August brings the peak of “Summer” upon us and as we draw to the height of the party season we have compiled an energising and refreshing line-up taking us from House and Tech to Breaks and back. Our feature guest for August, we welcome the very talented Janette Slack gracing the decks and showing off her technical know-how. Other guests this month to make debut for Tailspin are James Monday - one half of the long running east-end Saturday night imprint of ‘FREITAG’, Leigh Brooks -who co run’s ‘Spunky Cheeba's’ Twisted Beach Parties on the banks of the Thames will bring us his flavour of Sunday afternoon Twisted lounge House and finally veteran audiologist Stakker. Support will come from residents Seany T, Banksmann, Langers & Salon Kitty.
Janette Slack has established herself as one of the hottest artists around. Originally from Hong Kong, now based in London, her sound is rooted in electro, house and breaks which she delivers with an infectious energy. This has lead to residencies at Air and Torture Garden as well as regular appearances at Global Gathering and The Cross, alongside numerous tours in places such as Australia, Russia and China.
Janette sees production and DJing as inseparable. She has the technical know how to drive studios large or small, demonstrated on her debut release for Air Recordings. The funk fuelled ‘Shake & Play’ originally featured on Ali B’s Air Breaks compilation and caught the attention of DJs such as Deekline, Stanton Warriors and Jay Cunning. Having started 2008 with a feature in The Observer Magazine, this year is set to be another hectic one for Janette Slack. Alongside her busy DJ schedule she is also working towards completing her debut artist album.
James Monday started out djing at small clubs in Ireland in 1998. Moving to London in 2000 began playing many clubs and bars over London. He successfully hosted after parties in Shoreditch from 2003 - 2005 along with playing abroad in Italy, Spain and was also lucky enough to play the highly popular "Sound Waves" party in Portugal. James is one half of the brainchild behind the popular Saturday night FREITAG which was born in January 2007 and since then has gone from strength to strength.
The sound of FREITAG: Concentrates on "new electronic music, underground House and Minimal, deep encapsulating sounds".
We will look forward to seeing you down at the Horse & Groom to bring your weekend to a close on a high note!
