The new and unique club night, whichcaters in all things J-pop, visual kei and J-rock, will take over the lavish King Pin suit of Bloomsbury Lanes, situated between Euston and Holborn (map), for its opening party on Wednesday 17 November from 8pm – 2am. Tickets are available for £5 by clicking here or for £6 on the door. Cosplayers and flyer-holders also get in for £5.
On top of DJ sets throughout the night playing the biggest and most exciting Japanese tunes, Japan Underground has also teamed up with Shonen Knife’s UK Label Damnably, who have have selected :
10 (“The zaniest experimental music in Asia” – TimeOut)
ITTA AND MARQIDO are a boy/girl, Japanese/Korean experimental electro couple playing their Debut UK show.
They have played art festivals throughout much of Asia and parts of Europe, gaining recognition as one of the most active and creative bands on the Asian indie scene. They use melodica, piano, accordion, mini synthesizer, key-tar, drum kit, and numerous toys.
A rare show by Cosmic Shenngy (“An ambassador for the Chinese avant-garde” – TIME) one time 'Hang the Box' drummer (China's first punk rock band who signed to Cherry Red) and daughter of a Cosmonaught, who dropped the sticks to pursue a more experiemntal space/krautrock bent. Shenngy has collaborated with Elliott Sharp, Alvin Curran, Damo Suzuki and Blixa Bargeld. She also performs as 'White' with Shou Wang from 'Carsick Cars' and has toured with Neubauten.
The opening night will also have a TM Revolution / Abingdon Boys School theme, including songs from the artists played throughout the night, and ABS’s European exclusive album Teaching Material being awarded to the best TM Revolution or ABS cosplayer courtesy of Gan-Shin Records. Further still, Manga Entertainment will be screening episodes of the samurai hit anime Sengoku Basara, which features the ABS song JAP, at the venue’s private cinema, along with Vampire Knight along with official music videos from Japan’s biggest rock acts from Gan-shin Records on the big screen.
Damnably's aptly named 'DJ Set' (DJ Set) and 'Dj Whatever' spin the coolest J' post punk/J' punk pop J'tunes.
The venue also has bowling/ private karaoke rooms/Nachos and cheap Czech lager plus super dry J' Lager 'Asahi'!
Come along and rock London, Japanese style!!
