'Hold These Eyes' E.P is the debut release from this Essex trio and with two live tracks included, it's certainly an E.P to get them noticed. These girls can actually rock!
On first listen the title track didn't make too much impact, however after another play or two I do find myself humming along.
Singer, Alex, has a great rock girlie voice and with harmonies thrown in, it does actually make this into quite a decent track after all.
Second song, 'Allergy', is more rock than the first and 'Too Late' is an upbeat, jump around sort of song.
Then comes the highlight of the E.P, two songs recorded live Whisky-A-Go-Go in LA. The first of these, 'Mountain', is a fantastic song with Alex's voice flawless and full of emotion throughout. Slightly haunting backing vocals add to the feel of the song making you want to listen to it all over again.
Final track, 'Universal', is the one to show that these girls can 'walk the walk as well as talk the talk'. With loud guitars, crashing drums and more energetic(yet still tuneful) vocals making it a wonderful finale. And live too! It's almost enough to make me wish I were reviewing a live gig and not just a recording.
The Suffrajets are certainly not to be underestimated or overlooked for being a girl band. They can undoubtedly rock with the guys. And even though this E.P is unlikely to make a dent in the music world, its certainly a step in the right direction.
