They're right, y'know. Singles aren't supposed to open with thirty seconds of choir-alike harmonising, which is probably why the radio edit (urgh...) doesn't.
For the uninitiated, Field Music are the creative antecedents of the thriving North East scene, helping to spawn both The Futureheads and Maximo Park. Indeed, this track originates from a band containing 'Heads brothers Barry and David Hyde as well as Maximo's drummer Tom English.
Enough of the history lesson, though, because what you really need to know is that this sounds more like The Polyphonic Spree or The Beach Boys than anything remotely jerky. It's still got those trademark Mackem harmonies, but instead of throwing you around it'll tuck you into bed and wrap you up in cotton wool. Sublime.
