Listen to this, it seems unreal: metal can still possess soul, balls, vision and depth. Ridiculous? Maybe, or maybe it's the plain and simple truth. Contrary to popular belief, “Meaning” _is_ actually allowed to surf atop a gut-fucking ocean of waves and riffs, with no loss of integrity and power. Metal can bust ear drums as it breaks hearts. It possesses the ability to look forward with clarity and ambition, all the while bearing the flags of those who sculpted and created in times gone by.
Bands can come from the trenches and be of greater value to musical evolution than any and all of the money-churning sappy generals in the limelight...
And this is where we find Locus Of Control, taking on board what they want from their predecessors, and now creating their own individual niche. There’s a love of twists and grooves on this demo – akin to Helmet, Deftones, and mid-career Tool. However, what sets LoC apart from their peers is that they do not pilfer and plagiarise, they merely offer an acknowledging nod to their influences and get on with shaping something for themselves - something new and different.
A solemnity runs through the single, both melancholic and melodic, but with balls. You can hear the tapering of a murky sound until it sharpens to an arrow-head point. I find it hard to say more about why I like these tunes, but I get the feeling – no, I KNOW – that there’s something really special travelling through here; through the grit and through my speakers. Rock of the people, grassroots style. It's Earthy, organic, and most highly recommended.
