentine, Bloc Party, Jarvis Cocker, Spiritulized
Saturday: Neil Young, Sonic Youth, Jayhawkes.
Does this mean all the 'big acts' are playing at the same time on different stages? I really hope it doesn't...
The larger acts tend not to overlap.

Are ATP doing any special Don't Look Back shit? It looks like they took a step back this year and aren't really doing much of a stage.
Here's how our line-up is shaping up so far:
Thursday 28th May
THE JESUS LIZARD
Friday 29th May
SUNN O))) presenting The GrimmRobe Demos
RHYTHM & SOUND
Saturday 30th May
TH' FAITH HEALERS
GANG GANG DANCE
ooh sunn o)))) thing
are also playing in the park on the sunday
apart from the big names there I'm really glad you've got Magik Markers - I saw them last year at Green Man and they were great - in their uniquely noisy way
i ordered tickets a good 3 weeks ago and they still haven't arrived..is this normal?
order them from?
whatever you wanna call it
should send them to you if you checked that option when ordering. it might take a bit as they seem to have a lot of work with big name shows... or you have to pick them up in barcelona (at shops of the ticketmater network or at the door of the venue) if you didn't. if you are not sure contact primavera at email@example.com.
theres a handful of bands to come, according to the forum. i wonder when though...
have been announced on the forum. http://www.primaverasound.com/foros/viewtopic.php?t=5891
not sure if thats it or not as my Spanish isn't too good.
that's it. They've just announced The Horrors and a bunch of acts for the parties. Excellent line-up if you ask me.
another great eclectic line-up this year.
so hopefully they'll be some more bands announced then. is it me or is the line up looking a bit more sparse compared to last years?
number of bands rather than quality.
From a quick look at last years lines up 150 bands played, compared to the 137 bands so far, so hopefully another ten or so are still to confirm.
montonix have a primavera sized hole in their tour in europe which makes me hopeful for the atp stage!
slightly disappointed with the horrors inclusion?
feels like there's not been updates for ages and then...that.
perhaps it's just me.
i've heard good comments about their forthcoming 2nd lp, and on the back of that i'd be interested seeing them live.
i have to admit i thought there would be more bands announced, and agree that it appears a bit sparse quantity wise this year. according to some on the message boards it seems the latest announcement completes the line-up, but the press release from the festival doesn't allude to that. it would be good to know for sure!
fuck yeah, they're good now don't you know
it was 4euros for a beer. jager was 1euro, or free when you got a pint if you had one of the million tickets they were giving out
really can't wait for this...
does anyone know if the pitchfork stage is the stage near the 'food court' and nearest to the gates? or will it be where the vice/ jeagermeister stage was last year with the steps and the view and that?
just wondering as they have the stages and bands by day on the website
until about 5-5:30 am-ish
as they're in europe around the same dates. that would be the best.
to not book a hostel room for the last night and just go straight to the airport in the morning? I am cost cutting here!
this would be my qualm
I chose the wrong time to cut up my credit cards :(
Hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com I've booked with a debit card on both of them...
All done....still needed a credit card though???? Got my mate's dad's one though....
theres 18 bands i want to see on the first day, and thats after whittling down. not looking forward to clashes.
not a very even spread.
really looking forward to zu on my first night in barcelona though. does anyone know where the venue is for this? is it near/on the festival site?
is kind of off la ramblas, very central and not near the festival site. i think the nearest tube stop would be 'paralel'
will you need your wristband to get in?
so we're only taking one rucksack. sorted.
an unfortunate exam cock up, I'm going to be missing the first two days of the festival (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I've transferred my weekend ticket to somebody else and now I'm going to buy a day ticket for the saturday. Does anyone know if you can still go to the gigs afterwards? They're probably not included in the day ticket price, but does anyone know if you can still turn up and pay on the door?
I'll be staying at the Sea Point hostel \m/
where "ESTRELLA DAMM" stage?
Neil Young and Sonic Youth are in the same time on adifferent stage?!
there are any more bands to come? It's been a while since the last additions. maybe that's it. who knows?!
Probably not anymore big name bands though.
did you read that on the forum? yeah i don't think any more headline acts are going to be announced, but it would be good to see a few more atp and pitchfork stage announcements, as greedy as that may sound!
a tiny bit lacking on the dance front (apart from Aphex obvs). But it would be nice to have someone the caliber of Robert Hood or Model 500 or even Tiefschwarz (who I hadnt listen to before last year, but thought were amazing)
Got my ticket.
Got my flights.
Got my accommodation.
you sound like that Nina Simone song
although the flights returning back to blighty are bloody expensive
A majority of the times are up here - http://www.primaverasound.com/index.php?sec=horarios&idioma=en&tipo=escenario
not a majority just the atp, auditori and estrella damm stages...sorry
that is horrendous. sonic youth/gang gang dance too. not happy about saint etienne vs shellac either, though i suspect i'm in a minority of one on that score.
bad clashes - especially the first two. don't lightning bolt play shortish sets though?
and ariel pink clash a bit - bit annoying. no doubt more to come!
gang gang dance is an abosulte killer clash. gotta be sonic youth, but not happy i'm gonna have to miss gang gang.
quick lightning bolt set (on the floor, i'd imagine) then peg it over to the rest of aphex set.
liars overlapping with deerhunter is a bit annoying too
is that the second main stage where portishead and cat power played last year?
jesus! zombie zombie are on at 4.15 am on the saturday/sunday! wanted to see them but doubt i'd survive till then.
i was hoping zombie zombie would be on late, that'll do nicely. would have been better on the vice stage, or whatever that's called this year - as with holy fuck last year.
they are on the vice stage. my post was confusing...
