It were pretty good like.
think i enjoyed the bands more previous years though
i left before the rain
because my friends all felt like shit after over doing it on Saturday.
Josh Pearson slayed everything.
and thomas truax was the one doing the slaying.
* Napoleon 3rd
* Garth Hudson
* Blood Red Shoes
Other good stuff; disco shed, lovely food and drink as always, generally friendly atmosphere and the 5 or 6 Old Gregs wandering round on saturday - creepy.
i over did it on saturday, so sunday was a bit of a drag. with the rain and everything i decided to head back last night rather than waiting till today. made the right choice.
i did notice a lot more 'lad' types about and according to a taxi driver on the way home there was a rape, which sucks pretty hard.
best bits: Hootie's performance (and Claire's involvement in it), also Fuck Buttons accompanied by interpretive dancers.
worst: George Pringle *vomit*
I left in the evening cos' I was knacked/cold/wanted a shower.
Chris TT, actually one of the worst acts i've ever heard.
Chris TTs set was utter shit. his selection of songs showed total lack of imagination/talent and bored me rigid. The only good thing he did was the improv song about the wasp.
I was soooooo tired all weekend though. no amazing standout acts either, which was a shame...
does anyone happen to have a picture of my trucktache at all?
I'd probably have enjoyed it more had it not been a week after End Of The Road (for one thing, I kept thinking "but Napoleon IIIrd/Monkey Swallows The Universe/Brakes were much better last weekend") and if I hadn't been in a pissy mood all Sunday for assorted reasons, but it's Truck, and that cannot ever be denied.
Highlights: Sky Larkin (and meeting Katie in the Rotary Club till queue), Blood Red Shoes, Thomas Truax, Gravenhurst solo, Piney Gir, SixNationState, ESP
Lowlights: still failing to meet a single DiSer, the Foals closedown, Jonquil not being as great as I wanted them to be, PWL cancelling his quilting tent set, neither surprise guest turning up, the rain.
I didn't think it was as good as last year. It didn't help that most of the bands I wanted to see couldn't make the rescheduled dates.
Highlights: Keyboard Choir, Fuck Buttons, Rock Of Travolta, Silent Film. Good atmosphere as always!
Lowlights: Sound bleed over. Especialy from the Beer tent. Why did they have music so loud? It meant that if you had to watch any bands outside the Trailer tent you couldn't hear them cause of then enemy blasting at 10db...
Not being able to get in tents esp the barn again.... while not as bad as last year this still happened again...
meeting everyone, the weather, the variety of bands, the general quality of them (even when not to my taste)
'witches' 'the walk off' 'drug squad' (according to my youngest) 'chris issac', the food, 'nap III' schla la las, and virgin gig band 'last army' very good debut. Mrs knees quilted patch being included on the quilt shown by Piney gir.
The hippy that danced to as many bands as he could (my youngest was fascinated and inspired by this)
The gaffer taped up roadie trying to escape.
The lack of corporate stuff and rip off.
the mules werent as good as i expected.
The fact that even at such a nice non rip off event some people still feel nasty enough to pinch a nice gentle sweet gay couples food and drink.
Me feeling that whenever I was talking to you guys i was having half my mind on whether I was negrlecting Mrs Knees (unfortunately what happened was...mrs knees was left quilting whilst we went to get some soup.....the soup wasnt ready and so we were about to go back when some nice young women started to chat to my boys, so I didnt feel that I should interrupt this, unfortunately we were gone for about 45 minutes (mrs knees had waited at the quilting tent for half an hour for us to return with soup, and had to endure a 'whiney man singing who was impersonated by a drunk man taking the p***' untill she gave up waiting, so she was slightly miffed........Im only glad that I was talking to kieths tele when she found us.
just so I couldnt recognise him...
1st he had lots of stubble and glasses, then he only had stubble, then he had stubble glasses and moustache then he had no glasses, stubble or moustache. and he got taller.
Chunty has got the loveliest brown eyes
I Was A Cut Scout
Josh T Pearson
The Early Years
Electric Soft Parade
Danny & Champs of the World
The Walk Off
I didn't see as many bands this year, but, that was in large part due to the fact that I was there with more people than usual which lends itself to general chilling.
I met 'creakyknees' who seemed very nice and had a good chat with 'Shucks' who I ran into in the campsite. It's with slight trepidation that you approach someone by calling their username when you're not at all certain that it is them.
For that reason I resisted yelling 'Nice Squirrel' on any of the 25 times or so that she walked past my tent (you were wearing the rather chic wooly hat right?).
A couple of highly probable sightings of Jamie Summers too, I think he was looking at my Minor Threat t-shirt near the entrance to the campsite, but, again I can't be sure.
Music wise....Blood Red Shoes were fun, Owen Tromans impressed as always, I enjoyed Pull Tiger Tail, Goldrush who I'd never watched before, Fonda 500 and Idlewild who were worth waiting for in spite of having the most ridiculously long sound check of all time. They didn't play Everyone Says You're So Fragile, but, then you can't have it all.
I concur with what has already been said about there being a few more 'lads' there this year.
It seems to edge ever so slightly closer to being a Reading style crowd each year (although that is still a LONG way off). Some of the tents next to mine had some belongings stolen on Sunday night which saddened me as it is most un-Trucklike behaviour.
I didn't hear about the rape, but, there was a police 'Forensics Investigation Unit' parked next to the 3 Volkswagen campers at the entrance to the campsite on Saturday morning.
That aside, virtually everyone I met was lovely.
where were you?
level with the Disco Shed but on the far side to it rather than the near side.
Christ, that doesn't make much sense does it?!
I guess you must have been passing each time you headed to Camp DiS or wherever your tent was.
i def saw that shirt. good work!
...aside from Idlewild.
Josh T Pearson
Leo Lightning & The Dynamic Two
Rock Of Travolta
A Scholar & A Physician
Having a nice bed & breakfast room to go back to at the end of the night
I would have liked you to have been :(
cant beleive no one has said 'lo-fi culture scene', they are better than me at music, which i hate!
new forward russia
sha la laaaas
twats that cant put there tents up properly!
it was put up so badly
before the downpour. the swearing would have been heard in the next county...
just stick to the songs about thatcher and skip the ones about flying giraffes and talking old lady trees?
his political ones are utterly embarrasing, he should stick to the one about giraffes.
he needs to bring out a new album, the third of his London trilogy supposedly delayed by, I think, the bombings if at all possible. I suspect he's largely following the political path now, though.
all of his songs are embarrasing and awful. This man has no talent. If you don't believe me visit his website and read his lyrics. They are worse than Razorlit's.
not the people who put it up, we did the best we could with what we had. but yes, I think it would have collapsed and died if we'd stayed one more night....
were this years Skullthrash, managing to blow away my hangover
first thing on sunday morning that I wanted to see. the swines you would have thought they would have planned it better
truck was fun
I was drunk
i was a bit of a tw@t whilst drunk
i danced a bit
i smoked too much
i mooned some people on the fun bus
i danced again
i got annoyed with the tosser in the tent behind me who was up all night shouting. Klaire told him where to go
i didn't drink and wee wee
the fun bus was the least fun bus ever on the way home
except that bus that wasn't billed as being fun.
ok so it was pretty much only the least fun, fun bus ever
and that was only because it took like bare hours to get back to london
and my bottom got tired
i'm too big to dit on a bus without moving for bar hours
i miss festival season
roll on ATP!!!
