Thurston Moore to curate another ATP?
http://www.saucerlike.com/articles.php?x=display&id=17
Nothing definate stated but according to his partner at Ecstatic Peace its likely. The article looks like its a little old but what would you think of an "ATPeace"?
I for one say bring it on! Thurston's Nightmare was the best ATP line up bar none. Go on Barry, you know it makes sense!

please god no
One of the best sets i've ever seen was at his ATP so i wouldnt complain.
It was Mats Gustafson and Eye if you were wondering...
I reckon I discovered more awesome bands
before, during, and after his ATP from that line up than any other I've been to.
Gustaffason and Eye was amazing
As was Brotzmann/Bennink. Agree this was one of the best ATP's I've been to, and I've been going since 2002.
I hope so...
People who dismiss his NBC as boring or "just noise" don't deserve to have ears.
^ this
It's far and away my favourite ATP so far, such an amazing, varied line up.
I read somewhere once
that this was going to be in America and he was going to bring some of the noisy uk acts over. Might be completely falsch.
that would've been
in the NBC programme.
if he wants to do another one over here though it's completely fine by me, and if my approval sways it then that's cool.
You have sway?
I don't think I have sway. Anyway I reckon it should be someone totally different to keep it fresh, ye kna.
as much as
i love thurston and SY i've not really liked any of the bands he's bigged-up. Charambalides are ok though.
Nobody can even pronounce "Charalambides" though
honestly, where does he get off.
I like many of the bands he picked last time a lot more than Sonic Youth.
nah
you didnt.
Yuh-uh
well.....
.....i really dont see that Magic Markers or Sunburned Hand Of The George Forman Grill or whoever could come up with anything as great as 'rather ripped. i dont.
Have you even heard
The Volodor Dance or Jaybird? Rather Ripped isn't a patch on either.
you just made those
two up!
bloody hell,
you didnt make them up. "Volodor Dance, recorded for Latitudes, contains four frantic pieces of primitive expressionism which were recorded live to tape, no overdubs, no re-takes. ..."
that sounds errrr....
\m/
Those records are great.
i think they
might not be, to be fair. sorry.
this reminds me of a joke
why should you never sniff Magic Markers in the multi-story car park?
a: Because you might get ink on your nose.
They are excellent, honest!
Both those bands release a record every five minutes and I would be surprised if they were all as good as those two.
rite, if i order these two
online right now, theyd better be the best damn records ever. i hope they dont sound like Gang Gang Dance.
And what exactly is wrong with GGD?
oh shit!
ermm nothing, just that theyre a bit, Gang Gang Dance. y'know?
um....
i really like Black Dice though. even though theres a local social club act with exactly the same name round these parts.
I'd like to see someone
new Curate ATP. They should also introduce some sort of rule where they don't allow any acts who've played the last few years as the line-ups always seem contain a few bands that play all the time and it's getting a little boring.
Charalambides
Is pronounced Shara-Lamb-Bee-Des (if that makes sense).
I asked Christina Carter once so I reserve the right to be correct.
^
That was in reply to mug_mug_mug's post by the way.
I fail to see how it could be pronounced any other way
?
Ch is pronounced as H in Greek I think.
So it would be Hara - lamb - be - des.
it's more of a 'sha' with a really soft s
i know cypriots
OK
I was basing my theory on how football commentators pronounce Angelos Charisteas.
It doesn't really matter anyway as I've only ever said Charalambides out loud once.
your first mistake
was trusting David Pleat
It's pronounced
However CC says it is. It's her damn band.
In reply to the actual thread subject
I don't think he should do another ATP. Just because I reckon it should be a different curator every time. The worst ATP I went to was the Mogwai/Tortoise/Shellac one. They had all done superb ATP's on their own but couldn't come up with the same quality second time around.
i think ATP are running out of curators
they've had two recently not chosen by musicians...
i don't see why they can't just get someone from a lesser known band/label with great taste to curate, and announce a big name headliner straight off... they kinda did with the thurston one because all the promotional stuff had IGGY AND THE STOOGES all over it.
well
the chapman brothers already curated one. they arent musicians. why does it have to be?
it doesn't have to be
it's just that obviously it's easier to guage a musician's taste in music from what their work sounds like.
what i meant was that traditionally they get the headline band to curate, but ATP-sized bands with ATP-suitable taste aren't exactly abundant.
i dunno
the dirty three weren't exactly a huge name headliner, in fact as you suggest they just happened to have rilly good taste and lots of friends.
are you trying to say
that people go to ATP just because they know it will be a good festival and are likely to see some bands they like even if they havent heard of them?
sounds ridiculous doesnt it?
if rage against the machine
and REM arent headling, i dont get out of bed. and the artic monkeys. all on the same day.
didn't barry choose
most of the bands at the chapman brothers one though?
so legend goes
yes.
