Monday 15th of May @ The Port Mahon, Oxford
Barzin + Witches (almost acoustic) + Wait For Coniston + Deptford Mice
Doors open at 7:30 - £4 adv / £4.50 door
Coming from Canada are Monotreme Records' latest signing (also home to 65daysofstatic/Thee More Shallows/Picastro/Stinking Lizaveta/The Mass etc). Often compared to the likes of Low and Sparklehorse, Barzin walk a minimalist line between chamber pop, alt-country, and indie rock.
Playing a more stripped down acoustic based set, rather than the full on roaring guitar and trumpet tempest that they are capable of. Witches have pieced together a sound that is as diverse as its influences, which include Sparklehorse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Mr. Bungle, and The Raveonettes, to name but a few.
Wait For Coniston
Jagged yet delicate math rock. Wait For Coniston mix up intricate guitar and warm vocals. Influences include the likes of Slint, Tortoise and Sweep the leg Johnny.
Haunting post rock and epic soundscapes. Deptford Mice sound like a cross between Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mm and Sigur Ros while creating something completely original.