The vaselines/tallest man on earth/marnie stern clash on the first day is harsh.
MBV and ponytail overlapping is a bit lame
Can someone who knows how to make computers do stuff make a spreadsheet? Thank you!
Woe averted. Sonic Youth vs. Gang Gang Dance is one motherfucking bitch of a clash though
the one with the concrete steps/seats or the one with the grass where you get a good old whiff from the sewage works? i can't remember.
also, does anyone know which one is pitchfork? i assumed it would be where the vice stage was before, but looking at the schedule that doesn't make a whole lot of sense!
estrella damm is the large one with the grass that backs into the sea.
The pitchfork one is the one where you have to walk over a walkway and down loads of steps to get to.
ATP is the lovely one with steps on the right hand side.
Vice is undercover one with the pillars.
Auditori is the big blue building.
the stage where you walk over the walk way and down loads of steps? I thought the pitchfork stage would be the one near the food court.
I assumed that the pitchfork is the one with the steps as it is open on the Thursday. The stage next to the food court has never been open on the thursday (to my limited knowledge) and the vice stage was next to the food court in 2007.
you're probably right - just seem to remember the stage with the steps right at the back of the festival last year being put on by jaegermesiter and vice and the smaller food court stage being called the cdrome stage or something like that.
i'm pretty sure the vice one is the one with the pillars near the food, but i don't even remember the other one with the walkway (i've only been once, 2007).
Is it realistic to hop around between stages catching bits of lots of bands, or would that just result in me spending all my time walking / navigating crowds?
are very close.
you can get between them in no time at all.
except for Parc Joan Miro don't try and pop to that stage quickly on Saturday it's on the other side of the city.
IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING.
Maybe name a pub that will have a large united crowd in it, avoid getting a hiding when cheering on the reds in barca, lol
and live over in barca. best bet is to watch it in a sports bar or english/irish pub of course. there's one called the queen vic just off la rambla, which usually has a lot of reds in. that may well turn out to be my choice.
How about somewhere that will be free of reds AND the possibility of getting beat up?
I've had to guess a bit at set lengths, obviously.
Anywhere worth a visit of a night either side of the fesitval apart from the other shows?
Also is the closing party at the festival site or a venue in the city?
There are also concerts at the Joan Miro Park which is also nowhere near the site.

Does anyone know if Jason Lytle will play Grandaddy stuff or not? That's a definite deal-breaker.
Levitz, El Caminos in the West, Hewlett's Daughter, Jed the Humanoid and Jed's Other Poem played in recent shows
Yayayayayayay, you're a gentleman sir... unless you're not.
i'd imagine LB will play for half hour max, giving you plenty of time to watch lots of Aphex (my plan anyway)
I imagine most peoples will be doing this.
This is my first year, cannot wait!
I dunno, Bjork at Connect was pretty special. Aw man, seriously hurry up May, it's dragging soooo much!
im trying to figure out how much to take
with the tourist exchange rate at 1.06E per £1, I you'll quickly go through it, especially if you eat and drink in the venue.
£50 a day - should be more than enough
As i'll be in the city for 7 days id hope i wouldnt have to spend £50 a day. Meals are provided at the hostel im staying in and i dont plan to drink tooo much during the festival.
Anyone staying at the Barcelona Sound Hostel, or have stayed there in the past?
lightning bolt and wooden shjips (copy and paste below):
-Thursday 28th of May
ATP stage: Wooden Sjips will play at 01:45 (instead of 20:45) and Lightning Bolt at 20:45 (instead of 01:45).
Good news for yous wanting to see both Lightning Bolt and AFX...
clash with marnie stern, oh well.
they have moved the vice stage away from where it was last year to inbetween the atp and pitchfork stages. Here's a map - http://www.primaverasound.com/data/pdf/mapa-ps09.pdf
last year's set up added something new to the festival but it seems port authorities were against using that area again this year - boo.
behind the ATP. there's gonna be lots of people climbing up the concrete steps at the side!
anyway for anyone going on the wednesday, if you go to the Apolo theatre you can get in to see the ATP film and the football right after using your festival wristbands. full info on the prima site or on ourtrueintent.com
I've only ever done it on the thursday, I assume it's at the forum.
do you take your paypal receipt with you to the apolo then?
I feel you're finally earning your keep now.
Jamie do you know if they will be letting people in after 6?
i liked that vice stage last year, despite the millions of steps to climb back up. was nice to see boats sailing past next to the stage...
I think everybody should end their set in the same way.
we've got a really nice apartment in raval booked for 5 days starting the 27th. a couple of us in our group have had to drop out last minute, so there is some room in our place for a few more nice people if anyone is looking. also our friend who can't make it has a vastly discounted 3-day ticket. let me know if ur interested.
how much would you want per night? Me and my friend might be interested...
to the food court in the shopping mall by the forum. such a magnificent atmosphere in there.
There's no way I'm going for an 11 Euro Burrito
is not related to quality or good records. Is related to good sales.
pick up any party prescriptions from around the festival? My friend has warned me about coloured chaps around Las Ramblas.
What an amazing festival, I had so much fun, saw so many amazing bands, definitely going next year, brillers.
