Hello folks, there's an evening on Friday 4th July that should be cracking. Line up is:
My Sad Captains - www.myspace.com/mysadcaptains - as featured on DiS very recently, lovely english Pavement kind of sound
We used to make things - www.myspace.com/weusedtomakethings - retro-ish kinks/beatles/ben folds stuff
Arkansas Call - haven't got the web link as yet, but they play breaks and wotnot, live band
Jess & Rupert - folky style singing and guitar, lovely stuff. They're fairly impromptu, so no website for them
Plus a couple of other bands, DJs, and it's all for charity - in aid of the social night at the refugee council - www.refugeecouncil.org.uk - which is where a few of us volunteers put on a night where young and unaccompanied refugees (from all over, but at the moment our mainstay is Afghanistan and Iraq, with a few Eritreans, and then a more general mix) can come, practice english, meet other people, make friends, draw, play music, pool and other games, and generally take a bit of relaxing time out from the constant bureaucracy they have to go through everyday. Funds will enable us to carry on renting the space we do, go on day trips (eg to Brighton) and so on.
The event is at The Larrick, 2-4 Crouch Hill N4 4AU, 10 minutes from Finsbury Park or Harringay, or 2 minutes from Crouch Hill Station. It'll be £7 on the door, and should be a lot of fun.
Please ask any questions or whatever, and I'll give more details as and when they come.
