Anyone know when the line up for this will be confirmed?
Dates for it are: 19 / 20 / 21 June
'TIS GOING TO BE A M A Z I N G.......
and it's actually on in June... 19, 20 and 21st I think from memory... YAY...
Sunshine, brilliant music, and spending the early morning hours on a beach the way a festival SHOULD be... :D
Sonar party for people going.. it's a really friendly vibe and if you are going alone, come and meet some people who are going. There's also a great facebook group called I AM GOING TO SONAR 2008 who are talking about the after parties and what not...
I'm already counting down the days. I just wish the line up was released... Hmmm... must have a look.
I never thought I'd see the day.
I've always looked at the lineups for Sonar and been so impressed and really want to go so:
what kind of cash does it involce (tickets+travel+spend)?
how easy are tickets to get? or are they for various venues?
would you recommend getting accom + tix or do both separate?
so keen for a festival in a city in the sun, no way i'm doing Glastonbury this year.
if skint, so that you don't pay ridiculous summertime fares to Spain. We paid about £106 return with Iberia (which is affiliated with BA ie a proper airline - no charter shit where you sit in an airport for 30 hours because your flight is delayed kind of crap).
Secondly, depends what you want. You can get day tickets but I'd suggest getting the full three day and night pass. During the day there is a plethora of activity surrounding multimedia and music (I really plan on going to those quite intensely this year.. on the Thurs and Fri anyway)...
You can always get pretty cheap accom in Barcelona. Depends on budget again.. you can do anything from hostel to hotel.
Tickets for the actual festival are not on sale as yet but should be in about four weeks time. I think they are about 150 euros, maybe a bit more, for the full pass.. don't quote me as yet. Tix are easy to get but I'd get them before you go.
Book flights first if cash is an issue!
I would go just to see Daedelus and Ove Naxx kick off!!
LEILA (live, UK)
YO MAJESTY (live, US)
BURAKA SOM SISTEMA (live, PT/AO)
MADNESS (live, UK)
KID ACNE (live, UK)
THEO PARRISH (dj, US)
YELLOW SWANS (live, US)
LE ROK (live, DE)
which means I might have to try and be some kind of massive uber geek and timetable it.
There's already contention from people I'm going with about who wants to see what so suspect I'll be having quite a few random Rose-Kitten adventures. Hmm.
I have to say I am pleased that the man from Osaka, Scotch Egg has made the line up.
IS NO ONE ELSE EXCITED? I booked my hotel today. Must get ticket tomorrow.
I've got my accomodation and flights, just need the tickets. Should be awesome, last Yellow Swans show ever! There's still loads of bands I need to investigate though.
Wonder if they've seen the Mighty Boosh?
Im sure its going to be worth it for Frankie Knuckles alone. I think I might try and hang around in Barcelona after Primavera somehow
website says that Mike Banks and Jeff Mills are playing too, but I dont see their names mentioned anywhere on the Sonar site...I think that would swing it for me..
I've seen both Frankie Knuckles and Jeff Mills play (the latter a couple times) before.. Frankie in a six hour set waaaaaaaaaay back in the day down at Brixton (probably about 2001 - gosh, memories). His face lights up the entire dj deck, what, with those massive white teeth and grin.
I am so excited by this festival because I missed out on LOADS of stuff last summer. BRING IT ON.
I saw Jeff Mills (with Steve Bicknell who was also fantastic) at Lost a couple of NYEs ago. It was a good night :D
will be doing the "X-102 discovers The Rings of Saturn" along with Robert Hood. I assume/hope they'll all have solo sets too.
my mate is getting them this week. My friends couldn't decide whether to go to the opening night or not, we decided Goldfrapp ain't worth it.

and I can't wait but does much go on before and after the Fest?
Im arriving on the Sat 14th and fly back on the Mon 23rd, so I'm up for as much music and partying I can fit in.
ummm... I know there are some pre industry parties going on... if that's what you mean? I need to do some investigation in that area myself.
there are A LOT of great things happening in the clubs of Barcelona anyway at that time, not connected to the festival and somewhat independent. you will have a great time!!
This is a good thread which should keep you up to date with what's happening off-Sonar - http://www.residentadvisor.net/forum-read.aspx?id=37261&page=1
I'm toying with Dave Clarke or some bonkers looking Swimming Pool party for the Thursday.
on their website is pretty good.
i'll be going on my own, if anyone wants to meet.
hope this gets people in the mood...
as yet... after this weekend will do some proper investigation, leik.
The ultimate site for after party/off sonar stuff -
Vitalic, The Hacker + Audion on the Wednesday, I can't decide between the Soma Records, Young Turks or This is Hardcore parties for the Thursday. All excellent lineups.
I just did a little tiny shizzle rush thingy thing thing.
the line for this is actually incredible. I think I might try and stay out in Barcelona after Primavera...
hudson mohawke and rustie are playing somewhere. bound to be good.
Top ten artists I'm looking forward to seeing-
4.Rob Da Bank
10.DJ Yoda Magic Cinema Show (apparently this was awesome @ Gatecrasher!!)
I can't wait!!
Post your top tens!
2 neon neon

