BIO: Adam Gnade (guh nah dee, which means "grace") is writing a new record called Trailerparks for the Try Harder label. He promises "country guitars, songs about girls, crickets, fireflies, cicadas, fuckin' summertime, rafts, cars, big breakdowns, mason jars, acorns, porches, and healing vibes." His debut novel, Hymn California, will be out in April on Dutchmoney Books. It's "fiction, as much as anything is fiction, and it's prose (all the lyrics come from prose too. Never poetry or spoken word.) It continues the stories of the characters from the songs and ties up plots left open by the records." He says, "I've tried to keep the books and songs separate in the past but it didn't work. The only way I could pull off doing both was to integrate them as much as possible, immerse the songs in the books and the books in the songs. One reviewer said that, in the process, 'it's created its own universe' but I don't know if that's true." His next tour will be this August in the US and, after that, Europe in the fall. "If you don't have good tour-mates, you're gonna have a shitty fucking time," he says. Recent tour-mates have included label-mates Jonquil, Youthmovies, Blood Red Shoes, and Blanket, along with friends House of Brothers and Eugene McGuinness. Adam enjoys sunshine, books about folk magic and the occult, Greyhound buses, MadDog 20/20, swimming in rivers, playing shows on staircases with his banjo, gin, pomegranate tea, Neutral Milk Hotel, the great state of Virginia, Saul Bellow, noise music, and country music.
