Half picked by atp, ticket buyers vote for ten bands. Good idea?
BUILT TO SPILL
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN
DO MAKE SAY THINK
starting my list already, that's my afternoon sorted. Should make for a pretty eclectic line-up...
Then if we're lucky we could have 13 & God in there as well.
They couldn't afford most of those though.
BUILT TO SPILL
ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN
DO MAKE SAY THINK
..have also been added
better than weekend one.
and I'm not sure they offset being in the same location as Ian McCulloch, surely?
I think they're great. Plus Built to Spill... oh yes!
We had this idea ages ago while at ATP. So happy they've actually done it.
Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic.
Time to get my friends organised.
the mountain goats
Boards of Canada
or something along those lines
it may turn into a kind of ATP "Greatest Hits". Boredoms, Les Savy Fav, Shellac etc
that would be rubbish, and exactly what is going to happen
TOM WAITS TOM WAITS TOM WAITS
great idea, but who's gonna buy tickets to a random event? Probably mainly people who've been before and will pick bands who've played before. So it'll be Deerhoof, Shellac, etc etc
I hope to be proven wrong.
pick half the bands so you're going to know some of them.
Plus, we're expected to buy tickets for any other ATP without knowing the full line-up.
Get more excited!
So im all good at the moment. The half ATP announce will mean to an extent that it isnt completely random. Plus Everyone ever has had some stuff worth seeing and even if you don't see many bands it is worth going to an extent. I saw very few bands at the last one and still had a great time.
only a handful of bands have been announced.
glastonbury don't announce any bands til weeks after the tickets have sold out.
how is this different?
Red House Painters
Boards OF Canada
GANG GANG DANCE
this sounds like the best thing ever. I want:
voted for The Postal Service, they'd consider it?
The TV channel is going to be programmed by the fans too. I just want to vote for 'Trapped In The Closet' by R.Kelly to be on all weekend, day & night.
with The Waiting Room. And a collaboration with Sunn, That would be immense.
Dane Bowers Solo Set
Don't Look Back weekend...
going to be a weekend three???
well, one is the xmas one
Boards of Canada
TV On The Radio
Kings of Convenience
Saturday Looks Good To Me
yo la tengo
brightblack morning light
are playing! go on the atp site!
It sounds exciting.
Don't sell out soon, please.
has gone out so i have to wait till tomorrow...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The idea really excites me, but the bands announced so far don't. Also, someone else mentioned how it will just end up with loads of typical ATP bands and as much as I love Dead Meadow, Oneida, Shellac, Deerhoof etc I don't really want to pay £170 to see them all again.
you're right about it being lots of typical atp bands. such as battles.
it could either be really good or really bad.
i thought the whole idea was for bands to pick their favourites and for unexpected turn-ups: who'd have voted for Negative Approach and Flipper in december?
ultimately this is just going to lead to a more conservative festival, curated by Echo and the Bunnymen fanatics.
I don't think its that bad an idea, just the bands already chosen are pretty shit and will encourage people to vote for more crap.
Also, the majority of people who've posted on here obviosuly don't pay much attention as loads of bands listed have played ATP in the last couple of years.
means you get a diluted result.
this just strikes me as a lack of imagination, as if they couldn't find another curator. it's not as if it's not going to sell out or anything, so it's not even a commercial decision.
i like the idea personally, and I think they've probably got lots of bands lined up to curate.
les savy fav
John Frusciante & Josh Klinghoffer
and their tribute band:
the cribs. :D
but hope its not filled with more mainstream bands.
Anyway, I can think of a few so far:
Sigur Ros - Never seen them. Might destroy me live.
The Coctails - played a reunion show last year so might be up for it. Need votes though.
Shellac - Yes they have played before but I've never seen them, and I love em.
Liars - THE highlight of ATP 06 Weekend 1.
and last but not least... The Halo Benders!! NEVER played a UK show and Doug is there already. Lets make it happen!!!
but John Frusciante really blew my mind. he should go back. but he wont.
we get ten votes but they then make a list of all the bands voted for, in order of most voted for, and then start asking the bands from the top down.
