"Zedek should long have been hailed as one of the Voices of our time"
This is what Everett True wrote in Plan B when reviewing Liars and Prayers, the most recent album from the Thalia Zedek Band (released on Thrill Jockey in April 2008).
Throughout her career, her startling, nicotine-frayed voice has remained her most undeniable asset and a centerpiece to her work right from her early days in the Boston underground with Dangerous Birds and Uzi, to her breakthrough with Come, up to her most recent work, where she has been writing and recording under her own name.
For Liars and Prayers, Thalia's trademark voice and emotional songwriting had never been stronger and backed by a full, five-piece band including viola, piano and trumpet, it allowed her to create the most impressive work of her career giving critics and fans alike a reminder as to how she paved the way to the mainstream for other similar female artists, such as PJ Harvey.
An Adelaide performance on her Australian tour for 2004's Trust Those in Whom Without Some Touch of Madness album earned Thalia a spot on The Wire magazine’s Top 60 Greatest Shows Ever. With high praise like this Thrill Jockey are proud to announce the exciting live dates that Thalia will soon be performing with her band...
