can i be the first to start a thread about this.although i got nothing to say
mikey diver told us last week
Animal Collective a cert, then? Actually, it could be quite similar to Vs The Fans, which would be great. Their festival they have in Chicago every summer looks amazing.
I'm trying to book some flights and I can't miss this.
or 18th-20th may
I shall mark out them in my diary to avoid clashes.
will probably be announced halfway through october (if they do the same as last year!)
can they get round to sorting out the 'new acts to be announced' for Christmas?
that Pitchfork will curate 2 different festivals then? - One in April and one in May?
I can only afford to go to one ATP each year and want to make sure I go to the 'right' one.
if its true that is(that pitchfork are doing it)
3 a year is just right
is way too much. I only get 22 days holiday from work a year and a festival normally requires me to use a minimum of 2 of these days.
What I'm saying is that I can only afford (both financially and holiday-ey) to go to 3 festivals a year.
I get quite upset when I read about all the ATPs I can't go to.
a year. depends how much you want to go, if you reeeeally wanted to go that much you wouldn't mind using 6 days of your 22.
3 atp's is too much! i really want to go to everyone but each one does cost about £500-£600 inc travel and spending..... so its not so much the days off-although 6 days of your holiday is quite a portion of my 19 days!-its just very expensive.
does it really cost that much?! i'm going to my first one in december, i hope it doesn't come to £500! (depends on alcohol consumption i guess?)
i usually spend about £100. just take booze with you...
i suppose when i go, i dont wanna scrimp and have to worry if im spending too much etc... and im a sucker for merchandise. and i dont think you can take booze into the arenas.....so?
oh and i like to eat meals during the day ie, breakfast, lunch etc... call me wierd!
(food from tesco?)
otherwise the challets are really near to go back for top ups.tesco s is dead near and loads and loads of food outlets on site.if i wasn't such a sucker for merchandise i could probably get away with spending £30 or less over the weekend
I've never been to an ATP before, but a Pitchfork currated one may interest me. How quickly would the chalets (maybe just a 1 bed one, unless we find extra friends) likely sell out?
As long as they choose the Pitchfork-approved bands that I like, and not the Pitchfork-approved bands that I dislike...
barry hogan has laid that down as a prerequisite for any bands playing.
Gotta love the Hulk.
a year is GREAT! Fair do's its lame if you aint got any money...I'm now a mature student so shall be fucked but I'll be damned if I'd wish to deprive all the bastards that do get wages and holiday such joy!
Lets just pray one of those fuckers will take pity on an old ATP veteran and sneak them into their pocket!
And honestly it doesn't have to cost much - once the ticket is paid for (and maybe travel, depends where you're coming from) those are the major expense - stock up on booze and get some budget bread and pasta or something (you ain't gonna be going gourmet lets face it) - food you can make yourself quick- and you'll be fine. If you're pissed when you leave the chalet you'll have no probs.
A hip flask concealed in a boot don't hurt either..well the next morning it does but hey - go for a swim.
lets use this thread now eh?
Sebadoh, ween, man man, dirty projectors, glass candy, pissed jeans, fuck
buttons, apse, caribou, los campesinos and of montreal.
really want to see pissed jeans.
Sebadoh, ween, man man, dirty projectors, pissed jeans, fuck buttons, los campesinos and of montreal.
and the others i've not heard much of. this is good.
for the Pitchfork fest.
New confirmations! Meat Puppets!
Chosen by ATP
The Black Angels
Shit and Shine
Chosen by Pitchfork
Les Savy Fav
I want to go to this one.
5th November 2007
There are four more confirmations for the ATP Vs. Pitchfork today:
For ATP we have:
And for Pitchfork there is:
The Hold Steady
to the E to the H...
yay on the black lips and hold steady front!
this is a great round of confirmations. must. sort. chalet.
to this one. Not 100% convinced with the line-up thus far, but it's ATP so I have to go.
Damn. I wonder why they are thundering ahead with the announcements for the Pitchfork one and as yet nothing new for the other one? I thought it might be that they had more faith in the other one being popular (hence it's at the bigger site) but now I'm not so sure.
And I still reckon its My Bloody Valentine. Or Pavement. But probably neither and will be Mogwai and Shellac as usual.
Either way - best festival ever.
if they were gonna get pavement or mbv to play you would have thought they would curated it really and not choose explosions. i would have thought its gonna be a bella union thing again
if so then hopefully dirty three will play
Liz Fraser pulled out of the last planned reunion, and now i hear other band members are against it too
Don't I feel silly now?