Me Me Me
SHELLAC OF NORTH AMERICA CONFIRMED!
boards of canada
godspeed you black emporer!
yo la tengo
or someone else i've forgotten. they're unavailable.
are the other band unavailable
to put this above my definite thread. you are a definite twot.
Les Savy Fav
I haven't quite decided on my 10th choice yet, it's between about 30 acts.
Have been added - according to an advert in NME
"In at number 1 was Arcade Fire who were unavailable but number 2 was Modest Mouse and we are delighted to announce that they have confirmed.
The third choice was Apples In Stereo who we have sent an offer out too."
"13th December 2006
OK VOTES ARE IN -MODEST MOUSE CONFIRM
So after the first week of votes we decided to choose the top three bands on the poll this week. In at number 1 was Arcade Fire who were unavailable but number 2 was Modest Mouse and we are delighted to announce that they have confirmed.
The third choice was Apples In Stereo who we have sent an offer out too. Because of the recent ATP we will be posting the results of the next poll next Monday"
"Because of the recent ATP..."? what do they mean by that? hmm.
and then him and johnny marr can have a dance off on the dance revolution machine.
wonder if they have now asked bjork with her being 4th in the list.. and the arcade fire being "unavaliable". hmm
But I used Seetickets :-(
Try it on a different browser. I remember trying to apply for a credit card, and it wouldn't let me fill it in because I used Firefox.
This may be bollocks, but it's all I got.
whats the chances of pavement reforming? worth a vote?
some of them have performed together recently, and malkmus has played pavement songs, and said that a reunion is very possible. however, atp have said that the silver jews are unavailable. thus i assume pavement are too.
might just vote for 'steve malkmus/pavement' and see what happens.
am very tempted by weekend one though now... hmmmmmmmmm.
would be up for it, surely? Lou has been to some atps now so would expect him to be interested and I heard sebadoh are back together now. They are a great live act and there's always the chance of lou going mental. Pavement good choice too though.
Jamie will get all pissy and stuff.
So I think mine will be something like:
My Bloody Valentine
i think you're being willfully hip.
Have you actually been to ATP before? Just wondering. Cause I think its the ATP regulars who know and love the festival for what it is who are genuinely getting worried about the votes.
that the people going love music enough not to care how obscure a band is when taking into account their enjoyment of said band.
thats one of the things that makes ATP what it is. The line up is slowly revealed over a period of time and there is always a few or many bands confirmed that you've never heard of. So you investigate them and listen to them, confident and trusting of the curator, who you probably know and love anyway, and they almost always turn out to be fantastic. Its one of the best routes to discovering new bands/music.
I don't think Radiohead/Interpol/Graham Coxon/Hot Chip fall into this category.
but seriously, if radiohead, for example, were announced i cant believe most people going wouldnt be completely blissful about it.
Unsurprisingly, Pavement unavailable for weekend 2.
Offers out to Bjork, Bonnie Prince Billy, Sonic Youth and the Shins.
As good as Sonic Youth were the other week, i hope they say no. Likewise with the Shins, can't see Bjork agreeing either.
bjorky, let your kind heart agree, you nutter!
the Definitive thread. Its currently the last post.
for Wolf Parade. I doubt it will be a wasted vote.
this is looking ace, lots of us going now. hbs said he and scarecrow just got tickets :-)
wolf parade would be in my picks too, bjork definately would #1 choice i think. as to the rest, who knows!
now i just need to find some cash & enough willing people to go with me :(
are listed as unavailable now also. No surprise as they've just done Nightmare Before Christmas.
arent the newly reformed Sebadoh in the top fifty?!
If they don't get asked to play by the festival organisers regardless of voting then I'd be very disappointed.
so james will be pleased
i am checking on average every 10 minutes
Bjork, The Shins AND Interpol?!
Please let them all say yes!
Jo kills ME
i'm still really disappointed with the voting. So far i'm only excited about Shellac and Do Make Say. Not enough heavy stuff or interesting people who haven't played before (like in my selection above). And I won't be happy at all if Radiohead get an offer, nevermind play. Fuck all this democracy.
would that reason, perhaps, be that they're frickin ace?
i dont get the interpol hate. they are fucking great live, and i have a soft spot for both their albums.
wonderful at reading 2003. i dont listen to the records enough.
