GERRY MITCHELL & LITTLE SPARTA
Gerry Mitchell and Little Sparta is an intensely emotive collaboration between Glaswegian poet Gerry Mitchell and London-based international experimentalists Little Sparta.
The band conjures up a musical backdrop for Mitchell’s prose, creating mini symphonies for Mitchell’s tales. While Little Sparta’s music can be lilting it can also be bombastic - while Mitchell’s words can be dour they can also be mesmeric. Gerry Mitchell and Little Sparta are renowned for stimulating live performances that manage to combine confrontation with contemplation – often within the same song.
JOHN & JEHN
John and Jehn the French duo moved from their hometowns; Poitiers and Angouleme respectively, to London last September and a series of live shows over the past couple of months has seen them talked about amongst industry as one of the most exciting new leftfield acts for 2007. Live, John and Jehn are equal parts charm and menace, which is portrayed in their performances.
Men Diamler is a young man, with a cult reputation in the S/W, who will not be tamed by the powers that be, reconfiguring a English/Welsh soul music through woozy operatics and wild and weird song/stories. Sweet and darkness have never sounded so close or so intense in such performer. He has supported Billy Childish, John Parish, Scout Niblett, Tony Allen, and Josephine Foster but despite his tender age he is a channel for old thyme ways - footstompin' blues, two string serenades, backwoods drinking hollers, horse play and pagan folk all get exorcised. Psychosis never sounded this good and people clap.
