featuring Oliver Ho (Raudive), Mr Beatnick (Shhhh, Rinse FM) & Original Cultures
Saturday July 11th 9pm- 2am, £4
LIFE, 2-4 Old Street, EC1V 9AA
For our second visit to the wonderful LIFE Bar in Old St we welcome Oliver Ho. Since 1996 Oliver Ho has been producing techno in its many forms with an unmatched expertise and eye for detail, from the tribal sounds of Meta to the funky house sounds of the Birdland records. His releases as Raudive on seminal labels like Klang Elektronik, Cocoon, Macro and We Are feature regularly in the sets of Dan Bell, Ricardo Villalobos, Craig Richards and Richie Hawtin. Along with his productions Oliver also DJs regularly at the Panoramar Bar in Berlin, Rex Club in Paris and Unit in Tokyo. He will be playing a special Lostbahnhof set featuring some of the dubstep, electro, bass and electronica gems that do not feature in his big room sets.
Joining Oliver Ho is Mr Beatnick. Sometime Rinse FM Saturday stalwart and mastermind behind Shhhh recordings, Mr Beatnick has been one of the most vocal plaudits behind the burgeoning beats scene which has produced artists like Bullion and Paul White. Listen to his own tracks though like I Know All The Bitches (Altered Vibes) and Diving For Pearls and you can hear the influence of whole generations of music from Mantronix to the 90's Bay Area scene via Photek, DJ Krush and Dilla. An unsung hero of many genres, and guaranteed to move the dancefloor. http://www.myspace.com/mrbeatnick
In the second room of LIFE bar, which doubles up as a shop selling all manner of Japanese goodies and gizmos during the day, we are teaming up with Shook magazine (www.shook.fm) and Original Cultures to host another evening of experimental electronics. Following on from their first event in Bologna, Italy, and ahead of a London event later this year, Original Cultures will be doing a one-off showcase as part of the Lostbahnof party at LIFE, in London, on the 11th of July. The showcase will feature musicians 2tall aka Om Unit (UK) and Tatsuki (JP) as well as art, design, photos and videos. It's a chance to come and hear some of the music and see some of the art created during the first Original Cultures event. http://www.originalcultures.org
