For a man who’s been branded a warped, God-fearing mentalist, Luke Steele obviously has his head screwed on when it's time to make a record.
Taken from last year’s eclectically excellent debut album ‘Lovers’, The Sleepy Jackson's latest single is an example of Steele’s ability to craft a catchy, trundling piece of guitar pop. George Harrison guitars, sunshine harmonies, and an unintentional nod to Badly Drawn Boy’s ‘Something To Talk About’ can all be heard throughout 'This Day''s jaunty four minutes. The song’s sing-along chorus is either destined for festivals up and down the country, or it will soon become the hook for the new Vodafone advertising campaign.
It doesn’t really go anywhere, but it’s well put together, infinitely listenable, and is backed by the equally pleasing 'Come to This'. Now, where’s that Lightning Seeds record…