And I missed Animal Collective in Bristol last month. Brilliant.
Eluvium hardly a surprise though.
5s going fast too apparently!
mainly because I don't know any of them.
So enlighten me people...
Who good from this bunch?
is a morrissey-esque swedish singer songwriter who mixes traditional folk songwriting with samples and loops.
marissa nadler is as described above and is fantastic.
i'm not too familiar with the others.
waiting for new comfirmations
approximately 35 bands playing at the last few Camber ATPs, and 26 have been announced for this one thus far
although i guess i shouldnt tell people to be patient when i'm notoriously unpatient
Previous ATPs at Camber had about 36 bands I think. Maybe Pitchfork are waiting to see who's likely to be flavour of the month in May?
November to January. Dull.
I guess we'll be happy if they pick someone a bit more inspired than Redd Kross though.
After a long wait we can now put you out of your misery.
Here are some fantastic new bands added to the line up!
Chosen by ATP
Car Sick Cars
Chosen by PITCHFORK
Ummm, can i be the first to offer a big fat meh?
harmonia! black mountain!
DAMN. and others i need to do more research on!
car sick cars are back too, hurrah! :D
I missed them at NBC.
is that the melbourne band, even?
i think i can 99% for certain say it is
[if i'm going]
the addition of the clientele complicates matters somewhat on my decision of which weekend to go to :(
Shit, I have tickets to see them at QEH but I want to go to this too.
Great boost to line-up
I was just starting to feel ok about the fact I was going to the EITS weekend rather than this one, and then they add all of these.
Black Mountain, Howlin Rain and Harmonia. Damn you, ATP.
My weekend will be spent persuading friends that we need to get a chalet for this.
when they played the Mudhoney ATP. If there ever were a band that didn't live up visually to the sound they make on record it's them. Maybe they were having a bad day.
Harmonia though. Lucky b'stards. I would be happy to go to this, although I have tickets for the other one.
Now I really really want a ticket...
All 5 and 8 berths are now sold....
for this one when the next lot of announcements come. i'd recommend people buy now or be VERY disappointed.
Big band? Reformation? Jet back from their hiatus?
just thought it would be fair to tell people to get a move on, which should be obvious by now anyway!
that comes into most indie fans brains when they wake up in the morning 'radiohead'?
it was a joke, and ive been up since 7. i think my first musical thought was "mmm...lichens"
just waiting on one person before booking... eep.
can't say for sure.
Kraftwerk or Sparks
I hope I'm right. I'm probably not.
but i think the way jamie's talking it'd be someone "bigger" - i mean, sparks are touring generally anyway arent they?
one of their albums in order, starting the week after ATP.
And isn't one of them related to one of Red Kross?
I started speculating that Kraftwerk might play. Didn't Public Enemy and Portishead both ask them? It would be fucking amazing if it happens. Best gig I've ever been to was Kraftwerk in Barcelona.
their set at Coachella in 2004 was incredible
but even if they weren't AMAZING the line-up as it stands is still pretty fucking special.
...will be OxXfucka or Donkeyrape or something.
I hope they're playing with the classic line-up, with Dirk Highlighter on percussion. The first couple of albums before he came on board were too poppy for my liking.
get to replace wesley willis in the rap part of Piss On My Twiglet?
they could give him a whirl. Or Handsome Dick Manitoba. In shoe polish and a fat suit.
Is who I think it is, I really should listen to more of their stuff as I wasn't blown away by the news.
I can't wait for ATP.
as EITS will still be better, but people are being fucking annoying if they actually know and aren't saying. "Ooooohh I know something you dont"
Unless it is Radiohead and this is the Just video.
just saying that something(s) pretty special is still to be announced, so people should get a move on ticketwise!
sweary name or I will be furious.
if you actually know what it is...?
but i can't tell you because i start working for atp in a week and a half. be patient ;-)
Or is that the nature of your work, working us up into a frenzy so we all buy tickets.
Quite frankly its working for me!
i havent actually started yet though. so you'll have the right to shout jag after i start!
the "no miffling" campaign that seems to work too.
thats a really cool job to have landed, well done!
if you were an ATP Street-Teamer I was astually pretty close.
as i havent actually started this job yet
or something like that. Good luck anyway, sounds cool.
I think the line up for the Pithfork ATP is great, but I miss some of my favorites.
Can you tell how many more bands/artists to expect Jamie?
What in hell could the surprise be??
have reformed, if they play I will cream my own and everybody else's pants.
harvey milk? they are touring this year, and i heard that the chunklet dude is somehow involved with this atp. and they're ace.
