Championed by The North’s ugliest ever band, The Music, Nylon Pylon thankfully look nothing like the Leeds fourpiece. They might have wanted to nab some of their urgency and inventive creativity though; because where The Music’s Zepped-up psychedelia is a fervent storm of post-Happy Mondays disco rock, ‘Foot In Mouth’ sounds like a pointlessly dull rehash of all of New Order’s bad points. It’s about as essential as the disease of (nearly) the same name.
Its pounding electronic beat, and stale, heard-it-before-on-that-last-Chicane-record synths are topped off by such wisdom as: ‘Cos I’m moving along and I’m keeping my beat/Something’s not right between my head and my feet.’ It’s anything but an ‘ear-popping slew of influences…’ as the press release states more like a chipped tombstone engraved with 'Indie-children, welcome to your new **Rain Band.'
