The Fire Theft – or ‘Ex-Sunny Day Real Estate’ as they shall forever be known – are very much a ‘proper’ band with ‘proper’ songs; big, post-grunge American rock with a sense of its own portentousness and grandiosity.
As bloated as four Texans in an SUV.
‘Chain’ sounds like a middle-aged Alice In Chains (thank God they all took drugs and died) or a porta-potty sitting Soundgarden. ‘Sinatra’, the single’s second track also featuring on the bands album, is actually a much better song, plucking the dark strings of the better side of bombastic rock. Kind of like Porno For Pyros. Unfortunately, like said band, it goes on and on, creeping over eight minutes, before it finally eats its own shit and dies. Shame.
