Betty And The Werewolves - album launch gig!
BETTY AND THE WEREWOLVES + THE MAI 68S + THE GIVE IT UPS
Fri 9th July @ The Haymakers, Chesterton High St, Cambridge
Doors 8pm, £4 adv. from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/83765
BETTY AND THE WEREWOLVES
YES! Betty And The Werewolves are definitely one of our favourite Cambridge bands - well, one of them lives here, does that count? Sod it, they are just one of our favourite bands, and our collective bosom swells with joy from the anticipation of them releasing their debut album, and doing a launch gig to commemorate this.
What we're looking at here is three girl, one boy fuzzed-up pop racing straight at you like Talulah Gosh on an careering night bus. They sing songs about getting dumped at tube stations and falling in love with proper pop stars and put them out on glittery vinyl - pretty twee, right? Yet is also no word of a lie that they are Fucked Up's favourite band. Thinking about it, loads of punk bands seem to love them along with all the indie kids, it's like the perfect storm. Whooping, howling, thrashy guitars, garage rhythms, moreish tunes and boozy party fun are all present, plus a few highbrow literary allusions.
Anyway, you probably already know how great they are, and can't wait to jump up and down at this gig, which is to launch "Teatime Favourites", which comes out on Damaged Goods on the 5th of July.
THE MAI 68S
Icy, revolutionary pop tunes from the Midlands.
THE GIVE IT UPS
Ramshackle, jangling fun, like a 21st century Vaselines.