5 hawtin/ minus collabo
6 santiago latorre

as well, too much good stuff! I can see the clashes being really nasty as there's so much I want to see.
My mate got sent this in an email from Sonar, not too many bad clashes for me.
clashes aren't too bad. the worst for me are yellow swans with shape of broad minds and neon neon with chloe.
been added to the saturday night, making it even more amazing, too amazing... neon neon, chloe and antipop all at midnight, arrgh.
that HEARTBREAK who I stalk regularly in nightclubs are going to be playing out there... (they are friends of mine too, so that entourage is going to be out there)... and ONLY JUST NOW another friend of mine will be heading there too - - - - - - I hope I come back alive... It's going to be one helluva week out there.
*Heartbreak are playing at one of the after parties if anyone is interested... I'll find out more and post about it.
VERY VERY VERY EXCITED NOW!!
will be sickkk
tomorrow, excited! Bit concerned about our early flight from Girona next Tuesday - tad further than I thought.
Bonde do Rolê have replaced MIA on the bill. Meh, will be checking out Soulwax instead.
it promises to be tremendous... oh yes.. :-)
Despite a near death experience with a bus (my shoulders were nudged as was the back of my head, several times by the side of a bus), I'm back alive, Number 5.
Just got in from Heathrow... the weather in Barca is overcast, and yuk... we got the best of it.
I'm on Spanish time too Beepz... so getting back to reality will be a tad hard, after not getting to bed before 8 am most mornings. Ouchos.
Next year, it's all about Exit, tho... in Serbia.
you hang around in Barcelona centre on Monday night for Sant Joan? I've never seen (or heard) anything like it before. Crazy scenes. Parents were giving their kids fireworks to light in the middle of the street.
We had dinner at our friends pizzeria and stayed back late after everything had shut.... kids were on the street and at one point, threw a firecracker near the roller door to the restaurant..!
We then headed down to that crazy beach rave and checked that out - I didn't stay for too long as was quite exhausted by then but it was interesting to people watch for awhile.
I always find the whole fireworks thing odd anyway as they are highly illegal in Australia (where I grew up) and have been banned since something like 1976 anyway... so seeing kids JUMP over works buried in the sand was quite creepy from my perspective.
The fireworks on the beach were not bad..
Well, I arrived back from this today and my body clock is completely smashed beyond recognition after seeing the sun come up everyday. Incredible festival though, so many good moments.
Will have to have a think later on my favourite bits, Sonar by Night is just mindblowing - the stages, the sound, the music; it's pretty much perfect. I wandered into Sonar Pub with my mouth agape.
If anyone finds any live set MP3s please post up some links! I know that they were floating around last year.
Yeah make sure you post with the best bits so I can fill up with impotent longing :)
jahbitat: exploring lots of different sounds well.
little dragon: great songs, great musicians, cool frontlady.
roisin murphy: don't remember moloko putting on as good a show. like being in the theatre and nightclub at the same time.
buraka som sistema: everyone wildin
neon neon: business class, har mar is funnier and better this time round.
soulwax: played hard, every song was wicked.
clark: had us in the palm of his hand, flowed so well.
I caught that set but know very little about him. What label is he signed to?
Yellow Swans: Exactly what I expected, they seemed genuinely emotional at the end with it being their last show. Lovely guys too.
DJ Scotch Egg: BONKERS. The Japanese Dan Deacon.
El Guincho: Turned up expecting Konono No1 but this was a nice surprise to see him live. I didn't realise that he was playing with one of the Ruby Suns until I got back (splitting the tracks between the two bands).
X-102: Breathtaking (when it eventually got started), a flight through space listening to some of the best techno ever recorded. I never thought Groundzero would end and didn't want it to either.
DJ Yoda: The new video technology is perfect for his show, wearing my rolex!
Soulwax: One of the best live bands I've ever seen, nonstop for an hour.
Buraka Som Sistema: As furryfan says, everyone wilded out.
Yelle: I thought she'd be pants but a great live show, loads of energy.
Pantha Du Prince: Dancing to this whilst the sun came up = perfect.
There were loads of other good bits too - Pilooski, Villalobos, M-nus (I wish I could have seen more of this), Radioactive Man, Miss Kitten, 2ManyDJs, Diplo. My mate was raving about A-Trak/Mehdi too. The kind of festival where you wish you could split yourself into three to see everything you wanted to.
fuck yeah, add el guincho, x-102, m_nus, villalobos and pantha du prince to my best bits.
like you say, more things wish i could have gone to.
where and what day were 2manydj's playing? didn't see them listed.
had to pull out so they replaced him on the main stage at 3am. They were due to play after Theo Parrish on the schedule apparently (under the psuedonym Kawasaki) but got moved across.
It was real sweet to wander in to catch the start of Alkan's set and see 2MANYDJS plastered over all the video screens.
spank rock, mia, konono no1, xxxchange, erol alkan, was kid sister there?
I so wish I could have gone to this :(
I saw of The Field was deathly dull, very disappointing. My mates saw all of his set and thought similar, it'd work far better doing a full continuous set rather than individual tracks.
I watched Scotch Egg instead who raised the roof.
I'm not sure I understand the Gigwise review of X-102, they were clearly having technical difficulties at the start and he's obviously never heard the X-102 album. Several people seemed to expect a straight Jeff Mills set whilst it was clearly advertised as a presentation of the X-102 material.
to call the field a band, just a drummer and a couple of times a guitarist with the laptop.
they were alright, but i'm not mad on them, so not the best person to ask.