There is a new record being made with Joe Preston on second guitar. I think it's going to be another rock n roll one like The Pleaser. And they seem to be playing SxSwSXSXSW. So it's possible.
I really don't get Vampire Weekend at all
I missed them support the shins. I will watch them this time.
I hate Vampire Weekend!! I'll just get drunk with sadpunk then.
I actually quite like Vampire Weekend though.
Good band. EITS got my ATP cash this year though.
as I know, the big announcment was cancelled. I really missed the time when we tried to guess the act, but we where all fooled. Vampire is Ok, but they will be forgotten before the ATP starts. It is 3 more bands to come, but I don`t expect much.
another obvious, lightweight, band-of-the-moment confirmation from Pitchfork.
i don't wish to sound ungrateful about an event i'm *really* looking forward to, but i really do think that Pitchfork have massively underperformed incomparison to ATP and there own festival record.
I'm really excited about the weekend but christ, more depth please : )
I was hoping for at least a bit of techno or something, seeing as they cover it. But nope.
Am still excited about the lineup overall though.
The Guardian TV guide/magazine-type-thing last Saturday suggested so. All's not well in the world of afro-indie.
Maybe they'll fight?
being vastly superior to both, will put them back in their respective NY box rooms.
can be special referees
They cover techno and grime monthly. I'm amazed there's no hip-hop.
They had Vandermark at their own festival. The variety at the EITS one is much better, albeit with no jazz. I was expecting VW to turn up at one of the ATP's this year.
I was expecting a lineup closer to the EITS one with a smattering of hiphop (I think De La did one of the Pfork shows in the US) and electronic. Not moaning though, still a great lineup but ATP are winning in the versus stakes.
This might be mostly an 'of the moment' lineup but I'd be really happy to go to this, if only for VW, Harmonia and the Hold Steady, who don't seem to get much love round here. It'd be nice to relive some of the memories of the 6 happy ATPs I attended at Camber too...
I reckon they've come up with 2 brilliant and really different ATPs this year.
I cannot wait! The lineup is fantastic!
losers and pickers of shitty bands, please book Times New Viking to somewhat redeem yourself. ATP has picked far better bands than you.
Fucking brilliant news.
HARVEY MILK NEXT PLEASE
and its ace!
as much i enjoy them i dont think they'd work on even the smaller atp stage. theres a real lack of headline quality bands at Pitchfork, i think i've picked the right one.
both bands are fucking amazing.
for the first time as i'm going to the Pitchfork ATP. It sounded dreadful, I take it's a grower?
...might not be your thing.
i'll give it another shot before we go though, I might get into it.
but Jamie, the way u made it out to be we would have another band of headline quality... :'(
to stop having a moan at jamie just because you're not entirely happy with the bands? You can't blame him for being overly enthusiastic about it.
the bands are fucking ace and people seem to complain every times its anyone other than radiohead or nick drake.
why do my posts keep coming out in pairs?
This will no doubt appear twice. I may just do it for comedy effect.
No complaints from me.
nick drake to play, then i've died and gone to atp heaven.
im just pointing out it's always like the 2nd comming of jesus when he posts a rumour. I take it with a pinch of salt :P
did I? Bellface.
I take back the 'bellface' bit.
is still better.
it's not a competition.
wish I was going to this now. Jay Reatard is playing as well.
i still love ATP. Hopefully the Xmas one will be as diverse as ever!!
Just Primavera gets both ATPs and lots lots more goodies
I.e Mission Of Burma, Public Enemy, Kool Keith, Shipping News, Enon, Throbbing Gristle, Smog etc etc.
with your 'music venues' and 'close proximity to the airport they will leave the country from'. So it's ok.
this is a couple of excellent additions from Pitchfork. Good work guys.
so.. one more band to go, right?
another interesting niche addition or a storming third headliner?
i actually don't care much either way at the moment.
far. to. excited. : )
and thats your lot.
FINAL CONFIRMATIONS FOR ATP VS PITCHFORK LINEUP
We're very pleased to announce the final two additions to the already uber-stellar ATP vs Pitchfork festival lineup. First off for our side of the bill are legendary Washington DC noise-rock supremos Girls Against Boys. On the Pitchfork side, we have the very hotly tipped newcomer Bon Iver.
The lineup is now complete and we hope that you're as excited as we are. As we said before, chalets are selling fast so get a move on. Only a few short months to go until May!
I don't know them. What are they like, people?
Bon Iver is one wussy chap who went away to record an album in a log cabin somewhere about the break-up of his relationship.
