"Is it still me that makes you sweat? Am I who you think about in bed?" Panic! singer Brendon Urie seductively whispers to begin the Las Vegas trio's third single from last year's smash hit album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. A bitter revenge song, 'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off' is excactly what you'd expect from Panic! - the tales of betrayal, the tinkling piano, the huge chorus, the whinging vocal and that all-important hook.
Panic! seem intent on sexing up a genre saturated with whinging, boring, unoriginal little boys. But when that chorus kicks in with the line "Let's get these teen hearts beating faster and faster", it's difficult to think Panic! have any intention other than excactly that. This has the sound of a song written exclusively for the teen market, something for jilted emo kids to yell at the top of their lungs at that damned ex. Still, at least Panic! do it with some level of originality compared to the likes of Fall Out Boy or Taking Back Sunday. And while this may be nothing we haven't heard from Panic! before, who can deny a hook as infectious as this?
It's a catchy, sexy song, reaching the high standards we've come to expect from Panic!, and I guarantee it'll be ringing round your head for weeks to come.
