An exhilarating blend of dirty, distorted post-punk guitars, shouty riot grrl-style vox and fantastic pop songs, alongside nods to everyone from Le Tigre to Penetration. Their debut album garnered comparisons to Love is All, Gang of Four and B-52s, and led to a UK tour supporting The Cribs, appearances at both London Popfest and Indietracks festivals, and a session for Marc Riley on BBC 6music. Their second album Life! Death! Prizes! was released on WIAWYIA Records in October 2010 and was named Album of the Month in Artrocker Magazine.
"A spectacularly bitter indie girls-set-on-stun dual vocal attack, in what is one of the better bands to juxtapose schmindie twee and angered literary abstraction since 1990s unsung legends Prolapse." (The Guardian)
Grovesnor is Rob Smoughton, drummer for Hot Chip and student of the old school who loves a good tune and a crisp rhythm. Although undeniably influenced by the pop music of the 80’s there’s something supremely modern about the music of Grovesnor – but yes, there are echoes of Hall and Oates and Billy Joel.
Grovesnor’s is a unique blend of future pop – check the ticking drum machines and chill wave synths on Taxi From The Airport or the dubstep machinations of Nitemoves with its Joe Jackson on poppers new millennium vibes. Is he for real? The ambiguity of “is he for real” is where Grovesnor comes in. He’s more of an anti-hero, and often makes mistakes or chooses the wrong path at pivotal moments. If there’s comedy in these songs then that’s just the tragedy amplified to comic proportions.
MOUSTACHE OF INSANITY
Moustache of Insanity are Nik and Bill, two ninjas hellbent on kickstarting a transglobal funtastic casio pop revolution. They play noisy bleep boom pop magic that, if you’re lucky, might just melt your face. If dinosaurs were still around, they would most definitely like this kind of music. Especially the cool ones with long necks.
“These guys are brilliant. Twee-casio-pop ahoy, they are a bit like Moldy Peaches with tiny keyboards and facial hair. One of the most fun bands we’ve heard in a while.” – Pull Yourself Together, Manchester
As it’s a bank holiday Sunday we will be dancing into the wee hours with Djs from legendary Bristol based club night Lipstick on Your Collar, Simon (regular DJ at Guided Missile nights), Allo Darlin’, Music For Girls and Fortuna POP!