Sounds like my kinda thing...
havent heard it yet though.
its on jagjaguwar too, so you know, probably automatically good.
4AD in the uk
gvsb are the fuckin tops
JAMIE! is it with eli jannnnnnery or not?
i'd hope so
i'm going to go and just shout "DRINK DEEEEEEEEEP" all through the set, cos im cool like that
that'd be Scott McCloud you is finkin' of. Eli never fuckin plays with GvsB anymore - always John from Enon!
with them when GvsB played don't look back in new york and l.a. a few years back...
last year actually.
had a huge influence on me musically during the 90's. One album of theirs - Cruise Yourself - in one swoop completely changed my music tastes. That doesn't happen very often.
So... great pick ATP!
You know I wouldn't begrudge ATP curating their own festival one year if they carry on picking bands like they have done for this weekend.
it's not as if pitchfork have really attended to their curating duties this year with any great care.
whenever I've seen GvsB in Europe for the past few years its always been John instead of Eli. Past 4 or 5 years maybe. Can't speak for them in the US. John does a good job...
news up here:
part in my update!!!!
more than likely have one or two spare tickets for this - will know in a week or so but if anyone's interested give me a shout! will be sharing a four berth with me and my lady, can also throw in a lift from the portsmouth area, or you can meet us there.
only now, plus one 7-er
one of the 6's, after just missing out on the last 4's, panicing, finding 2 more people and booking it as soon as I got homw from work last night, phew!
special guest djs = Hot Chip, Various Production
...getting an update for EITS ATP??? I'm getting impatient.
how soon, dammit!
i have my ticket for this but im still a bit gutted about missing out on EITS ATP.
that's your lot.
CHALET UPDATE - GOING VERY FAST, LIMITED AMOUNT LEFT
Another update on the chalet situation, Wegottickets have now completely sold out of their allocation for the Pitchfork weekend. There are just 18 chalets left between the other two ticket sites, which are:
If you don't want to be left at home missing out, you'd best get a move on! We don't need to tell you again how good this weekend will be!
First up, we at ATP have chosen a set from Various Production, one of the most talked about and interesting electro groups of recent months.
Second, our friends at Pitchfork have asked Hot Chip to DJ on another night, which we've no doubt will make the weekend even better than it already is (if that's possible?)
Excellent addition ATP!
on the notification list to hear about production held chalets when they get released, go to
email me cos i have two spare spaces in my chalet. email@example.com
i read somewhere that there are going to be three comperes including david cross and henry from chunklet. ahy truth in this matter.
and if anyone has a spare ticket, send me a message please. i'm trying to find one for a friend.
because david cross was sadly rubbish at the sleater kinney ATP.
still love his work in Arrested Development...
henry's in his jon jon head of security guise.
it is the original thread after all(however rubbish)
the perfect get you excited warmup for friday! :D
the nearest village (rye?)
it's about 4 miles. Not too far, much less of a trek than inehead to Taunton. There are buses fairly frequently and taxis aplenty. I've missed camber, it's gonna be great!
bus ride I believe
Hello, this Friday I will be going to ATP Vs Pitchfork. It is my first ever ATP.
I've wanted to go to a few in the past but have never had the funds etc etc etc but now I am finally going.
My problem is that I don't really know what to take with me? What are the essentials other than pants'n'socks?
Do I need a sleeping bag?
Any tips would be appreciated.
but figure its easier to take less, and it'll be a hot weekend, and you can just put a jumper on if you get cold in bed.
or i can come warm you up.
bring booze and deodorant. if its hot i dont want to be surrounded by stinking floppy haired spotty idiots. k?
i have a regulation sensible haircut.
Going to your first ATP is a fantastic occasion.
I was pretty overwhelmed when I went to my first.
cant wait to this overwhelming feeling
bog roll, towel and booze you do need though
just in case I have to sleep on the sofa bed. They're not very comfy, so any extra padding's appreciated.
I bought on Wegottickets, so i know I pick the tickets up when I get there. But as far as entering the site, can I get in on my own (I will have the ticket reference etc) and others arrive at a later time, or do we all have to enter the site together?
and make sure u leave a key behind the desk also.
Make sure they have some sort of ID so's they match the names on your insurance form and your set.
that u leave them behind the thingy, o well lol
Is the beach any good for parties? Are you allowed to take firewood and make a fire at night?
Cheers big ears
for parties!!!have never ever ever seen security on the beach.just watch the tide.its a fucker and takes you by surprise.loads(2)fires on the beach last time
its sunny as fuck in camber.
check in tomorrow is from 12noon.
