I seem to remember *AKO *being showered with praise about a year/ two years ago, with some pretty hefty support slots to boot. Only it kinda went quiet for a while and we all forgot about them. Until Now that is.
This is their come-back EP and it contains four tracks of pretty intense aggression that’s unsure of whether it’s punk rock or if they secretly want to be rockin’ the metallic post-hardcore route. _‘Never Wanted This’ _is a sterling effort at the latter, ploughing through some powerful riffwork, but then – and this seems to be a trend with these tracks - they head into a kind of thrashy, mosh-friendly arena.
They do appear to have the proficiency to expand further and if they were to slow things down a little and polish up those melodies AKO would have a very enticing sound on their hands. However, this EP is more a case of falling just short of the mark, the long backing screams masking their vocal melodies a little too much and in turn tarnishing what could well be some superb rock anthems.
That said, this does rock like a mother so I reckon with better production and more concise vocals we could look at promoting them to the cover-gracing big league in the not too distant future.
